Sorry we did not shoot a film this year 2011, we had a lot going on, but next season we will have a bunch of HD cams looking forward to it, going to be sick.
@MeursaultBandini Pretty much especially in March/April. In the winter months it is normally very windy and extremely cold especially, hiking up the headwall. The avalanche danger also is much higher when there is more fresh snow. Actually looking at that video, again, I've seen it much more crowded than that, sometimes there is literally a line of people hiking up the headwall.
To be safe you have to be able to snowboard like an Advanced / Expert snowboarder. Intermediates can take on the challenge depending on what level Intermediate they are. If you are going to drop the headwall you should be able to snowboard a drop close to 45 degrees or so. So steep as you turn your board your ass will touch the snow behind you. Very, very, very, steep. The climb up to the bottom of the bowl us around 3 hours, then you must climb straight up the headwall and over it.
im 10 and i hiked tuckermans! took me 2 hours and 54 minutes it would off been only 2 hours if it was not for the rocky rocky rocky headwalll!!!!!!!!!
Looks like you guys had a blast out there. How come the state does not install a Gondola or something and charge $10 a pop? I am a Tahoe skiier, so excuse my ignorance, but do you ever get pow days out there to where you could actually jump off some of those cliffs?
@Andisoss Hell yea mang! There is so much pow to stuff your face with on mt. washington. A lot of people make spring trips though because of avalanche danger. Winter time with skins you can access sooooo much. A gondola would be el terrible. We keep it for the people who want it! Earn your turns
People would be upset, it is all about the climb into back country that makes people hit it. The rush from the climb up and over the headwall is something to remember. Yes they get deep snow early season and it is sick, just beware of avalanches.
When you learn how to ski about same time that you learn how to walk. Then you ski about 50 days a season as a kid, and 70 days as an adult. Over time, learning how to ski all over again, would be like most learning how to walk again. Plus nothing wrong with kicking it old school.
@northeastsurfing You're right. I wasn't knocking it, looks like a great day out there. My brother recently got back into skiing and has the same old style. As long as everyone's enjoying themselves.
i like your ideals. its not about doing, its about the spiritual journey. very cool. i agree with that completely, and have a similar philosophy with hiking and everything i do.... ill be at tuckermans next week and im so pumped.
duxski17, The climb is about 3 hours, then 45 mintues through and up over the headwall. This of course depends on how good of shape you are in. We do it a little faster. The headwall climbing can be hard on the legs for most people.
i want to do that this spring so bad. im a great skier and could easily ski that but is the hike really that difficult and do you think that i could do it? im 15 and i also have a house in nh so i have alot of experience skiing and hiking as well.
We have a house in NH and ME, so we spend lots of time there. My cousin and I grew up with a second home in Maine, so growing up in the mountains was key for us. We were able to start skiing at age 5, and climbing mountains a little after that. We have been doing tucks for 25 years total, and I love it. I started surfing about 20 years ago on a short stay in Cali, these sports have become our life. As a writer I try to film our sports from a art point a view, more spiritual then hardcore.
Tuckerman Ravine is not about doing it, saying can or you can not, it is not about the hype, or where you are from. It means something different to each and everyone of us. Our videos are not hardcore, they are about our spiritual adventures, and our search for self answers. Most of all, to find a peace away from self absorbed, shallow, angry, haters, who are lost within their own boundaries of life. Who I pray someday will see the world like we do, and feel our peace.
I did this last year! Im 16 now, and boy was that a hike LOL. we made it to the top of the ravine and the summit was in sight so we made the trek. Skied down all the way from the top, all the way down "The Lip" and then down the road/trail. It was a beautiful day also- no clouds, no wind and probably 60 degrees
If you like this video, click on the (northeastsurfing) user name and check out more of our videos, from Tuckerman Ravine, Skiing Sunday River or Vail, CO, to Surfing and windsurfing.
Yes of course we climbed up to the top of the Tuckerman Ravine Bowl. The idea is to reach a feeling of self accomplishment, and to put our skills to the test. After the four hour or so climb to the top of the snow fields above the bowl, with a 50 pound pack, over the 55 degree wall, you receive a feeling that most will never feel, mostly because they can't, and we can. The skiing down the headwall, well that is simply next level, and there is no words. Thanks for your comments. Rate our video!
Hey guys, killer video, we met as you guys got down to Pinkham on Friday and told us to check the video out, I am glad I have such a good memory. Saturday wasn't as clear, but it was still one hell of a trip, keep it up.
You guys almost made the video. I had to make cuts to fit it on youtube. Had a shot of my cousin talking to you guys. We hope to go May 1. Thanks for the comments, make sure you check out our other tuck videos too.

sireduardo420 11 months ago
@sireduardo420 no but down by the shelter there is an area for tents. You cant tent above the tree line.

That guy skiing from 5:55 - 6:20... Clearly he was frozen in a glacier since 1984 and thawed. We must teach him of the advancements in ski technique.
