when instlling the floats back in with the carb upside down like that, should the needle have enough spring pressure to where the float kind of "hovers" to where you can press on the floats a little and let go and the kind of spring back up?
is there anyway to fix a broken post that the float pin goes through to hold the floats in? One is broken in half which makes the pin wiggle out, any way to rig it to fix it? don't really have 200 dollars to buy a new one
helpp i lost my fuel air screw so i got a new one. i dont know how far in i need it. the instructions said to adjsut till you get the best reaction... i cant tell the difference so i dont know if im runnign to lean or rich. please reply
hey man then i turn on the gas lever thing gas just pours out of the hoses. would this be the float? and the hoses are in rough shape some have holes and cracks and one is broken so would it be the hoses then?
is it possible that there is air leak inside the carburetor??? what can be wrong with my carburetor? i checked and there is no air leak elsewhere..thanks
im using a keihin pwk35mm air striker on my carburetor..when i set the idle for the engine for it to idle but after a while when i started the engine again i have to set the idle again because the engine idles higher on its own...what is the problem?
My carb pours out gas too, i'm pretty sure i lost the spring that goes above the float when i was blowing it out with some air. Would that be the needle assembly?
Hi i just bought a second hand dirt bike, good runner but at full throttle it coughs and misses beats, it wont idle, ever, hard to start now and when starting or running in pours fuel out of the overflow pipe, so much so i ran out of gas! what do you think could be rong?
I have also changed both front and rear sprockets.
Original Sprocket Setup: 15/51
Now: 14/46
I changed my rear first which helped but struggled on hills so I changed the front one down to compensate.
Ive noticed aswell that if I go 3/4 - full throttle in 1st gear and then up through the gears it seems ok, its when i give it throttle in any gear (except first) that is below 7000RPM.
My plug is slightly black but I think thats cause i run it on choke for a few mins cause of cold weather.
I recently fitted a new exhaust to my bike and noticed that if I gave it more than 3/4 throttle it would start to splutter (miss a beat) So I fitted a bigger Main jet (100) Stock was (95) And it still did it so I went down to a 97.5 and it still does it. Could the needle need adjusting?
My bike is also fitted with one of those Exhaust gas things that recycle some gas back into the Fuel/air mix aswell as another hose going back into my airbox.
I cleaned out my dirt bikes carb with carb cleaner, jets, bowl and all. The problem I had before cleaning it was that my throttle is stuck full open even at idle. I am thinking it could be the throttle slide somehow, maybe it hasnt gone down far enough down through the jet, would this cause a lot of fuel to come up through the main jet giving me a full throttle idle?
Throttle cable fraying is no longer the issue, throttle cable was replaced a few days ago in hopes that would fix the problem, but problem persists. How can I tell if the slide is fully seated?
@living4fire Take the top back off your carb. You will see that you have the slide in the wrong way round. On the inside of the carb (where you put there slide in) there is a notch, that goes into the groove on the side of the slide. If these are not ligned up the slide does not go all the way down and nothing you do with the throttle will make it go down. Take the top of the carb off and put the slide back in the right way around. I guarantee you that is the problem.
I did exactly this and the it's spilling gas out the over flow. so annoying, didn't have this problem before.
markusx2468 3 weeks ago
@markusx2468 The float is to high or the needle is not seating properly.

@mxkx48 I do not recall how much pressure there is on the needle. If in doubt do a level test before putting the carb in service.

Hello,
this looks very easy, but sometimes you run into carburetors. All of these jets are sometimes stuck.
What would you suggest that one do when running into parts on the outside and the inside of a carburetor that are in fact stuck
memberson 8 months ago
@memberson I would be lost i guess because in all the years i worked on cycle carbs i never ran into any parts i could easily remove.
richpin06a 8 months ago
@memberson
a product call mouse milk works really really well at helping to remove stuck or corroded parts.

@drunksmokingjurkk Is the air screw on the outside of the carb your taking about
richpin06a 1 year ago
if you use a piece of clear hose pipe directly to the drain pipe with the screw open the fuel will travel up the hose to the level the float is at

DenMushiDen 1 year ago
@DenMushiDen possibly a air leak somewhere might be one explanation
richpin06a 1 year ago
@DenMushiDen a video I watched before says you should set the idle when the engine has had a chance to warm up.
the video I watched is titled "how motorcycle and atv carbs work" ( watch?v=4azg3hIl9oI )
At about 8:00-9:15 into his video he explains adjusting the idle
Hope this helps

what happens if the float level is not up to that line? how would you go about adjusting it so its at the right spot
espltdm251playa 1 year ago
@espltdm251playa The engine would starve or flood if the height is not right. You bend the tang that the needle is on to adjust the float.

Put the slide in the carb with it off the bike, then you can look & see if it's seating, also make sure your idle adjust screw isn't in to far.
