Forgot, do you hunt at all or just build the bows for the fun of building. I am a hunter, and Id like to make one for hunting deer. I did hear you in the vid mention 53# which is plenty. If I buy a thin lamination of hickory on your red oak bow, that will raise draw weight a bit???
@1navynuke I just make bows for the fun of it. I've wanted to go bow hunting for the last couple of years. I just don't have the time to put in the practice necessary to get good enough to hunt with a bow. Other people have hunted with my bows, though.
Yes, a hickory backing will add weight to your red oak bow, but you should keep the hickory really thin or it will overpower the red oak.
Great videos and awesome website. I found it today and checked it out. I can sense a piece of red oak in my near future that I will attempt to craft/force into a bow. I fired you an email from the email addy on your website. Thanks for the help and inspiration.
@EdvvardCash Thanks for your concern, but it's quite safe. It's a reflex/deflex bow, so it's supposed to bend like that. Besides, it's fiberglass, so it would take a lot to make it explode.
@julian1569 I misunderstood you. I thought you wanted to get a bow, but it sounds like you just want to get some wood to make a bow. Yes, you can go to Lowes and get a red oak board to make a bow. Just make sure the grain is straight and everything.

@julian1569 I don't think you can get a bow at Lowes or Michaels.
