I don't know who he is but it looked like John got a little embarassed at the remark. John was so gifted that he can sing anywhere and accompany himself with whatever instrument that he was holding at the time.
Thats the Lewis Family with little Roy lewis on banjo seated next to Jesse. The Del McCory band playing behind John. The great Jimmy martin @ 1:14 with the pink tie. At 3:17 in the green shirt is Eddie Adcock, sitting below him on banjo is Sonny Osborne with his brother next to him famous for Rocky Top. At 4:08 with the plaid shirt is the Tennessee slicker himself, Leroy Troy. @ 4:22 with the brown jacket is a great guitar player known as the "Sherrif". @ 5:02 in the brown jacket is Del McCrory.
@TheGhost5600 Thanks for the great info. Ya know who that guitarist is at 2:01?? I think he was the one saying, 'You cry all the way to the bank." John calls him Roy.
Looked (and sounded) like Mac Wiseman doing the " hosting" ( introductory remarks). I also thought I saw one of the McReynolds brothers sitting in the group (although he was not playing anything).
@jrhays49 Google would agree with that Mac info. Thanks for that tidbit. If you've heard John's 'Tater Tate And Allen Mundy', you'll hear Mac's name as well as many more greats from that genre. A great Hartford style classic. I will hack out the lyrics to it one day, as I don't think anybody other than John has.
Who's that guy in the red to John's left? I've seen him on an infomercial.
It was great fun trying to identify some of the faces of the veteran musicians. Don Reno, Chubby Wise, Del McCoury (I think) , Lester Flatt, Vassr Clements (possibly). Others?
I once ran into John at the Tropicana Cafe having breakfast and I begged him to tour Australia but he wasn't up for suc h a lon g flight. pity. What a gem he was. Can anyone tell me where this was filmed, and when..... it looks like a great
@bodgiefahey I actually Emailed John's site and asked 'someone' where this came from, and the reply was, "Great video, where did ya get it?" So even the folks connected to John are clueless. You'll have to get a hold of others, like his son maybe??
Great vid, and I love it too. Would like to see more myself. I like the comment at the beginning, "And you cry all the way to the bank." Who yapped that?? Roy something??
Let's keep this gem right here on youtube. It's one of the best examples of this incredible talent at work. His instant likability and unique talent to entertain is clearly seen at work here. How do you follow a performance like that?!
wow... and..he is sooooo rich..

@TheGhost5600 I think John rolled with it just fine as his comeback was delivered right away!
"John was so gifted that he can sing anywhere and accompany himself with whatever instrument that he was holding at the time"
and if you have the 'Mark Twang' album, that would include his boots! Great album!!!

John looked a little weak in this video because the cancer was starting to take its toll. I miss him like a brother.

@weissang Jesse McReynolds is the guy on John's left. Man, can he play a wicked mandolin!!!!!! Thank goodness for GOOGLE!!!
And, I don't see Vassar in there anywhere. A hell of a fiddler nonetheless.
