  • By the way, the reference to the sustaining mechanism was in a letter to his father.

  • We read of sustaining mechanism operated by means of knee paddles. In fact Mozart refers to how easy it was to operate the knee paddles on a Stein fortepiano. So if he bothered to make reference to it, it must be that he approved of, and made use of, such a device in his own playing..

  • i listen to this while i study.

  • The sound is far more clear on 2 fortepiano than 2 piano. Excellent performance.

  • Awesome awesome AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess they're fortepianos right?... they don't sound quite like harpsichords. I am jealous... I wish I had one... :)

  • Ya, I really don't like how they hardly ever play on period instruments, it would seem, to me, that if the composer wrote it for period instruments that are tuned (a half step lower?), then it should be played for the period tuning, and not just that, the instrumentation can be just as important, the sound.

  • @NihilTico they're not easily found

  • Mozart sounds great on period instruments. On a Steinway, not so much.

  • @Ladarzak Oh, I'm not so sure of that. I admit prejudice because I'm at an all-Steinway school and we have some heavenly instruments, and I am working on a Mozart sonata. Now, if you want to say that you prefer the fortepiano sound to the Steinway, I won't argue that, - "de gustibus non disputandum," but I think Mozart can still sound awesome on a modern piano.

  • @AgnesRegina It's not about liking or disliking the sound of fortepiano or piano, it's just : Mozart's music must be played on fortepiano, Chopin's on piano and Bach's on harpsichord or clavicorde.

Playing Mozart on a piano is like playing Chopin on Korg synthesizer

  • @Sakurazuka1999

    I totally agree! :D

  • @Sakurazuka1999

Well, if fortepianos and harpsichords were not as few and far between as they are, I (and no doubt many other pianists!) would be glad to perform each composer on the instrument of his period. Since that is not feasible we do our best on the instrument we have - and unashamedly love it!

  • @Ladarzak I totally disagree. It's fantastic to hear Mozart on fortepiano, but the modern piano's allowed us to reveal others wonders of the Mozart's music. Those opinion like "Mozart must be played on fortepiano" is a bit simple, and sounds rather like the will of establishing "something right / something wrong" than the an opinion led by a passion for this music.

  • Played wonderful. I have heard and seen the Duo in Herne (WDR festival: Tage Alter Musik) some years ago with a programm about Mozarts sister Nannerl - also refreshing our soul!

And its really better to listen this piece on period instruments

  • very good'

  • really love the piece, this is so amazing and fun.

  • Amazing to hear this performed on a period instrument.

  • Yup, it's very fun to play. I've played it with my teacher, with her playing on a electronic keyboard.

  • Love this piece! An all-time favourite! Thanks for uploading.
