  • You're right . . . just a good ground-breaking folkie sound that doesn't tread on anybody. P E A C E ain't such a bad thing to RE-embrace . . . all this fighing and judging and hassling . . . Can't fight when you're making love . . . . PEACE- OUT

  • couldn't help but notice how positive the comment board is. usually every comment board on youtube has all these political arguments and musical feuds. what a great band

  • I know that everyone has their own taste but I find it very very hard to understand why anyone would dislike this performance. Each member of the band was on form and it has to be one of the most coolest performances ever. Thanks for posting.

for the visuals ...yes that DRUMMER...if anyone around me doesn't "get it"..then I don't get them....

  • Sublime!

  • excellent music and great rhythm section

  • ……. Simply beyond awesomeness ~ (•8-D

  • The Coolest Cats on the Block

  • Cool song, the female singer reminds me of Marsha from Spaced :P

  • When in this day and age will another group with such musical integrity come along.....simply musical bliss here

  • I think Bert's laid back attitude and Jacqui trying not to be nervous comes across in the eye contact. There's an exciting edge to this performance.

  • 0.23 I'd give my all.

  • Thank you Jaqui, you and your voice make me feel alive.

  • I'm digging the stand up bass.

  • simply wonderful,,thanks so much for this. Just wish I would have been there.

  • there is no greater guitarist than bert jansch. except maybe john renbourne.....but i much prefer the feel of bert. this is the perfect combination of british folk and jazz. and like the person above me said, that drummer is fucking SICK.

  • Oehlalaaaaa

    Thanx a lot!!

  • Eleven people have had amature brain surgery performed on them!

  • Killer tune!!

  • In love all over again. Bert Jansch and Jacqui McShee's harmonies go deep into the heart of music. This group, godammit man they are something!

  • this is so fucking great!!!

  • Bert Jansch, John Renbourne, Jaccquie McShee et al .... nothing could be finer, recorded or live

  • "Goin' Home" was a big theme in this era, comments?

  • @PaulJD2006

going home has been a big theme in every era in history. its just that this era had some very talented people and was well documented.

  • @PaulJD2006 Most likely due to everyone leaving from Haight Ashbury in the late 60's?!

  • to know what this amazing song is about listen to berts intro on the sweet child album cd extra tracks!! AMAZING SONG!!!

  • John Renbourn, Danny Thompson, Bert Janch! Simply amazing!

  • for edd x

  • totally love this band! all time faves

  • I keep playing this song. It's so contained, but it ~really~ swings. The band is not particularily smiling and trying to connect or be accepted by the audience, the audience is already so tuned into them. The band is performing and grooving their art, and hardly moving. The band is going on a 'journey' and the audience is very focused and goes with them. The looks between Bert and Jacqui.... wow.

  • yeeeeeeah

  • Fucking hell what is it about the sixties? such good music ,ive just found this band today and i think there really really good

  • fucking amazing!

  • I heard tis band a week ago and they are already one of ( if not ) my favourite bands ever

all the members just seem to fit perfectly

  • If you love music you love pentangle.

  • Doesn't Jansch walk the tightrope between coolest guy on the planet and nerd. What a guitar player. I met him at a gig 3 years ago and he's incredibly shy. He can be seen as rude, but I don't care; he's a legend

  • Sweet and wild drum, all at once. That swings like hell.

Jacqui with her lovely voice and master Bert Jansch. One of the world's best bands.

  • Why do I get the feeling of Phoebe from Friends in the coffee shop?

  • I like these guys more and more with every song I hear by them!

    They seem very underrated.

  • Isn't "sitting behind the front wheel"?

I love the front whip, though

  • Presumably it's wheel - as Bert introduces the song on 'Sweet Child' with "imagine you're sitting in car..."

  • @Johnny6666 On the album version it's clearly wheel

  • @DonalLynchyou Yeah, it's clearly wheel. The 'Sweet Child' live intro makes it clear it's about driving in a car...

  • Sitting behind the front whip, get my woman beside me too, hey baby we're goin' home, hey baby we're goin' home. I don't mind the drizzling rain, inside is warm and dry, hey baby we're going home, hey baby we're going home...

  • Hello,

    Great song, I love Pentangle

I'm French and I search the lyrics of this song.

My English is limited, besides writing I use a translator,

    Can anyone help me?

    Thank you very much

    ludo

  • 0:24 -it's Jemain from flight of the conchords!

  • FTW! i noticed that too

  • Yeah, people don't seem to be as cute at 66 as they were in their 20s. Imagine that.

  • This is so dope!

  • That music is really enjoyable with cannabis! Haschish, wine and Pentangle are sure a pretty good recipe for a good supper with friends.

  • Sounds epic!

  • Love this band, love this song !!! Fantastic live. Cheers !!

  • This is so Awsome!

  • Yes yes yes juste amazing :]]]]

    thanks!

  • This song is absolutely amazing, too bad they didn't record a proper version of it, would've been one of the all time best.

  • Wonderful, simply wonderful. This song can swing your mood in the right direction. Thanks for posting.

  • Wonderfull!!! What a sweet voice she had!

  • at 0:25 you can see Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords in the background

  • time travelin' bastard

  • Drummer => Terry Cox. When the band broke up he quit music and opened a pub on Majorca...I never visited, stupid sod I am.

  • fucking loving that drummer.

  • @icallmybabystp the drummer is a fucking crack!! with all those double things he mades

  • Sexy!

    Feel their communication.

  • and see how she is in the center and everybody has to look up to her

  • From which album this song?

  • Their first, credited to 'The Pentangle'

  • woooow...

  • Better than studio version, much better without the cheap synths for a kick off, sounds more naturally like the song was intended

  • Agreed.

The studio version is freaking lame with sifi effects. It's too bad the live album I have is a low quality recording.

I love how Renbourns acoustic sounds like a sitar. This song rules all.

  • You should check out the "Time Has Come" box set. There is a live disc in there that has either this version, or a VERY similar one in great quality.

  • I wish I was there.

  • Are they alive now?........

  • Oh yes they are

  • Great!

  • thank fuck for that

  • reformed, apparently

  • ....you're thinking of a McChicken sandwich

  • This tunes is a Treasure!!!

  • Bert Jansch is a true legend, love most of his stuff.

  • hot...

  • Lots of talk about "goosebumps" here. So true... thing is, as well as the amazing collective sound, you can get 'em focusing on any individual member. Incredibly special group.

  • As good as it gets....

  • bert looks pissed!

  • he always looks pissed!

  • ha! he's a scorpio

  • this does indeed rock, this rocks big time all round quality and love the John Renbourn solo that really rocks too

  • This rocks!

  • Where does her voice come from? OMG!

And imagine the music scene in Great Britain on or about the time this video was made. The Beatles at their height, Led Zeppelin waiting in the wings and a young Reginald Kenneth Dwight writing songs with Bernie Taupin. Unbelievable time.

Great quality video. Thank you for posting.

  • The beatnick behind Jansch looks stoned out of his mind

  • OMG! everytime i listen to Pentangle i get goosebumps. They are so amazing! i just cant beleive how great this sounds! i love every bit of it

  • thank you for posting this video.

  • Beauty itself! Nothing else to say.

  • Looks like David Carradine on guitar!

  • LOVE IT!

Been listening to this constantly the last few weeks.

  • I've been listening to this the last few weeks as well, I love that guitar solo

  • Whatsit McThing always looks so bored. Great singer though.

  • Jacqui McShee, and yeah for all her talent I don't know if she had all that much stage presence.

  • It's nerves! Remember, this group was newly formed at the time of this clip, and McShee has stated that she was terribly nervous at the beginning of the group. She had none of the laconic stage presence of a Jansch (or even a Renbourn), and she had to very quickly adapt to television (as the Pentangle made many, many TV appearances at the beginning of, and indeed throughout, their career).

  • Very nice guitar and standup bass, I kinda missed Pentangle first time although I have some Jansch CD's. one memory that stays with me is that Jacqui McShee always looks very spaced!

  • I've always loved Pentangle. Still have LPs of Pentangle, Renbourn, jansch and Graham. This brings back many memories. (at least the memories I can remember)

  • Brilliant. Hearing of Davy Graham for the first time today, the day he died, it set of a wander around the folkier side of Youtube for me finding Pentangle. I think I'll head home via the music shop! :)

  • I have no idea how I've missed these guys all these years.

    Thank you again, youtube.

  • It's exactly what i was thinking :D

  • Makes me wish I was right there right then. Thanks for sharing,Gary In Louisville

  • Best video on YouTube!

  • This is the music my dad always used to play whenever we went camping or went past time.

It has a real sentimental value.

  • It's great camping music

  • lol, these are the original "beatniks". The kids today hanging in their trendy coffee shops only wish.

  • Well, actually the real Beats didn't even like folk music, and they weren't into long hair either. Peter, Paul and Mary sort of blurred the lines by affecting a Beat appearance, but the true Beats were usually clean-cut (with goatees at times) and tended toward bebop or "cool" jazz a la Miles Davis. And the old Beats were not fans of the emerging hippie movement.

  • Thanks for correcting me, I really didn't know what the hell I was saying, because I missed the beatnik movement. I was born in 1967. I am not clueless though, my music collection is outright wicked! lol, It spans decades and decades,

  • This really is great great music.

    Soak it up.

  • Just reading Colin Harper's brilliant bio of Bert called "Dazzling Stranger". Buy it or steal it!! Some of the stories about Bert's early days in Auld Reekie are hysterical.

  • What a performance!!!!!!!!

  • Nice one. I'll be seeing them in Manchester on Wednesday and then I'm driving up to the Toon on Friday to see them. It'll be good stuff.

  • TWICE IN ONE WEEK!?!?

    i'm green with envy.

  • Alas, they did not perform Travelling Song at the royal festival hall last week, The crowd were screaming for it! Other than that, it was a magical evening in front of a packed house!

  • Great stuff man... I hope they play this number.. And if you can, try and get your camera out and film it for us pentangle fans who can't get there:)))) You might be one of the lucky ones who will here them play Sweet Child...:))

  • english folk???....berty boy is a Scot!!! ;)

  • Great. I like the english folk very much. I love the BJansch voice and his playing, and the J renbourn solo is perfect! The only semifault to me is the drums are too loud, but they sound well, maybe another type of drumsticks (escobillas) though I can't understand the utility of common drum beat for this music... THANKS

  • What a fantastic band. Love Bert's leer in this. And John Renbourn is one of the great guitarists, the guy just never scuffs a note. And the song is just a bad ass English folk song, which I think we never hear enough of.

  • I don't know them! great music, tank you!

  • vidi Jacquie McShee nel 1995 al Bourbon Street a Padova . Fu meravigliosa.

  • No bands these days are this finely in tune with themselves, or their instruments. It's so beautiful to see that something such as this has survived long enough to be immortalized on the internet.

  • This is such a beautiful, beautiful song!

  • NICE SONG

  • Sensational woof woof :-)

  • great music

  • I keep returning to play this. Can't put my finger on why. Think it might be Bert's vocal, the way it lazily lilts from one note to the next. Great isn't it.

  • Its the rhythm section for me.

  • I love how they keep looking at each other!

  • Sexy!!

  • Life is.
