  • what is he saying?

  • Whoever serve Me—as I show Myself—

Constantly true, in full devotion fixed,

These hold I very holy. But who serve—

Worshipping Me The One, The Invisible,

    The Unrevealed, Unnamed, Unthinkable,

    Uttermost, All-pervading, Highest, Sure—

Who thus adore Me, mastering their sense,

Of one set mind to all, glad in all good,

These blessed souls come unto Me.

    - Bhagavad Gita, Ch: 12, Verse 5

  • I am stranger from north europe but when I start to chant it, in fact I love to do it, and it works totally for me. I love God Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi. It does touch me a lot to chant mantra. I just also can tell that it is quiet easy for me to remember the words and feel it. Why would it be different...

  • u need to put a loop on this so it gos on for 10 mins. i find it so beautiful and relaxing!

  • gaņānām tvā gaņapati(gu)m havāmahe kavim kavīnām upamashravastamam

jyeşhţharājam brahmaņām brahmaņaspata ā naĥ shŗņvan ūtibhiĥ sīda sādanam

  • To n e 1 this may concern, I have absolutlely no background with Hinduism and i myself am recently a renounced christian, but i have ot at all been searching for a new god to worship, but I feel as though im being drawn to Ganesh, no one has spoken to me of him or anything but i just cant get his name out of my head, as if he is always lingering in the back of my mind in theses recent months but still i know nothing. i wish to seek the truth and id love even just a nudge in the right direction

  • Thanks for uploading the video. However, I would like to point out that this mantra is not the first line of Rig and Yajur Veda. I agree that its commonly chanted as an invocatory verse before commencing Veda Parayanam. However, the first verse of Rig veda is Agni Suktam (Agnimeele Purohitam Yagnasya Deva Rutvijam) and Yajur Veda (Taittiriya Shakha) begins as Ishetvojetva

  • Ganesha is a relatively recent deity when compared to old-timers like Indra and Agni. Initially(during the vedic age) people believed in a group of beings called 'vinayakas' which were tutelary deities also capable of posing obstacles. These beings concerned themselves with placing and removing hindrances in people's lives. In due course of history, these beings(initially 4 in number) were coalesced together to form a single deity called 'vighn-vinayak'...

  • hi can some one please give me the lyric's to this divine mantra.cheers

  • Does anyone know the origins of this recording? Is it from a CD? I would like to correctly learn these vedic chants and as a novice in Sanskrit (and a westerner), I am not always able to tell the authentic chants from the more commercial ones. Thank you. Namaste

  • @JohnGarbar

Check this site for authentic vedic chants, the full 4 vedas are available to purchase on cd(around £51) or mp3 file. Hare Krsna .

  • @ANDROID697 What site would that be? I think you forgot to list it. Thanks.

  • @JohnGarbar And how is the sanskrit going?

  • the gods wont be up set if were learning and get wrong will they im new at hindu and from learning russian to this its a lot to digest.

  • what are the words of this mantra anyone please? please let it be RIGHT DONT WANT TO UPSET LORD GANESHA thank you

  • om ganaanamm thva ganapathimm havamahe kavim kaveenamupamashravasthavam | Jyeshtarajam brahmanam brahmanaspatha aa naa | Shrunvannuthibhissidha saadhanam | Shri mahagananapathaye namaha ||

  • If I chant for money or wordly possesions, I miss the point. If I chant to be more in tune with my higher self, I guess is more appropiate. By being more in tune with higher frequencies, I will adjust to the level that I have to be and my wants and needs will be balanced by the act of being in tune. I can say that since I chant the Gayatri mantra my relationships bettered so much. I am amazed and grateful!!!!! It was a miracle. I guess I am worthy of chanting this mantra.

  • Is there any benefit just to listen to it? Please explain.

  • I believe the sound of the vedas are more important than the meaning.

In the ancient vedic times everything worked on sound technology. They had weapons that were created or induced by chanting certain mantras.

But everyone cannot chant these mantras and produce the desired results. You have to be pure and higly evolved to use these mantras. If some stranger starts chanting these mantras, there will be no result but rather there could be detrimental results instead.

  • @vedas88 What kind of detrimental results? Could I get cancer if I mispronounce the chant?

  • @Nomiss9 Please, just listen attentively. This won't do any harm. I've listened many times.

  • @Jhoomus Well, I like listening to the Vedas and I think they're beautiful, but I don't believe they can kill or save people.

  • @vedas88 The answer lies in numbers.

  • @ENAIRAMA1 Also a great sample for a psytrance track

  • powerful!!!!

  • Jay ganesh

  • can anyone write this whole mantra here

  • Here you go:

Om gananam tva ganapatigm hava-mahe, kavimkavinamu-pamashravastamam|. jyeshta rajam bramhanam bramhana spata anashrunvannuti bhisida sadanam

  • God.....to difficult to pronounce!!!

    : (

    anyway thanks a lot!!

    Namaste

  • May Lord Ganesha bless you, and forgive all ur sins. As you dont understand what u r saying and u r under the spell of hatred and ignorance. May God in whichever form u believe in Him bless u.

  • Jai Ganesh!

  • Brilliant - just listening to it coaxes positive feelings from within you : just accepting that there is a supreme being, whom you unconditionally surrender to, and seek the backing of - even for 22 seconds removes your worries, makes you energetic, and happy.

And when you hear the common folklore surrounding this ingenious god, you can't help but smile :D

  • ओम जय शिव

    शिव जाने गणेश जाना पार्वती जाना

  • शिव शंकर है महान

  • where can i find this mantra in writing?

  • Google for sanskrit documents list. Select Veda. Select rudrahprashnah. The first mantra is this one.

  • Thank you

  • I know only very little as I am not of your culture but my heart as well as of my 3 boys all have found inner spirit in Ganesha. Thank you for the mantra.

  • bravo - this is a top quality chant!!!!!

  • Why r u posting the transliteration of the mantra repeatedly?? A reaction to my anti-posting stance??!!! Just Kidding. Anyways, for me, the first step is to get Brahmin kids to learn vedas if possible from a teacher on a monthly contract. Yes, like ur father said, Dakshina expectance is sinful. I am an idealist in religious issues. but see which is the lesser of 2 evils---Dakshina and proper teaching 2 brahmin kids or free spreading of vedas for all??? Here is where i am confused. ur solution???

  • I keep posting the english text so people can chant it :)

i think praising Shri Ganesh would be a good thing....don't you?

let me tell you a little about myself. i am 17 and i had my Upanayana Sanskar when i was 14. i was authorized to learn the Vedas and i am doing so on my own. i do not have an official Guru other than Brahma Vishnu aur Mahesh.

There are few that i consider knowledgeable enough to teach me, all they teach nowadays is how many suparis you have and which prayer goes with what

  • btw... this is rkrc :P

  • I saw your post and found it interesting. If I may ask which shakha of vedas are you learning ? At any rate, you should try and find a guru. There are a good no. extremely learned people who have a lot to give provided somebody is willing to take.

  • Well, you had me at the numbers game. only a 1000 or maybe less. Who knows? However, it is my sincere belief that till the last Brahmin chants gayatri, Dharma would last. But since Sanathana Dharma is eternal, it is said in puranas that at the moment when the last good Brahmin has perished, Kalki would be born in a hidden Brahmana family (God's Backup Plan!) and continue the Dharma.

  • Dharma will never fall, it has been and always will be. it may fall in certain regions like earth but it is always eternal. you are right...Kalki avatar we all know the story... but it isn't god's back up plan although i know you just meant it jokingly :P what is happening today is supposed to happen. in all creations there is Satya, treta, Dvapara and Kali yugs. it's just the way it goes...

  • can i say this mantra normal al een person every day? And have you maybe the translation of this.

    Ok Ram Ram.

  • Jai Shri Ganesh ji ki!

Friends, please speak up against the current anti-Hindu Congress/UPA Indian govt - check out my favorites for the truth.

    Jai Hind!

  • Look at the population, there are so few brahmins. Why the design? You do not need a hundred teachers for hundred students right?? Same. If Brahmins like us do the duty properly and spread the meaning of the vedas around, humanity wud prosper. You said we should read the vedas for ourselves. But according to all Dharma sastras, this is the special duty of Brahmanas. Others are supposed to learn from us. Om.

  • yes IF the brahmins spread the knowledge of the

Vedas.....are we? very few of us. perhaps 1000 of the millions of brahmins are doing their duty correctly.

  • Oh yes. thks for understanding me. Just one more thing. When i said that god woud judge, it was bcoz simple logic tells us that we have a CHOICE to recite vedas properly. If u want to mess there deliberately knowing that vedas are God's breath, then u will be judged. (Brihadaranyaka Upanishad---Nihsvasitam Rig Veda Yajurvedo Sama Atharvangirasa itihasa purana...") Btw i am happy to see that Brahmins like u r taking great interest in Sanathana Dharma. This is what we need for Dharma to grow.

  • However, it seems that there is a common misconception that this is the first line of vedas. No, it occurs in the 23rd hymn of 2nd book in Rig Veda. We seem to have an obsession with beginnings...LOL...If anything, these lines are the BEGINNING of the 23rd hymn of the 2nd book. Ganapati is the link between Ganesha and Brahmanaspati/Brihaspati. What is the link?? Both are representations of wisdom.

  • beginning? there is no beginning and no end of the Vedas. i know very little about the Vedas but i do know that the Vedas are Eternal, always have been and always will be. just like Brahman

  • Anantah vai Vedaha---Vedas are eternal. Obviously, i did not mean 'beginning' in a literal sense. Right now, we only have a fraction of the veda. And there IS a first chapterlast chapter to it. I used 'beginning' for convenient speech not that i meant Vedas had an origin. Vedas are God's Breath according to the upanishads. God is eternal. So, his breath must also be eternal. The Veda is therefore eternal. The great thing abt vedas is that it is apaurusheya. Not even authored by God.

  • i know what you meant... i was just wanted to point that out :P

  • If I may, I wish to make a small correction to the info that you have posted.

The first lines of Rig and Yajur Vedas are not in praise of Lord Ganesh.

    Rig veda goes like this:

agním iiLe puróhitaM yajñásya devám Rtvíjam

    hótaaraM ratnadhaátamam

I Laud Agni, the chosen Priest, God, minister of sacrifice,

    The hotar, lavishest of wealth.

  • This mantra is a part of what is known as Ganapati sukta in Rigveda. However, the Yajurvedis chant it to for ganapati dhyanam. There is different swaras used in Rigvedic & Yajurvedic chants.

  • I am getting fed up. Stop posting Vedic Mantras online. You Might Be Liberal but in actual reality, Vedic Mantras are not intended for everyone's hearing. Respect Vedas. Respect Tradition.

  • dont you think is a much better way for hindus to understand their great religion better...i believe is more necessary nowadays to embrace the technology to get our religion out there. Not to convert anyone but to keep it alive, especially knowing that the islamic and christian nuts are always trying to convert...

  • Yes I do and I sincerely respect ur desire for our religion to reach out. May God Bless You. Sanathana Dharma would never perish. There are lot of Non-Vedic Mantras available. So why the Vedas? Is it not a hypocrisy to make Vedas public when the Vedas themselves tell that they should not be divulged to all.

  • that was said millions of years ago in Satya Yug. Patram Pushpam Phalam Thoyam, yes god will bless you for even saying "Ram" or offer one drop of water. Although God is satisfied, we are not. the youth is challenged by things worse than Rakshas. they are challenged by verses of the Quran and Bible that say "those you don't abide, kill them" and "wherever you find the idol worshipper, kill them as they stand" etc. i would like to reply to those verses with peace from the Vedas and so would they

  • I am a Brahmin and i have heard many times that people with the wrong intellect will interpret the Vedas instead of reading them. but i have come to find out, that today we are in Kali Yug. yes we Brahmins must know the Vedas but we cannot limit it to us alone anymore. it is time for the people to start reading them. Posting them online is the Best thing we can do, however the pronunciation will be distorted. does god judge the way you speak or what you speak? JAI SHRI RAM

  • We have the Bhagavad Gita, fellow Brahmin friend. By the way, one of the things mentioned in Vishnu and Kalki Puranas is that Sudras and Women will do dharmas not meant for them and thus incur the wrath of God in Kali Yuga. Does God Judge??? Yes He Does. Sincereity alone is not the criteria. Life is not that simple....May God Bless You All with the mental strength to accept things as they are.

  • Gita: yavan artha udapane

sarvatah samplutodake tavan sarvesu vedesu brahmanasya vijanatah

-"All purposes that are served by the small pond can at once be served by the great reservoirs of water. Similarly, all the purposes of the Vedas can be served to one who knows the purpose behind them."

...so when you say that not all people should read the Vedas if this verse explains why then i understand why. but that doesn't mean we shouldn't find the meaning behind the Vedas, then we can read them :)

  • more or less, u got me. Even the most orthodox Sankaracharyas whom I follow say that there is no bar on women/sudras learning vedic truths or its meanings. Only the recitation of vedic mantras is controversial. I dont know whetha u know tamil but in tamil devotional literature, sudras, women and even illiterates have written hymns replete with vedic/vedantic frangrance without any vedic schooling. Ultimately, as gita says, u dont need vedas to know the truths in it. It is effort that counts.

  • the only way we can find the purpose of the Vedas is to read them for OURSELVES. don't always listen to others, go back to the root of the tree to see where the fruit comes from.

  • But taking ur metaphor seriously, that is the work of some botanists who want to dig up the soil. If farmers, engineers, doctors and everyone start to dig to see the bottom point of the root, the land wud become barren. Only some have the right to do the digging. And only some need to. So, only Brahmins need to dig the truths for humanity. Is it not a Brahmin's duty to teach dharma? Satapatha Brahmana says one of the duties of a Brahmana is to perfect the world.

  • How many Brahmins do you know that actually dig for humanity? the Brahmins i know today, only few are true. Many i know are in for the Dakshana. What you say is hypocrisy. what about those that don't have the True Brahmins to teach them? There are few Brahmins and you know that most of them are corrupt today. My father told me that if i ever become a pundit like him, that i should never do it for any material wealth or even spiritual wealth, i must do it to serve others, without expectations.

  • Yes ur father is absolutely right. It is hard for us to be like him. I am practical only in worldly affairs. When it comes to Vedas, I am an idealist. So I am simply stating the rules and ideals to be adhered to. Is this what u mean by my hypocrisy. What we as Brahmins can do is to learn vedas to our maximum ability and pass our knowledge to all we intend. And it is said that Bhagavad Gita, Itihasas and Puranas were created to compensate for those not having access to vedas. Sorry 4 any offense.

  • you have not offended me :]

i am satisfied with your knowledge. You are correct, those who do not have access to the Vedas have other various scriptures to read. but those who do have access to the Vedas should find the meaning behind them as the Gita says. Brahmins today as described by Kali Yug are not Brahmins of Treta Yug and Satya Yug etc. It expresses how the Brahmins of today will be totally corrupt and there will be very few that are not. Everyone has the right to find the meaning.

  • Warmongers666 - OK you are an idealist, so here is my question to you. Read Yagyavalkya-Maitrayi samwad in Brihadaranyako-upanishad. Maitrayi who is a woman and wife of Yagyavalkya not only knows veda but counters Yagyavalkya's arguments with her own. Tell me what does that prove. BTW, Brihadaaranyako upanishad is an aranyaka & upanishad of the shukla yajurveda.

  • Let me give you more proofs, this one is from Srauta sutra for the Agnisthoma yaga. In Agnishthoma there are specific vedic chants for both the Yajamana & the Yajamana patni (wife). This is as per Apasthabha. So, tell me what does that prove..how can a rishi such as Apasthambha direct that woman will chant vedic verses.

  • sir i salute you for your vedic wisdom. May you make futhrer progress and gain more glories.

  • Sudhir911 - Thanks for your compliments. The knowledge conveyed in veda goes beyond the petty divisions of man, woman, animals, caste, race etc. When they classify, there is a purpose to that classification, and such classifications do exist in every society although they are named differently.

  • Warmongers666 - You are wrong, vedic mantras are for the entire creation and hence for everybody. If you show me one verse in any of the vedas, which says that the vedic mantras are not for everybody to hear (I said hear - I didn't say chant), then I will accept your premise but if you can't (and I am pretty sure you can't), you will stop posting this thought of yours which is nothing but a figment of your imagination.

  • @warmongers666 why? God is for everyone who is willing to praise him you idiot, i really hate people like you who says that hinduism is not for everyone, ur so full of yourself and if you don't accept the fact that people like me are interested in this stuff and wanna learn more and be accepted then you shouldn't listen to vedic mantras in the first place!

  • @JamacianLove777 If one of evil life turn in his thought

Straightly to Me, count him amidst the good; He hath the highway chosen; he shall grow; Righteous ere long; he shall attain that peace which changes not. Be certain none can perish, trusting Me! O Prithâs Son! whoso will turn to Me, Though they be born from the very womb of Sin,

Woman or man; sprung of the Vaisya caste; lowly Sudra, all Plant foot upon the highest path; how then the Brahmans, royal saints?

    - Gita, Ch 9, v 116.
