  • how did you learn to play it? I would love to learn it myself.

  • Really intresting to hear this on a dulcimer. Lovely and mellow.

  • Lovely playing and lovely instrument. Who is the maker?

  • This is delightful.

  • Good version. I like your dulcimer playing.

  • Very good arrangement. The picks give it a nice ring. Thanks, Gary

  • This is beautiful!!

  • one hand looks pianistic in playing style forming the chords, while the other sometimes, to me, resembles the banjo picking sound and style !

I was looking actually for a piano solo of the song, but stumbled on this dulcimer, which has a pleasant sound, playing it.

Thanks for fun listen to a great ol' folk tune! I enjoyed it. Cheers! Tommy

  • very nice. orginal instrument..... what is it?

  • Fantastic for a South Paw player, Kudo's for you efficency and picking style anf the piece choosen for the video.

  • Beautiful rendition and I especially enjoyed the use of the middle string. I gather this was a DAD tuning. Nice use of the finger picks. I use a AAD tuning and leave the middle as a drone while I play melody and harmony on the high and the bass, It was intriguing to see the melody work on the middle.

  • O'Carolan is the greatest! tho i've never been able to find many recordings of his work :(

  • That was just beautiful...such a peaceful song...and so very well played! Thank you for sharing! = )

  • very nice

  • Left Handed too!

  • I would like to be just half this good. Thanks for posting.

  • WOW! almost anything that can be done to this tune, it sounds great. this is a completely unexpected rendition, quite lovely.

    thanks for posting.

  • I notice you play with fingerpicks. Very interesting! I'll do this on rare occasions because I also play banjo and the picks are familiar enough... But I always feel like the thumb pick is too rigid to strum in a way that sounds nice.

  • very nice !!!!

  • Maith thú!

Always nice to here it on instruments other than the traditional ones. Not nitpicking but the name is correctly "Si Beag Si Mor"

  • Beautiful music! I wish I could play the dulcimer like that.

  • you play very well! I would love to learn this peice on my dulcimer. how did you learn it? do you have tabs you could share with me?

  • your ancestors would be proud

  • This video is great for a right handed player, the view angle is as if it's in "my" lap, and I can clearly see the finger positions and strum patterns. Of course I will have to use different fingers to copy it, but at least I can see where they go. Very useful! Thanks! Oh, and I gave it 5 stars too!

  • That is really sweet bud....I enjoyed it. Makes me wish I had a dulcimer and then makes me wish I had a clue how to play one-LOL (guitar player myself) Excellent tone and playing.

  • That was really nice!! :} You play that well, follow the rhytm, even got my foot going 1,2,3-1,2,3. I must admit I had.. Shall we say, different, anticipations about your playing. I'm so glad I clicked the link though. You really impress me!!

  • Very nice! You got a nice picking formations going, and you are making a awesome sound!

  • Thank you for your comment! A regular, or right-handed, dulcimer has the bass string on the right, but a right-handed guitar has the TREBLE string on the right, and its bass string on the LEFT. So in short, left-handed picking on the dulcimer came naturally, since the instrument is 'made for it'. Also, I hope someday someone might be inspired to play the dulcimer, maybe someone who thought they never could, because they were a leftie, so will try and post more left-handed music soon.

  • @Dulcimerea I know it's been a long time since this comment, but I must thank you for it--it's exactly what I was looking for. I'm not left-handed, but I'm currently writing a story with a left-handed character that plays a dulcimer, so I was trying to figure out how that'd work out. Thank you!

  • Southpaw dulcimer; cool! This video proves to folks that it can be done and done really, really well. Beautiful playing!
