I totally laugh at that part at 3:30 while watching the actual movie. Spit the Blood of the Kali right in the Thuggee's face! LMBO!!! 5:01-5:07 I would think; why didn't Indiana just use his tongue and inner cheek muscles to expel the blood of Kali from his mouth? I mean, the Thuggee pinched his nose, but he didn't pinch his lips closed. Indy could have just sent the blood running out of his mouth and spilling onto the floor instead of swallowing it.

The UK versions always have had a few bits cut out. Also the bit where Indy is punched in the chest and wheezes (followed by Willie saying to Shorty "Alright - save him!" though her words are in the UK one, you dont see indy wheeze )

@Columbo794 I remember seeing this film twice in theaters, this was a very, very contraversal film. This movie and Gremlins is what caused PG-13 to be created. Personally, the heart ripping scene would have been more effective if they cut it like they did on tv. Less is more, But seeing a child whipped by another child, I think parents complained about that more. This is a dark film, but interesting.
Short Round strikes a fire torch on him for a split second which wakes him. Later he does the same to the Maharaja kid who then alerts the authorities. Odd that he didn't try that on Mola Ram or anyone else though.
(2) - It was one of the kid slaves who said that but later Short Round discovered he could use the torch to wake Indy by striking a thuggee in self defense first..... it's a bit silly, but then I think the focus of TOD is the roller coaster action and audio/visual technique than the slightly absurd plot.

the thing i like about indiana jones is that he is very real. brave and fearless as he may be, he still makes mistakes, still feels pain, still feels fear (you can see it in 0:39), and still has to face the consequences of his actions. harrison ford is the only actor who can ever act as indiana jones.

I have heard stories from when this movie was first aired about people refusing invitations to lunch at Indian homes for fear of being fed "chilled monkey brains" and other discusting things Indians were portrayed as eating, and they thought that these kinds of things were happening in Indian culture. I am a Hindu myself and these never happened in Indian culture.

@Deader87 Actually, even when this movie was made, people were alot more tolerant and understanding of Indian culture and Hinduism that what they were in the 1960s. Between the 1930s and the 1960s (1960s in North America), many westerners started taking interest in Hinduism, yoga, meditation etc. But, while on one side people were taking interest with things Indian and Hindu as I mentioned above, on the other, there are those who try to paint a negative picture of Indian culture and Hinduism.

So then, She let out her tongue so that the drops of blood would fall on that thus rendering him powerless..

@bandhurey I agree with you. If we tolerate bullying, non Hindus say our religion has flaws. If we speak out against these kinds of stupid movies, then the same non Hindus will say that we are being whiney and emotional.The difference between us and them is that we will never make these kinds of movies about Jesus and Christians as we respect other religions. We never attack ordinary Christians, we only attack those who say bad things about Hinduism or other religions.

This is based of the Thugee cult. Kali Ma is the Goddess of Death, but she isn't evil. The Thugee are misinterpreting their own religion (kind of like the Westboro Baptist Church).

I know who Kali is, Im indian ....Ive been raised with her pictures etc. Shes the most compassionate goddess, her form is there to make the ego tremble, but those with no ego see only compassion. the thing i like about indiana jones is that he is very real. brave and fearless as he may be, he still makes mistakes, still feels pain, still feels fear (you can see it in 0:39), and still has to face the consequences of his actions. harrison ford is the only actor who can ever act as indiana jones.

@Deader87 I said that in reference to the ugly way the Indian culture and Hindu faith has been porttrayed in that movie and the fact that inspite of it all, the guy playing "Mola Ram" acted in this. Kali does not "get people", I said that in a sarcastic way. But in this movie, Kali, a kind and loving Mother, has been porttrayed as an evil maniacal goddess who demands human sacrifices. I am a Hindu and I know who Kali is and I know that the "Kali" shown there is not Kali..

@Deader87 Continued from above... but a destorted Hollywood pertrayal of Kali, Hinduism and Indian culture. I have heard stories from when this movie was first aired about people refusing invitations to lunch at Indian homes for fear of being fed "chilled monkey brains" and other discusting things Indians were portrayed as eating, and they thought that these kinds of things were happening in Indian culture. I am a Hindu myself and these never happened in Indian culture.

@Deader87 Actually, even when this movie was made, people were alot more tolerant and understanding of Indian culture and Hinduism that what they were in the 1960s. Between the 1930s and the 1960s (1960s in North America), many westerners started taking interest in Hinduism, yoga, meditation etc. But, while on one side people were taking interest with things Indian and Hindu as I mentioned above, on the other, there are those who try to paint a negative picture of Indian culture and Hinduism.

@Deader87 Well, in the context of the entire movie, this was a practice "that had not been seen in a century". It wasn't portraying all Hinduism in this light, just a certain branch of it. It was ancient ways still practiced in secret.

As in all religions, there was a group of people who took the wrathful aspects of God, ie Kali, quite literally and they assume that Kali wanted blood sacrifices, when really She drank the blood of one demon, because he had a boon that for every drop of his blood that fell on the ground, more demons would be generated. So then, She let out her tongue so that the drops of blood would fall on that thus rendering him powerless..

As I said earlier, these things like human sacrifices did happen in the name of Kali, but, not even remotely like this. As you can see, the ripping the heart out was taken from ancient Aztec and Mayan cultures, the lowering into a lava pit from ancient Hawaiian culture, and Indians do not eat snakes or monkey brains.

It was not that Kali wants, or likes the taste of blood, she did all that because that demon (Raktabija) otherwise would of destroyed the earth. But, as I stated above, some fanatics misinterpreted these and thought that Kali demanded ritual sacrifices. But that was like 1% of the Hindu population at the time. Otherwise, this never happened.

Harison Ford is one of the best acters in the world. there are few people that can act like there in real pain, and Ford is one of them.
the scene where he was on the rock crusher reacting to the voodoo doll is another fine example, and is one of my favorite scenes.
