A brilliant enhancement to Elmer's engine design to include the integral boiler .... gives me ideas of attempting something similar with his slightly larger 'Fancy' engine. Thanks for sharing this.
I have the book of Elmer's engine and all the plans! Is that where you got the plans to build yours as well? Cool video Post more gave ya a 5 not only because I love Elmers engines but it was a good video too Joseph T (fly2000jtb)
I hope steam never dies, In fact they should bring it back, After all its what built Britain just ask Fred Dibnah. If he was still with us I would take him down the pub and get him in a pint, God bless
In the video, pause at 0:14, and the retaining pin can be seen on the right. During assembly, at 1:06, this pin is not placed, because it takes quite an effort to get it in place!
I suppose you could start by milling two chamfer's then finishing off by hand, but probably not worth it. I see it's all brass which looks very nice. This might be perfect project to dust off the old unimat. I plan on making one.
A small channel is drilled from the bottom just clearing the driveshaft, entering the steam inlet for the cilinder. Take care not to hit the driveshaftbore, this will result in having to remake this part .

How much hp does it give?

just enough to keep itself in motion, touching the flywheel will stop it easily!

How did you round the back of the cylinder? Did you do it by hand with a file or somehow machine it?
Enigma758 2 years ago
machining this part is somewhat difficult, and the soft brass is easy to shape with a file, so go ahead and move those elbows!

Beautiful little engine, and great choice of music to go with it.
What's the displacement of the engine?
Obsidian433 2 years ago
The bore is 5mm, and so is the stroke.
This results in a displacement of 0.0982cc.

I'm building one of these right now but with a steam inlet on top, so how are you feeding the steam in through the bottom?

you really should built more engines and sell them, i think a lot of people would like to buy them
