It's due to linguistic interpretation. The reason you are likely to miss the 'F' in 'OF' is because as you read 'OF' it actually sounds like 'OV' and you disregard it because you are unconciously looking for the sound of 'PH'

In order for any IQ test to be accurate, logic suggests any individual who devises such a test must have an IQ greater than the entire set of individuals who are to sit the test.

IQ testing is flawed simply because knowledge does not equal intellegence. If you test a man who is illiterate and lives in an insular, rural community in Africa or Asia, with a standard IQ test, he will test zero - getting no answers correct. But clearly, he does not have an IQ of zero, as that would imply he was so mentally damaged he could not function. He just never learned reading or math.

This has nothing to do with intellect, IQ is the combination of MANY different things and therefore cannot be tested by such a small test. The only thing it tells you is if you have good observing skills, a retard (read: idiot savant) can read the sentence and spot all the F's, while a genius only sees two of 'em. Its all a matter of perceiving.

I have tried this with non-native English speakers. Every time I tried it they find all 6. One explanation is that they are all geniuses, but I think they tend to see letters where native speakers see words, so while the average English speaker will skim over the word "Of" because it doesn't have an "F" sound, a non-native speaker does not skim so quickly over the word and more readily sees the letters "O" and "F"

The only way to make this fair is to say you've got a strict time limit like 10 seconds. Otherwise, if you go through methodically, letter by letter, which I did, you find six, you'd be kind of dumb not to. The reason you don't is because you're a "cognitive miser" - your brain looks for the easy answer, the answer which is probably right to the degree of certainty you need to be for a given situation, not that you're stupid.
