  • Grande Cab e.... ......piccola, piccola grande Betty!

  • Wow...thanks!

This is quite an eerie, bizarre, and mesmerizing piece of animated artwork!

  • Look! its the moon walk...a really slow moonwalk...

He has Michael Jackson beat by 50 years

  • luv da song it shud be a regret dat ut wuz banned dere nothing wrong wit de cartoonz dey jus wanna hate on BB is de best ov em all lotz ov love

  • Regarding this classic work of art, Minnie The Moocher:

    1. There's nothing remotely racist about this.

    2. It was banned because of drug references.

    3. Betty is a flapper girl, which explains her dress.

    4. Betty is Jewish, as was her family.

    5. Calloway was popping and locking way before most were, and he was the best at it.

  • one of the best cartoons of all times and I've seen a hell of a lot.......

  • Man I saw this when I was a kid and it scared the crap out of me *giggles*

and now I simple adore it :D

  • the first videoclip of the story of music....wonderfulllllll

  • @Sardonicus1313 What's with the negative votes?! That was a compliment!

  • This was released on 11 March, 1932 to be exact, just about 6 months before my grandma was born. The song itself was made the previous year (she died 5 years ago). Hard to believe this is going on 80 years old. It would have been less than 55 years old the last time I saw it in the early 80's and happened to be thinking about it the other day. Funny how time flies.

  • yay for your grandma...

  • its a great video...

  • ahahah 5:03-5:20 is hilarious

  • Notice that Betty Boop is a Biracial Cartoon, She is Black and Causian. Just Please Look closely. Look at her hair and her body shape.

  • She was originally drawn as a dog... yes, a dog! She morphed over time into a curvacious flapper but still retained some of her dog-like features.

  • Actually, didn't you notice that both her parents were German? They were trying to get her to eat nasty hotsen pepper and saurbraten?

  • Jewish, actually.

Betty is apparently a 16-year-old cutie-pie Jewish dish" and the voice actress actually looked a little like her too--SHE was Jewish too. :)

This whole song is about drugs. Fuckin' LOVE it! :D Never would've guessed as a kid.

I love the way Cab dances. He's like...the Michael Jackson of the late 20s and 30s. He's kinda BREAKDANCING, if you watch it close. :)

  • They sure sound German, though. When the dad said and it sounded like "UND" lol

Maybe a Nazi referrence, since her parents are like a pair of Nazi jerks? lol

Jews and Nazis and drugs, oh MY! lol

And a dancing walrus ghost. :D Classic.

  • "hosten pepper"? I think you mean "hossenfeffer" or "hasenpfeffer".

  • what year did this cartoon come out.

  • 1932

  • there are several pokes at the hayes code which ruled what could and could not be shown during that era. really quite surreal, and truly a forerunner of the music video

  • Like what, specifically?

  • Dude...that...ruled. I remember this, as a child! Back in the 80's, my mom used to record old cartoons for me, like Popeye and Betty Boop, Looney Toons, and others. My other fav is Snow-White Betty Boop, and Who Killed Cock Robin! Calloway's dance is awesome.

  • grrreat!tnx for this!!

  • Hi, I like your video and have rated it as awesome. Please check out my vid clip of some rare jazz musicians and dance band Leaders cigarette cards, issued in 1936. They include Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington and many more.

  • I watched it as a kid in the 50's, but with the three stooges, popeye, and all the rest we knew what was for real and what was silly fun.

  • I'm going to teach myself that dance.

This cartoon would definitely be banned from any and all networks except Adult Swim.

  • And people claim that rap music is bad. I don't know many songs in rap that feature opium dreams.

  • Well, they've got the irresponsible sex and the violence and the disrespect towards women, and actually they talk rather a lot about drugs and alcohol....

  • My point was the good ol' days are an illusion. This song kicks ass!

  • Is this the kind of shit that they embedded in our heads as children? This is pretty damn freaky - walrus ghosts hanting trees. Death skulls in the background and people being executed. This would freak someone out on acid.

  • Unless you were born before 1932, then no. You head was probably corrupted by talking mutated turtles and robots that turned into trucks and stuff.

  • LOL. Touche.

  • That song's about drug use anyway.

  • Something to ponder: Cab Calloway was the Wallrus, not John Lennon, not Paul McCartney; Cab Calloway was the Wallrus.

  • This is the best recording of "Minnie The Moocher" that I've heard Cab Calloway and his Orchestra do. Thanks for sharing!

  • Dont matter its a great video...

  • Eternal.

Can you post a copy with better audio?

  • Sorry, mine's just not very good.
