Well, Judy Davis was spectacular in 'Husbands & Wives'. She had many highlights in the film and her character was so well-developed. Joan Plowright was quite good, but her character's arc was kind of limited. Miranda Richardson was pretty amazing. Vanessa Redgrave managed to elevate her character in very short screentime. And Tomei was hilarious and enjoyable. But, come on. She won because she was the only American nominated that year. IMO: Davis>Redgrave>Richardson>Tome­i>Plowright

Wow! Obviously the right script helps, and I may be biased, but that award was definitely meant for Judy Davis. That is acting!

Davis' performance literally has everything: anger, happiness, humor, satire, terror, frustration, etc. I don't know how she DIDN'T win this one, quite frankly, She elevates an already very good film.

Tomei is every funny but it's such a weird nomination in general, I don't really know what to think of it, all these years still.

Vanessa Redgrave is a gloriously talented actress, but she was barely in "Howards End," and Marisa OWNED "My Cousin Vinny."

This was a very strong category...Davis, so strong and funny...Plowright, so subtle...Redgrave, so haunting...Richardson, utterly heartbreaking...and Tomei, so energetic and hilarious. For me Davis should have won. Judy Davis is one of the greatest working actresses of her generation and the gift that Woody Allen gave her in Sally was played to perfection...Redgrave would have been my second choice simply because she haunts the film long after her character passes away in the first act.

Tomei is a good actress and she has become better and better over the years, and her performance in My cousin Vinny was a showy performance, but that oscar belonged to Judy Davis, she had been nominated in the past ten years and was

My jaw dropped when Tomei won this Oscar. Her performance is so different in its tone from the other nominees (all, non Americans), that, perhaps, it stood out. To say that she is the funniest thing in "My Cousin Vinney" is not necessarily high praise. I admire Tomei's work in "The Wrestler", "In the Bedroom" and "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead". Any of the other 4 nominees as winner would have been more appropriate, especially Judy Davis.

Cruz win was patethic, Marisa was totally robbed. No one else (maybe Amy a little bit) didn`t deserved this prize. In 2002 Connelly won. For what? For that she has broken mirror? I think yes, and this is not fair. Again, no one else (Maggie has already 2 Oscars, Helen will won in the future-), Kate was miserable, i don`t like her perfomance) deserved it like Marisa. Vanessa all the way. She has the most investment in her character and the shortest amount of screentime.... Judy is a bit much for my liking....Joan is warm but the movie and character arc is ....a little thin. Marisa is fun but c'mon a talented eighth grader could pull that off. Miranda is solid particularly in the beginning of DAMAGE when she lays the foundation of this woman (her love for Irons and her family, her suspicion of Binoche)
