  • Thank you very much for such an important "know" for free.

  • The "ee" sound is written like this [i]. Where did you get your vocal pedagogy knowledge?

  • Your voice isn't supposed to drop as soon as your done singing a note. Horrid for your vocal chords.

  • @angelsandskylights True; He could've done vocal slides, or vocal fry, or shown it off and ended it with a hell of a lot of vibratto...Anything to color that "drop" after the note produced....But the main point of the video was so you can hear the "E" note, with no coloring and no style...Because he knows not everyone can do all of that just yet. His mistake was his breathing, which probably caused it; I found that it was too intense...But this wasn't a lecture on breathing either lool.

  • Listen to the big collapse when he stops producing sound, pretty sure that's bad.

  • @sameoldscam True; He could've done vocal slides, or vocal fry, or shown it off and ended it with a hell of a lot of vibratto...Anything to color that "drop" after the note produced....But the main point of the video was so you can hear the "E" note, with no coloring and no style...Because he knows not everyone can do all of that just yet.

  • Are there any songs that Brett sings? I wanna hear his real voice. :)

  • @JimmothyDean Well if you wanna hear his real voice search on youtube XD for Brett Manning I can't say, he's really something, or better put he's amazing. but everybody is diffrent, so hope that helped.

  • Brett is a friggin' genius. I got his Singing Success program a few weeks ago and it genuinely did help me gain MORE than an octave in my range and I have been singing for 20 years.

  • "take a little eh and add a little hoot"

What about using a Ha to bridge into high I's?

    Is that, completely, wrong?

  • You know who's awesome?

YOU Brett Manning....YOU'RE awesome, that's who!

  • can someone tell this bitch below me that it's okay, he doesn't have to try so hard, i'm sure someone somewhere might already think he isn't a used douche.

  • can someone tell this fag that he's to old to wear an emo haircut?

  • @biiiiirdman lol, ok when u go to his age, u can look old and old fashioned. Some people like to be fashionable in any age.

Where are these people are coming from?

    lol

  • Great tip but I must correct the American ignorance (joking) of Mr. Manning. The Italian "mi mi mi" sounds like "me me me" because in Italian the letter "I" is pronounced as the American "E", not unlike many other languages.

  • Ok, we get that you can sing Brett, you're a freaking vocal genius...But where are the video's for people who want to LEARN HOW to bridge/connect and get full voice?

  • (see my previous comment about his throat)

  • This isnt Brett on a good day.....everything would be balanced for him on a good day....

  • Speech-tone singing is a harmful approach.

  • @Benny209 is it really? can you explain why? not disagreeing, honestly curious.

  • @Benny209 That's very elaborate. Haha

  • Keep a close eye on his throat as he demonstrates. At one point his neck itself seems to start to wobble. That's a sign of sub-glottic pressure. Your cords should be the ones vibrating, not your larynx to the point of showing visibly.

  • @Benny209 I think thats the effect of the vibrato.

  • @unclesamfatg It's an improper vibrato/inferior tone.

To produce the best tones, keep in mind that:

    * Repeated glottal attacks can damage vocal cords

    * Improper posture can lead to vocal cords not closing properly and allowing air to escape

    * A larynx that is pushed upward will result in a nasal sounding tone

    * Tense muscles around the larynx will cause the vocal cords to function improperly, leading to a poor tone

    * Singers who sound breathy have too much air flowing through the vocal cords

  • @Benny209 Benny is actually correct.

  • thanks man that helped a whole lot

  • It's called vowel modification, and it's incredibly basic classical technique.

People pay bucketloads of cash for this shit and it's been around since Garcia began publishing vocal pedagogy in the early 1800's.

  • this was made on my birthday in 2008!

  • quality and thank you

  • SO helpful. Thx.

  • i have the same problem... i simply CAN'T sing E... lol

  • @MatSwim94 me to my friend haha, i physically can NOT do it

  • that was the only part of the star spangled banner that i couldnt get

  • get it! nice teaching sir...^_^ ..its so easy to understand because of the simple, short and full of information video lesson.

  • hi brett...i thank you so much for this great tip.....you have this very easy way of teaching.....i really learned a lot from this video...GODBLESS YOU, BRETT!!!

  • You are my hero!!!!!

  • that was an F...

  • @kylejcaldwellatgmail He was explaining how to sing the letter E in a song like his example Free not the note.

  • Thanks Brett!! you rule!!

  • he reminds me of that guy from the movie, school of rock looool

  • greaaaat tip :)

  • Look at him trying to have emo hair. Only thing worse than emo hair, is trying to have it.

  • desde Argentina, sos un GROXXO, me ayuda mucho tu metodo y videos. GRACIAS!!!!!!

  • he looks awfully gross!

  • your a legend man!

  • lol miss piggy

  • is anyone having this problem?

i can sing good either really high or low

    but not in the middle?

    like normal lmao

    i feel so unlucky

    any tips?

  • @Korizmatic i have this too!

    help??

  • ME TOO!!! T___T

    help?

  • @Korizmatic Me too -_-

  • @Korizmatic

lip roll the middle range of a song and then get off the lip roll on a vowel in all the big phrases.

then just sing vowels. then add consonants and see what kinda voice comes out of the lip roll position.

  • I keep on trying to become famous but I don't know any producers

  • @Justinbgirl1994 they find you

  • @Justinbgirl1994 Lol post a video on youtube. It seems almost everyone that does that gets signed. :)

  • why brett manning is not a professional singer if he trains the best singers ever!!!!???? he is just a proffesional vocal coach but i think he should be a singer too lol.

  • it depenpends on marketing situation at the media fields. it is beter way to get money for him.

NOT every good director is good actor

  • i dont do any exercises as far as I know, i just started playing the guitar.. And than naturally started to sing a lot.. ALOT! and god better and better

  • yepp, you can:) I couldnt at all, but now its pretty darn good

  • The impressions he does in his videos and CDs are hilarious. This guy's great.

  • he appears in every singing success dvd? did he made the programm cuz then im so buying it!!!

  • Brett Manning is the creator of Singing Success, both the company and the program. Not all the materials available from the websites are made directly by him, nor are all the video lessons, but he's the face behind the flame.

  • @androcci perhpas you know this alreasdy and sorry 9 months late but Yeah he appears in the Sining Success porgram its really awsome it works for me:9 I'm sure you will like it as well try it out if you haven't :)

  • awesome vocal tip! brett manning rocks...no questions asked.

  • yo u live!

  • Some of the best singers cheat toward the "a" vowel sound and there isn't anything wrong with that. Once you start cramming your chest voice that far up in your register your nasal resonance starts to take over and everything begins to sound the same.

  • That's why Brett teaches you to develop your mix voice. You shouldn't be trying to cram up in your chest voice. All singing is, is vowels, so if you cheat an "ee" sound to an "ah" or "aa" you're doing a huge disservice to your voice. Nasal singing is just plain difficult to listen to.

  • Oh...I agree that you need to develop a mixed voice, not saying that...just saying that great singers like Pavarotti cheated toward the "ah" vowel to make it easier to sing way up there.

  • I love Brett's charisma. Awesome free tip too

  • the E is hard coz some ppl loses chords relaxation to make it if u do it naturally good for u but best way to get is ( technically ) is this way

  • his voice hurts my musical sensibilities.

  • what?

  • omg, this was for free :D !

  • Great at explaining this topic. Thanks! I don't think I have an "E" problem but I will definitley explore this. The "bridge" concept is neat.

  • Thank you so much for this. I had seen it before I ran into this problem and I didn't really get the point at first. Now I have a song where several notes are head on the "ee" sound and I listen to my recordings and they just make me cringe. I can't wait to try this! Thanks again :)

  • nooo. actually, he sound good.

  • IH does not sound good. Sorry. It sounds like like a stupid boy band.

My vocal teacher tells me to form my mouth the way I would when you pronounce things with "eu" like in French, "je peu" And when you form your mouth like that and sing "e" it comes out very distinct and clear and your able to hold the note.

  • ha ;DD he's cool

  • holy shit this guy is good. I want him as a personal trainer.

  • is there anything on here about "oo's" i find that harder than "e"

  • Lol thats the easyest for me :P

  • I also found in studying voice in college that modifying the vowel to the German "u" with an umlaut helps find the place for an "e" as well. It is a mixed vowel that combines the shape of an "e" in the mouth and the shape of an "ooh" with the lips. This helps keep the tongue down and forward rather than arching it at the back of the tongue and raising the larynx. Just food for thought.

  • if you're singing correctly and doing it properly then you can.

  • Great!! Rosanne Barr comes to mind when she sang that Star Spangled Banner. She did exactly what Brett said..Fray. That's because E is a closed vowel. You do need a little more space for it than an open vowel such as Ah. It's not easy because you can do just the opposite and cover/modify too much. It's all about the balance.

  • thnx for this

  • OH MY GOD this video helped me a lot!! :)

  • is that all an e is i can reach much higher than that im pretty sure he wasnt singin high enough

  • hehe... he wasn't trying to sing on the E note.. he was demonstrating how to sing the sound EEEEE. Oh and there are some pretty low eeees too. I bet you can't sing higher than his actual range

  • @lillyraelene Brett can't actually sing well, he's just a really good teacher, there are *hard to find* videos on youtube of him singing live and its a train wreck.. None the less his leader teaches stevie wonder. And thats enuff credit for me :)

  • @KMatteKudasaiC he can sing well he just has a horrible sounding voice

  • Oh my! This really works! Thanks so much!

    I love Brett Manning's tips. :)

  • it really works!

  • awsume!!!

  • keep the hair looks great!

  • Brett please, change your hair! that style is terrible!

  • but can you sing the ee vowel through all 18 of your octaves?

  • there aren't 18 octaves to begin with.

  • I think it was a joke.

  • I hope it was.

  • i wish he was my vocal teacher

he is just the kind of vocal teacher that i am looking for

but his rates are too expensive for me =(

  • love it lol

  • Brett Manning is awesome!!!

  • he might wanna try sitting up when he sings so he can hold in more air and it sounds so much better. :)

  • Oh, don't worry, he doesn't need to sit up. Because he's using his chest to press the air it wouldn't make a lick of difference whether he was standing up straight or curled up in a ball. Maybe if he were using his lower abdomen and back for breath support it would help. But what do I know?

  • Is that sarcasm I'm sensing?

  • hes on myspace?

    way to teach people! :D

  • LMAO.

  • how does he doe the Ih at 1:29 ?

    thanx

  • i didn't realize how much the mother tongue differences can influence the singing!! "E" as native english speaking people pronounce it is like the easiest vowel to sing for a serbian/italian native speaker.. pure and simple and kinda "up" in your throat! i got much more trouble with singing U!!!

Anyway Brett your exercises are amazing!!

i guess depends on how your vocal apparatus has been used/trained for years (just by speaking a certain language)!

    anyway b

  • not just serbian and italian even in arabic. and ya i notced that in different languages there are different difficulties singing different things!

  • 1:59-2:02 -> "cool whip" lol

  • lmfaoo!

  • LOL he's hilarious especially at 0:42, so random when he says "free" hahahaha

  • LOLLL

  • Comment removed

  • ? weirdo.

  • Most helpful, thanks very much. How about the "oo" vowel, as in "boot"? Also a difficult vowel to produce in the middle and upper registers. Can anyone help?

  • Yes! "oo" is tougher than "E" I think E is the easiest of them all.

  • you're awesome Brett! :D

  • He coaches many a talent.

  • is he the one hayley of paramore hired to teach her vocals?

  • yup

  • lol this dudes awesome at doing impressions aswel haha if u listen to singing for success cds in the first one its funny

  • im trying all of ur exercises and im still sounding like crap,...

  • wow man thanks so much! youre the king!

  • well it acutally varies dude from singer to singer cause there are altos with a fairly large upper register and sopranos with a fairly large lower register. A rough expectation to my opinion should be thoug for a trained classical alto(Being C4 the middle C) from C3 to E5. For Mezzo Soprano: From G3 to A#5. For Soprano From B3 to C6. These are NOT general and i repeat THEY VARY among singers.

  • the land of the frey... lol

  • it's all about the flexible vowels, baby!

  • Gah, thank you so very much!

  • amazing, thank you (:

  • wow this is soooo good its really helping

  • Hey.. CooL!! Thanks a Lot.. By the way, i Love to sing but i don't reaLLy have a voice coach.. I know there are a LOt of coaches but how do I know that the voice coach I got is perfect or good?? And wiLL not change my voice.. Need heLp..

  • gonna tell you right now. This is pretty much bel canto. you pronounce the "e" on "ih" to help you get high notes do a scale, but put both of your thumbs in your mouth, on both sides of your teeth, and sing a scale. And just use your diaphragm, the notes get easier.

  • the two hardest vowels for me seem to be "ee" and "oo". Any tips on how to make "oo" not such a difficult vowel.

  • If you keep the 'oo' at the back of your throat (not tight, but just not forward) then when you get to your passagio/break/bridge, then you should be able to move smoothly into head voice. If the 'oo' is at the front of your mouth it takes a lot of effort to close it up into head-voice and not sound shouty.

  • yes! many of the techniques we teach are bel canto in origin. Especially vowel modification. There's a video on here where Pavarotti is talking about bel canto. He talks about the cover at the F and that pretty much sums it up right there.

  • turning the "oo" to just "o" like in the word home?

  • Many ppl think Pav is wrong about the 'cover at F'. There's no reason why you should suddenly make the sound a lot darker. Florez does not cover, for instance, and his range is seamless throughout.

  • thanks brett, that was a really really useful video! the "ee" has been causing me some irritation but i guess i might be able to overcome that cuz of this tip!

also i'd like to say that SS has absolutely the best vocal lessons one can find! thanks a ton for making such an invaluable course!..:)cheers!
