Uh, there are some pretty brutal bands that smoke weed in metal. Some of the coolest bands are at least influenced by the works of Alister Crowley (who was a notorious user of opiates and psychedelics) and have probably at one point either dropped acid or done shrooms. But probably not a whole lot of Scandinavian bands, mostly for the reason that you can't really grow weed or shrooms up near the Arctic Circle. Besides, this whole "Drugs are bad, drugs are awesome" debate is silly.

Freezing riffs! Hail all Immortal people , I don't like advertising, and i'm not promising , but I think some of you should totally check out an extreme metal band Wintersun (Finland). Little bit influences from black metal, very melodic like Immortal, and very grim and cold! Maybe for best example, type "Wintersun Beautiful Death" in search, and be patient for the song, thus it gets better and better and colder all the time. Hope I made somebody happy !

hmm i have some words to say about dimmu borgir. they really know how to write music. professionals. they really have good conceptions and content in their lyrics. deep. they were one of my favourites. but now, comparing to immortal - somehow they're much less. immortal has a true feeling which dimmu borgir has not. absolutely not. and i feel dimmu borgir a bit arrogant and show off. they act they are the top of everything while many of their songs are worked out well. i prefer immortal.

Yeah. Black Metal originated in Scandanavia, especially in Norway. Immortal, along with a lot of other Black Metal bands, are from Norway, so that's the connection. Not to mention Winter is a lot more creative than Summer when it comes to lyrics.
