  • i love how creative the german rock bands were during this time. theres the awesome, balls to the wall riff, and then when it stops and you have the great little interlude things. man its just perfect. perfect mixture of creative and accessible. My favorite part is at 2:00 when it breaks down with that beautiful guitar playing, and then comes back in with "BUT THEY DON'T UNDERSTAAAND"

  • this is the best song ever.

  • most badass song name ever, very fitting for the song

  • Fuck YEAH!!

  • Total caveman drumming!

  • They Say Beyoncé, I Say Renate knaup

  • this should be in an art gallery

  • Wow, this is truly haunting and great! I first heard of them from a question on the "Rock Trivia" boardgame I got in 1983. I always wondered who they were until somehow I remembered their name and typed it in. We never got to experience this where I grew up and live.

  • simply: 6/5!

  • Amon Duul - Wicked!!! Kraut Rock Rools. Genau?

  • unbelievable cränk classis kraut rock song made in germany... just love it... unkle kuttner told me 'bout them... ;)

  • wolfmother has a similar sound. i wonder if they were influenced by them or it's just a coincidence.

  • @bluestate69 i bet the wolfs never heard of'em...

  • @bluestate69 wolfmother gathers from anything sounding remotely 70's like led zeppelin, black sabbath, queen etc. so in a way it's not a coincidence since this is late 60's early 70's rock like Crimson King, Cream, Suck and so on and so forth.. especially check out Suck, if you like this kind of music, might tickle your fancy.

  • Yeah - it´s from "YETI" - a great double album (in the original vinyl form) from one of the best german (Kraut)- Rockbands!!!

  • U N G L A U B L I C H !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what the record name where that song is contained?

  • Amazing song...I love this....

  • What an amazing song.....incredible!

  • When the everywhere-eye asks u who is the emperor of the sky

    "GOOSE BUMPS" in English.

    De groeten! xD

  • i think this is one of the 10 most underated bands on earth.

so many artists sample "amon düül 2" stuff.they influence so many bands, but nobody know this band.

  • Further to my last message - I have now found out the name of the film from which the video was assembled.

It is called Man and Women by Cecil B DeMille 1919 staring Gloria Swanson et al. Gloria Swanson was terrified during the part which is filmed in the lions den.

The episode in this video clip is a fantasy scene within a plot largely the same as the movie recreated in the 1950's called the Admiral Crichton with Kenneth More

If you want to see the movie Man and Woman search films

  • Amon Duul are truely a historic and brilliant band - Try Wolf City also - the video sent shiver I thought it an absolute art work of editing. But what FILM was the video taken from - I would love to know.

  • i am hooked on this track. the guitar sound is a huge influence on U2 when they recorded Achtung Baby in Germany. bet The Edge was listening to this over there at that time. this was a track from a band that started up in the sixties and was ahead of its time.

  • @StrummingSparrow Actually, me too! Moreover, that's a combination with this vid that makes it SIMPLY FUCKIN' AWESOME!

  • WAGNERIAN !

  • "Through lives and lives, thou shalt PAY"....wow..that's a threat not to be taken lightly........

  • Das ist gut jah!

  • Used to have their double album Yeti in my music collection, back in the days of vynil. Cool!

  • una vera chicca!

  • Gotta luv that Krautrock.....

    Respect !!!

  • This is one of my favorite anthems.

  • Black Mountain & Sleepy sun have definitely been influenced by Amon Duul ll!!!!

  • @31313131q Thou art the 'suck' expert ,I was told....;]

  • Damn this song is rockin'! Dare I say proto-punk? (Don't worry, I know Amon Duul II was considered "krautrock")

  • @GreekFire25 Me too but I did catch them many moons ago at a little venue in Manchester - the infamous Stoneground club.

  • I have all their albums, I first heard them in the mid 70's never did see them live but one of my all time favorite bands.

  • I really don't know what the fuck I am listening to... but I bloody love it. ♥

  • dont know this song.nice track

  • It seems like mr Lydon was taking after her on PIL's First Issue and MetalBox, right?

  • woaooaahh! Renate's voice!!! Earthly and spacey, so cold and sexy, it's a mystery to me!!!

  • Incredible band. One of the finest in music history

  • faboulous Amoun Duul : a reference !

  • à bordeaux dans les années 70 en cité u avec amon duul , grands moments.....

  • Sounds like Led Zeppelin on Heroine but very very very good!!!!

  • Awsome song, sounds like the Banshees 5 years before they formed

  • I love this alot. diid anyone find out if this comes from a movie? What movie? I want to see it. By the way, this is my favorite Amon Duul song!

  • The best thing i,ve ever seen - including the moon landings

    My favourite video on YouTube

  • Who knows the title of the movie taht we can see in this video ?

  • Through lives and lives! Wow, and they reckon they're ain't no Buddhism in the Bible.

  • Break alert! Did any German hiphophead sample this drumbreak at the start?

  • many thanks -

  • i hear it for the first time... and i love it

  • Brilliant!!

  • I'm falling in love again with this band that I adored in the 70's

  • trippy!

  • Dieter Servas was once the Drummer with Amon Düül. He lives in my Town and I know him Good Song!

  • This guys are all italians, great musicians indeed.

  • @PrePiovaPost they are german, not italian

  • I WAS AND AM A AD LOVER I GROWN UP WITH THEM

  • Very much cult!

  • The Video of the silent movie fits the song perfectly. Because Amon Duul II is a timeless band.

  • 11 dislikes?! whats not to like?

  • @kosmischesynth

    to be retarded?

  • this video is amazing, i commented a year ago & said the same thing then.

Perfect ! thank you! great work

  • I wish a lot of these type of bands actually broke into mainstream in countries like Australia. This song is fucking amazing.

  • Kennengelernt auf einer LP "Rock in Deutschland" Im Untergrund gibt es there

gute und geniale Menschen. Also genau diese Mischung muss es sein! I think.

Also nicht nur auf dieses Lied beschränkt...

  • well id say PiL were listening to this, sounds like new wave post-punk only its pre-punk-avant-no-wave-garage-prog-metal, and it makes you realize just how useless categories really are.............................pretty cool.

  • @TheBullhannigan lol@"pre-punk-avant-no wave-garage-prog metal"

  • Got to be one of the best intros ever.

  • freakin'nice! I think its a big example for Wolfmother

  • Klasse song, habe ich schon ewig nicht mehr gehört.Danke fürs zeigen!

  • Bitchin' track! Beautiful video. Thanks so much,

  • NRRRDLemur14 you are a retard. "Lucifer is referred to as the lion". in the bible The lion usually means the lion of judah, or the messiah. for Christians, that's Jesus. Not lucifer. and Narnia obviously is just making reference to to the christian stuff.

  • Did she just make a Narnia refrence? A lion and they call him god?

  • Lucifer is referred to as the lion, as the lion symbolizes pride, and as does Lucifer. =).

  • 6/4

  • @quilmesredlager

    Well spotted! Hats off sir!!

  • this is music that makes u remember why u fell in love with music in the first place, makes us all happy children, hahaha love the groove, the start is one of my fav intros ever, so cool

  • When the everywhere-eye Asks you Who is the emperor Of the sky Take the Archangel's Thunderbird Baiting soldiers are sleeping In the melting House of Wax Why is the audience not taking The insurrection-axe Thousands of windows burst open And the alarm bells are broken
  • A hidden gem, rock classic. Love krautrock and psychedelica.

  • Fucking amazing hoot

  • Renate Knaup, Ich lieber dich!

  • Great number. Still sounds very acceptable today, and not in the least dated. There later stuff, ie after 75 and into the eighties sounds dated!! Fab inovative band up to 73!

  • what is the movie?

  • Male and Female, 1919 deMille

  • @klippspringer

    JAWOHL.

  • Can you believe it's almost 40 years old!? Put it on Cd now and it will sell a million amongst Goths!

  • Or maybe even among Emos!

  • @thexoldxman Not only among goths, also among normally technofreaks like me!! AMAZING music!

  • @thexoldxman Not only among goths, also among normally technofreaks like me!! AMAZING music!

  • @thexoldxman this is great but it wouldn't sell shit amongst goths..very very different genre..not saying anything bad about this but it's not goth before goth..

  • @thexoldxman goths?!?!

  • Best AD Song ever. Renate rules!

  • Phenomenal voice. She was interviewed for the recent BBC4 documentary on Kraut Rock. I bought "Live in London" in 1975 for 50p. A real bargain.

  • Wished id seen that. I bought Vive la trance and wolf city in 1975 in this second hand record shop in Brighton. They were about 50p! Thought I was the bees knees. Real mr underground!! Oh and patti smiths Horses.

  • Fing Awesome!

  • Любимая песня любимой группы.

  • @Ashrah186 In soviet Russia, You don't understand I!

  • whenever I listen to this it brings memories of times and places I haven't been to...as far as I know... (acid helps of course)

  • Hi long time no see. Love the song too. Very nice work this vid. The images fit the music in a strange and wonderful way. Beautiful!

  • it is strange to see amon duul on youtube. it's a blast out of the past. i used to go to their concerts when i lived in germany in the sixties/ seventies. definitely had a good time. if any one wants to know which direction life took me, click on my page.

  • Sidney?

  • @thepostaromana

yes , i live about 100km's south of sydney. it was once a good place to live.

  • this is like an ode to krautrock

  • I'm just beginning to delve into this band's work - wonderful stuff! So adventurous and otherworldly! Is there a clip of "Sleepwalkerrs Timeless Bridge"? That would be fabulous!

  • i am god

  • i was introduced to amon duul after the recent bbc4 documentary, and now i can't get enough...

  • I'm REALLY glad they started the documentry with them. I frequently enjoy their work.

Actually, all mentioned groups are good. Therefore, the doc is awesome! I was so happy when it got posted on YouTube.

  • Far-out music and film !!!

  • one day perhaps i´ll get tired of listening to this song...but not today...

  • Im back , I got tired of not listening to it.

  • Maybe..just maybe øne day,

    but NØT twoday ♥

  • Who you callin' a faggot, you myopic bigot?

Regardless, this IS one the best rock tunes ever, hands down. Thanks for posting it.

  • which movie is this?

  • ...is this the legendary DeMille 'Babylon set' out in the CA. desert ?

  • I think so

  • i remember i watched this on acid and it was like the chick was singing to the king. and the lions, THE LIONS!!!! aahaha

  • also at 2:20 when shes walkin down the stairs was ultra tripped out

negativeeclipse if u made this ur a fucken genious

  • Why, that's acid alright! Perfect 10.

  • WAGNERIAN !♫!

  • a beautiful video. a timeless suggestion

  • The name "Amon Duul" I mean.

  • You confuse it with Amon Amarth :-)

  • Oh okay, yeah you're right, haha. Thanks.

  • What a fantastic song accented by that caterwauling femme vocalist. A lot of German bands were breaking some serious ground 40+years ago! Klaus Schulze, Spektakel, Organisation...record labels like Brain and Bacillus & all this trippy fantastic extruded swirling psychedelia. I've been really enjoying Phallus Dei and Paradeiswarts Duul lately--late bloomer to the pre-Tanz/Yeti stuff when I bought Wolf City and the companion Utopia albums back in '73

  • Sounds best on a Telefunken "Lightning Bolt" factory radio in the dash of an early 1950's VW bus.

  • I thought about starting an Amon Duul tribute band. Not Amon Duul 2, but Amon Duul. I wonder if anyone would ever notice...

  • the original Amon Duul might be be!

  • Amon Düül I is quite underrated actually. Of course Amon Düül II is better, and more talented, but Amon Düül I has its nice moments too, although it often has more of a minimalistic sound :)

  • I thought they were a commune, and AD II was the band?

  • I think that they both started of as a commune, exploring music, before splitting up into two separate groups, AD and AD II. They still played together live however.

  • Cool

great track hadnt heard this for years many thanks

  • i got 3 of thier albums from the seventies including a limited edition *live in london*all in exellent condition. still love the music.....

  • oh, i have 19 albums :-D

  • Krautrock at its best!! Great song!!

  • DeMille's "Male & Female" (1919) [Babylonian Flashback, of which this is just part; extraordinary film with two characters & plot shocks that Hollywood wouldn't allow today]

  • Hollywood is useless and dead.
