What gives you the right to fight a foreclosure? You've had plenty of time to pay off that mortgage. You didn't pay you bills on time ant this is what happens. I hope you learned your lesson. Sir you have no right to your home because you made a fair deal and didn't live up to it. What did you think would happen? I'm tired of people like you using the mortgage crisis as an excuse for not paying their bills on time. You had plenty of time to pay off 30k before you lost your job. PAY YOUR BILLS!

Google search how to stop illegal foreclosures. You need some help and look into see if you can get any federal assistance to stop the foreclosure. The balance should have come down over 20 years, unless you got more money and used it for something else.

I hope David gets a loan mod before the LA homeowners in this series. He seems to be the only one who's learned anything from the foreclosure experience. "I'll never borrow another cent".

Send them a hardship letter and let them know you want a loan modification.  Obama said there is help out there, take him up on that offer. Good luck.
