  • Hey, if you're still wondering, all you have to do to fix it is take the cartridge apart and change the battery. I had it happen to my copy of perfect dark. It's easy to fix. Just use a pair of pliers if you don't have the right type of screwdriver.

  • It's maybe the backup battery memory, or something else. I had the same problem, tried everything that I could, and end up throwing it away. There was nothing I could do. So I just bought another one on ebay and I'm expecting it to arrive in mail around Friday or Monday. If you're no longer using the N64 expansion pak, you can give it to me.

  • Try replacing the battery backup.

Open the cart with a gamebit and take out the coin cell and replace with a new one. Some games act crazy when the battery backup goes, most show blank files but some claim a full memory.

Give it a shot, you might need to de-solder the contact to get the coin cell out though so be careful.

  • heyyyy im having that EXACT same problem.. its been years since i played this game and im not able to play it considering this problem I NEED SERIOUS HELP ALSO

  • Oye como grabaste este video?

    que camara usaste?

o que hiciste para grabar este video?

    necesito saberlo porfabor

  • Here in this case, you must use the Controller Pak to save your game in the perfect dark, I tell you from personal experience, because I spend the same friend and I had to buy a controller pak

  • the only thing i can tell you, if you own a game shark and place in perfect dark on top of it... when you turn on the console, it will tell you that it doesn't read the expander pak. just a little heads up if you decide to look for one.

  • it actually reads the expansion pak because I own one, the problem is that the internal memory is not working for an unknown reason

  • In fact, is because you need the Expansion Pak to make it work properly, you can play a few multiplayer modes without it.

  • is it required to use a Memory pak to play this game?

  • I KNOW THE ANSWER!

Every N64 cartridge has a batery save, and your batery ran out. You need to replace it.

  • Actually... it seems that they don't, a guy some time ago had the same problem, got the weird thing to open the cartridge and realized that there is no battery inside the cartridge, I didn't get any pictures of that, but if that would be true, then all of my games would be with the same problem...

  • Is it your first time playing Perfect Dark or have you already played it and then deleted your profiles?

Anyway, try to get a Controller Pak and create your profile there, then it may let you delete or create the profiles in the cartridge.

By the way, Perfect Dark on Project64 sucks. It is much much much much much better on the N64.

  • I'll try getting some stones (N64 Controller Paks hahaha, they look like stones, really).

Yeah, I've seen Perfect Dark working on the console and compared to the missing effects in Project 64, sometimes it's even unplayable, maybe one day a plugin will arise that will be capable of rendering everything, but by now, I'm staying with playing on the console.

  • i dont know why your game is doing that

    but i think i know a solution

get another 64 game that you can access the pack from it ok?

then go the the space in that and theres probably hidden files that you cant get to because perfect dark is taking up to much space

if that doesnt work then get a new copy

there like 5 buck at a pawnshop or like 10 on ebay

  • Here in chile is not that easy, but I think that the only two options I have is getting a controller pak (for people who doesn't know, that's like a "memory card") or getting a new cartridge, I still think is easier and cheapier to get a Controller Pak.

  • hey if you ever fixed this problem PLEASE contact me asap.. im having the same problem you are.

  • either the rom is bad or the emulator i suggest you download a new Perfect dark plus project64 1.6 plus a better video plugin

  • It's not on an emulator, is on a real Nintendo 64.

  • then i suggest eighter break it or just download the game with project64 dude download that with the correct plugins and download perfect dark and done? like WTF your playing N64! Dude theres an emulator why in god-forskaen hell do you even still own thoes old shits i got every n64 game supernintendo game and nintendo game works just fine even mods versions to so again

    1. download Project64 find plugins should come with

    2. download perfect dark can be done off of ARES

    3. Load rom done

  • First reason of why I don't use an emulator and I have the console: I want to

Second reason: There's no emulator capable of rendering a Nintendo 64 game in a PERFECT way

Third reason: There's nothing like playing with the apropiate controller, I mean, the Nintendo 64 controller.

Fourth reason: I like having the console itself instead of trying to think I have it, I am a passionate old-school gamer. There are people who doesn't believe me I still have a Nintendo, but I do.

  • Hmmm, thats messed up. Did or does this happen to any other games you play??

  • Just that one, all the other games work ok.

  • Well the only help I can give you is to get another one, iv'e never seen this before thats seriously f'd up.

  • as did the video to record the game on TV? grabrar you used for the video?

  • i found this online, good luck. there is a way to fix it. The trick is to turn the N64 on and off 20-30 times in a row really fast with Perfect Dark in it and hope that it clears all your save data. If successful, you will be able to save like normal. You can avoid having to wipe your save data by backing up your data onto a memory card, or only using the memory card to save since this glitch only affects the game cartridge. The solution will not harm your N64 or game cartridge.

  • I've tried that so many times that my hand aches some times... it doesn't work, but I think I'll try it once again...

  • mine is doing something creepy too....i have controller pack saves, it reads them when i boot up with start. but my file never shows up when i go to select my agent, game pack only

  • anyone can respond to my comment please i have a n64 controller pak that is curupted i tried the hold the star button thing it does work but then when i take off the game then when i put it in then it curupts again anyone know how to fix this problem please comment me back

  • It's easy to solve this. If you got a Gameshark, a Memory Pak and another Perfect Dark that works, you can save the game memory of the good cartridge into the Memory Pak (it'll save something like PDPD.z), and then recover this file to the bad cartridge.

  • weird. that has never happened to me.

dude, a fast fix would be to get on ebay and buy a new perfect dark. PD IS WORTH IT!!!

maybe it got made with limited memory. factory defect. did it ever work before?

  • Yeah, I got this one after getting Goldeneye and Goldeneye works perfectly, but one day this one freezed and after reseting the console this problem happened.

  • oh... then who knows...

    good luck with that!!!

  • iv heard of this problem before. i have a similar problem, i start my game and it automaticly switches to the multiplayer menu. it wont let me quit, access the main menu or anything :(

  • forgive me for pointing out the obvious, but it wont let you access the main menu without an expansion pack. if that aint ur prob? ur screwed lol

  • I own an expansion pak... I recorded the video so you can see I have one, without the expansion pak you can access the menu but can't do anything there, and also the background just are some colors instead of the Joana's eyes looking at the screen.

  • mine says my memory card needs 2 be repaired but when it asks me if i want 2 repair it, it says its is unabled 2 be repaired..i bought it used sometime last year cus i lost my original one and i felt like playing and old game...my memory card worked at first then i didn't play it 4 a while now it doesn't... i have an expansion pack 2

  • On My Old Perfect Dark It Had The Same Thing But Nate Got Me It For A Gift...

  • same thing happened to my perfect dark, but it happened when me and my sister were playing the game and one of us accidently hit the game while it was on in the N64. so it froze turned it back on and my shit was erased and showing the same as the video. couldnt fix it nor find a way on the internet. so i bought a memory card and thats the only way i can play. bullshit huh?

  • ya thats the problem maybe u should exchange the expansion pack cause it helps you save too

  • hey dude sorry to break it to you but its your expansion pack PLUS your game cartrage i had it happen to me but i fixed it i just bought another game not to be breaking balls or anything but did u buy it used like game force or somthing? ask for a refund because it didnt work i had it not work for my turok 2 seeds of evil plus perfect dark so i hope that was useful to you

  • I don't think so... All the other games I have that I play with the Expansion Pak works normally, no problems with saved stuff and all of that...

  • ok, i think i know wat the prob is. either, u don't have a memory card, or it's jsut liek that and has problems with itself. But i do this in some games, somewhere like at the title screen hold Z+ random buttons and it should bring up all ur memory of all the games saved. IF the prob is rlly that u don't have enough room for the mem.

  • I heard its a Cartridge glitch that you can turn it off and on and it should erase I have the same problem too...=[

  • Yeah, I heard that too but I tried it a lot of times but it didn't worked... the only thing left to try is to change the battery, but I don't have the screwdriver to open it...

  • I might get the screw driver today or tommorow I bought because of this reason...

and Ill see if its just the battery...

  • It has no battery I checked...

  • WTF!?!?!? Damnit! So what the hell is the problem!?!? Did you checked the whole cart man? Sorry but I can't believe that shit!

  • yea man! i have pics and everything i was pissed too idk what im gonna do I dont waqnt to return the game either...

  • Dammit! you MUST send me those pics! Still can't believe it...

  • I have a problem with the game too but in my case I can't save in the game pak only in the controller pak . the game pak is not full

  • if u r using a controller save pack then it might b full. so u need to clear some space 4 the game. there is a automatic save onto the cartridge but like the other person said, if thats not working then... it died. so u need 2 save on a controller pack

  • I'm guessing the battery died? Pop in a mem pak, don't think you'll be doing much with game pak.

  • SubDrag? I heard a lot of you! In goldeneye stuff! Cool to see you commenting here... I was thinking the same thing about the battery... so it seems that I will have to get a controller pak.

Pretty weird that this just happened to this cart and not the others that I have.

  • 5. The game says "Game Pak Full" and won't let me save or delete anything! Why?

This is a common problem for Perfect Dark. The cause is not known, but there is a way to fix it. The trick is to turn the N64 on and off 20-30 times in a row really fast with Perfect Dark in it and hope that it clears all your save data. If successful, you will be able to save like normal. You can avoid having to wipe your save data by backing up your data onto a memory card, or only using the memory card to save

  • since this glitch only affects the game cartridge. The solution will not harm your N64 or game cartridge.

I googled this search: perfect dark "game pak full"

  • Yeah, I read that... appears on a forum... no results with that

  • Too bad that there is no one you can send it to for repair/replacement. Since it's been years, Rare and Nintendo no longer would be willing to fix or replace the cartridge. I don't know how you bought it, but you would probably not be able to return it to the seller. That forum response did not solve it. So... another alternative would be to buy the cartridge all over again, de-facto paying for a mistake that was not in any way your fault. :/

  • The cartridge is not mine, a friend borrowed it to me to see if I was able to repair it... but I definitely say that I won't be able to return it, anyway there must be a way to erase all the data with a gameshark, MUST be a way...

  • Ok people... nobody has posted yet and I don't think somebody will so doesn't matter... I were looking around and seems that this happened with lots of Perfect Darks around the world... Well... in a page appears that turning on-off the N64 20-30 times really fast deletes the memory and fixes the problem (It's like the same thing that appears in the back part of the N64 carts). Also in another page was said that using a controller pak and deleting the data "releases" the game pak memory...
