Some of this stuff is BS. Some guy was expecting his Windows ME software to work with Vista. That's like me trying to get Windows 3.1 drivers to work with Windows 7.
if anyone has had the black screen problem when you get to that screen ctrl, alt, delete start the task manager then start a new task like itunes or IE after a minute or two you will hear the welcome ping and then the task bar will appear. hope this helps
I remember when my I got my HP laptop, the month Vista was released... For six months everytime I closed iTunes (which was necessary because I had an iPod) I got a BSoD... Then there was the time Vista suddenly decided to delete half of the system 32 folder and corrupted the recovery partition, so I had to have HP mail me a recovery disc... And there was oh so much more (the laptop's video card melted a year later, but that wasn't necessarily Vista's fault)
As of Fridar, May 27, 2011 God damn vista is still in the shitters for my older pc's lying around, of course I am using Windows 7 the best thing to ever come to Microsoft operating systems for my self-built gaming rig. I can't stand how much of a memory hog vista is and driver support still eats shit. Still Mac OS doesn't do anything for me in particular, not a fan of any apple product. NOT STARTING OS WAR HERE, just a preference. Windows 7 has won for me.
my computer completely crashed and i had to get a new oone because of vista! 7 works a whole lot better but macs are the way to go if you want stability
@AmandaAJThomas not quite. if you want stability then you want xp. its the os that almost every other os looks at and says, i wish i could handle things like him. windows 7 is very similar to xp except new interface and a truck load of new features however any features you add will make the overall os a bit more unstable. windows 7 is almost as reliable as os 10, this is fact. there is almost no difference. the only reason 7 is slightly less is because it can use more programs
i HAD Windows Vista Home Basic before i uninstalled it and spent 2 months figuring out that i hade to go to BIOS and change hard disk type to IDE to actually install XP, good to be back!
JameyScott, From June, 2007, to yesterday, I've had Vista on my laptop. A couple months ago, I doubled the RAM from 1 GB to 2. I'm not sure what you mean by "slow," but it wasn't too bad with 1 GB. There was a noticeable speed increase with the RAM.
well ofcourse there is going to be a speed increase just like if i had xp and then added another half a gig it is going to be faster no matter how much you there may not be significant increase but there will be in
well my taskbar always crashes, when runing gta sa when i pause the screen goes black and have restart by hold off button on and last night i had due boot with vista working then when i started vista my comp then shutdown and couldnt find a boot file to start windows so reinstalled xp got on and found out vista (c:/) had renamed itself to (i:/) then i deleted all my partions and then vista changted back to c:/ so i lost everythink that was inportand
since my computer has 24 viruses(ouch) i might need to get a new harddrive so i can finally break away from the piece of crap none as vista. not sure if i should go to xp or try the macs osx though, if i could get the drivers for it.
The thing is, Windows has always had problems, because it always does things we dont want. The difference with GNU/Linux is not necessarily that it has less problems, but that people actively work to fix them, unlike windows which still contains the same problems in win7 as it did in 2000.
Mr Pirillo, I am running Vista and i do not have one ioda of issues. I love Vista. I am running the 64 Bit on a Dell Xps with 12 Gb of RAM and a 2.93 GHZ Quad core I7. The secret to running Vista sucessfully is memory. Buy as much as you can because this slut is a memory hog. Again, I have no issues with Vista. There is an SP2 that i installed last week. That could be the other reason why it runs so well.
You have a Core i7 and 12GB of ram. Systems like this were not available back when he made this video. Try running Vista on a dual core and 2gb of ram, it'll slow to a crawl. On a quad core with 4GB of ram it becomes acceptable, but the UI design and performance are still not an improvement over XP.
If you want a new version of windows with speed, go with windows 7 rc like i'm running
3gb of ram
250gb hard drive (getting solid state soon)
1.80ghz core 2 duo
Right now im running win 7 rc and I haven't had one unresponsive program (except for windows movie maker (but I was using a different font(which you aren't supposed to do)))
Can't get Office 2007 or Visual Studio 2008 to work right in Vista Home Premium. Also no driver support for my dot matrix printer (MX-80.) My Canon printer came with its own drivers and works fine, but I need my MX-80 to work.
I am very lucky to have had only one bsod (caused by a virtual machine of windows 7) and a slightly iffy graphics driver from intel. Apart from that, all perfect.
Everytime I opened a folder using Windows Explorer, The whole explorer shell crashed. It is the only OS I know to not be able to handle file management. I switched to Ubuntu last year - I'm not going back
i am running a intel celeron 2.00ghz 1gb of ram with a 160gb and 500gb harddrives, and a creative SB live! value. On the 160gb i have windows xp pro sp3 it runs grate but on my 500 gb i have windows vista ultimate and i can not get my sound card drivers to work at all :(
No problems. Vista 64 bit. But its soooo funny. I once tried to install XP 64 bit (on a different partition) and on my first boot I got a blue screen of death. >.>
My dad just got the "the user profile service failed the logon" error :( I had to edit the .bak flies in the registry to fix it. I am using a macbook pro tho :D
i have a new 8.9 netbook for my buisness it have windows vista buiness 1.2 mhz intel atom processor 1gb ram 100Gb Hardrive then i have a bulky computer with xp but it has exactly the same features as a little netbook but xp dosen't load as fast as vista vista is great for me, i don't mind xp they have their own features that i like so again to decide if you hate vista you have to try vista before you judge it simple?? nice video chris,
am using sony vaio vista and evrythin goin on fine wit me,am not hevy use my laptop any way
but i gat smal problem wit me tht my laptop is 250GB space of hard drive,so 65GB alredy been used from the disc i checkd in the disc but i didnt find anythin cousd from my work i notice that windows file in the hard drive is already been used up to 70GB n the program file alsoe been used up to 30GB total is 100GB wht m laptop been using not me
i cnt belive windows vista cousin me 100GB cn u help me plz
yes yes yes yes. its compatibility with my video card. fucking vista. intel makes shitty cards too but on my xp machine with an intel card NO PROB. on vista BLUESCREEN BLUESCREEN STOP FREEZE! BLUESCREEN!
hey why would you read that e-mail when you can read technical shit on a blue background?
sounds like how i want to spend my afternoon isnt it yours?
I've no problems, even using the the Beta for Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2.v113 build 6002. Usually, beta software is all buggy but SP2 Beta isn't
i just have to ask. Do you use your XP machine all the time? Because start -up time can vary between the OS or can be something simple as your RAM isn't powerful enough. No matter what the newer the OS the slower it will go, if you use a piece of shit computer.
I have had Vista 64bit for about 6 months. It freezes for long periods on a regular basis, it crashes on a regular basis.
Running on quad core, 6gb DDr2 Ram, ATI 4870 512 GPU, 320 Gig HD (1/3 full) No Pirate software, no dodgy downloads. Why can't they release stable software?
Even IE 64bit has plenty of issues and its been out for a small while.
Will Windows 7 be the answer, just like Vista was to be? I think MS are going to have a big issue with the future customers trusting them.
Any to be honest, but you've gotta check whether its compatible first. Read some FAQs and forums about it, my 4870 ATI graphics card is still shown as an 'Unknown Display Device' and I can't make the most of it, so be very careful. I'd suggest using a high end Core 2 Duo for a processor and a low range graphics card. It doesn't support the latest and greatest unfortunately.
the only reason I use Vista is because it came free with my fuckin laptop. Yes, it was a bad decision, I want to go anti-Microsoft and choose an EeePC with Linux. The only possible reason I would ever possibly go back to Vista would be to play some future games, but I even have doubts about that now, after gaes like FarCry2 put fucking little spyware shit in their games. Every company these days tries to follow Micosoft's evil ways.
Vista Isn't crap. it has come a long way since it first came out. Pretty much all of the so called "Problems", have been fixed. And as for software you shouldn't blame Microsoft. It's the people that have made the software you should blame.
Microsoft were the people who made the OS, duh and Vista is the same power-draining crap which can't run 80% of PC games I have. In fact it can barely run its own exclusives, without a decent framerate that is.
Its compatibility mode is fake fucking bullshit. When running Vista, it used about 500MB of RAM. Now that I moved to 2kPro it barely uses 60MB, get the point? Fan speed is always at 100% on Vista, on 2kPro stays at a tiny 10%
Long way my ass, its the same shitty OS it always was
vista SP1 full has been released now, but it works fine, and its great and why do you people need to start a operating system war, its just a operating system, stick to the one you love and don't bash the others
Cool. I love Windows Vista too, it works fine and it's quite stable to boot. Only thing that I don't like about Vista is User account control (UAC), but I have that turned off so it's no problems really.
Instead of making a legit and intelligent argument on how Vista is "better", you call the man a faggot, and tel him to use Linux. Yeah, that'll show him. <_<
The SP1 Beta installed with no problem on my 2 year old machine (not to mention my new one). I'm not sure what kind of hardware he has, but hey nothing's perfect. Also keep in mind he installed a "Beta" version. If he didn't back up his system before hand, I have no sympathy for him. Any "Geek" should have known to do that, unless his machine was expendable and not used for production - in which case he shouldn't be complaining.
the only problem i have is the drivers.. can't seem to get the video cam to work on my acer laptop, even thoguht the drvers were "certified" with vista
i have started "switching" to Leopard i had an extremly powerful machine running Vista and i had more problems than i ever have had on xp but i have started to give up on windows
I bought a new toshiba labtop with vista on it its ok i get that black screen when i turn it on or take it off sleep the programs screw up alot but i have been using windows all my life so i just live with it im thinking of switching to mac
I hate Vista. Vista came with my pc. I bought my pc so I chould play games, because my old computer chouldn't. I liked Xp better. Well ok so my pc has trouble running PC games. The games will freze and lag from time to time because of vista.
From Slashdot..."Are you using Windows Vista? Then you might as well know that the licensed operating system installed on your machine is harvesting a healthy volume of information for Microsoft. In this context, a program such as the Windows Genuine Advantage is the last of your concerns. In fact, in excess of 20 Windows Vista features and services are hard at work collecting and transmitting your personal data to the Redmond company."
I don't have any problems with Vista since I would never install such a piece of shit. There is NO reason to "Downgrade" to Vista. Absolutely none! Xp is faster and works-enough said and my Linux OS is faster yet! If you buy a new PC demand XP maybe M$ will get it through their thick skulls that we don't want Vista!!!
I have Vista and a mac i use the mac more then vista vista is lucky if i boot it here and there i have had about 40 errors i have reinstalled 2 times and mac no errors at all runing tiger
i'll make it short and sweet Vista+Nvidia driver equal blank black screen even in safe mode at all times AKA twas a pain my in butt to fix happened twice.

Will Windows 7 be the answer, just like Vista was to be? I think MS are going to have a big issue with the future customers trusting them.

I have had no problems with vista for almost 2 years, and then it freezes on me. I really enjoy windows 7, it's quick, and has a very nice UI.

win xp x64 is awesome and stable.. it's been around long enough to be good, vista needs another 7 years

Have you used windows vista recently? or are you just going off what other people are saying.

My new laptop built for Vista is great in hardware, but when I use Vista, the biggest load of crap I ever used.
It makes my old XP computer (that I'm using now) look like a god ¬¬
ShadowXRougeXEver 3 years ago
Vista is quite good.
illage2 3 years ago
If your lucky.
I personally have tried 2 laptops, both crap.
Not just me, my friend only tried it for 15mins and he managed to crash.
I'm planning on getting Linux for my laptop.

I like macs because i can have both mac and windows operating systems.
dimmufan192 3 years ago
I like PCs as well because I can install Windows, Mac, Linux, Solaris, or any OS.
vahnx1337 3 years ago
You can install all of those Operating systems. But isn't running Mac on a pc illegal?
illage2 3 years ago
Meh
vahnx1337 3 years ago
no it isn't. Its called a Hackintosh, Google it if you wish. Very legal.
angleisthebest 3 years ago
Ah. I see, so what spec's do you need to use it?
illage2 3 years ago
Any to be honest, but you've gotta check whether its compatible first. Read some FAQs and forums about it, my 4870 ATI graphics card is still shown as an 'Unknown Display Device' and I can't make the most of it, so be very careful. I'd suggest using a high end Core 2 Duo for a processor and a low range graphics card. It doesn't support the latest and greatest unfortunately.
angleisthebest 3 years ago
yeh Hackintosh FTW
hellzone100 3 years ago
the only reason I use Vista is because it came free with my fuckin laptop. Every company these days tries to follow Micosoft's evil ways.
angleisthebest 3 years ago
Vista Isn't crap. it has come a long way since it first came out. Pretty much all of the so called "Problems", have been fixed. And as for software you shouldn't blame Microsoft. It's the people that have made the software you should blame.
illage2 3 years ago
Microsoft were the people who made the OS, duh and Vista is the same power-draining crap which can't run 80% of PC games I have. In fact it can barely run its own exclusives, without a decent framerate that is.
Its compatibility mode is fake fucking bullshit. When running Vista, it used about 500MB of RAM. Now that I moved to 2kPro it barely uses 60MB, get the point? Fan speed is always at 100% on Vista, on 2kPro stays at a tiny 10%
Long way my ass, its the same shitty OS it always was

To be a geek, you need to be smart, a few months ago you promoted VISTA, that makes you a whore.
(oh, yeah, VISTA SUCKS)
vraciudude 3 years ago
that's why you don't install Beta versions, Beta (not finished yet) software
vista SP1 full has been released now, but it works fine, and its great and why do you people need to start a operating system war, its just a operating system, stick to the one you love and don't bash the others
william151515 3 years ago
Thats why you install the proper version. Works for me, and I love Vista :)
Xevonarin 3 years ago
Cool. I love Windows Vista too, it works fine and it's quite stable to boot. Only thing that I don't like about Vista is User account control (UAC), but I have that turned off so it's no problems really.

you are such a nerd it makes me want to give up computers altogether.
sorry dude, just wanted to point that out.

you're a faggot shut up use linux if your going to cry about vista
remixx04 3 years ago
Instead of making a legit and intelligent argument on how Vista is "better", you call the man a faggot, and tel him to use Linux. Yeah, that'll show him. <_<

Is it perhaps possible to just maybe... wait it out. You know, until Windows pushes the successor to Vista.
Or are they dead cert on Vista being the future of computing for the next X number of years? I'd be depressed if they were impressed so far.
TheConciseStatement 3 years ago
The SP1 Beta installed with no problem on my 2 year old machine (not to mention my new one). I'm not sure what kind of hardware he has, but hey nothing's perfect. Also keep in mind he installed a "Beta" version. If he didn't back up his system before hand, I have no sympathy for him. Any "Geek" should have known to do that, unless his machine was expendable and not used for production - in which case he shouldn't be complaining.

the only problem i have is the drivers.. can't seem to get the video cam to work on my acer laptop, even thoguht the drvers were "certified" with vista

Im getting meny problems. its a brand new machine from dell and its not good at all!
jugu10111213 4 years ago
I don't have any problems with Vista since I would never install such a piece of shit. There is NO reason to "Downgrade" to Vista. Absolutely none! Xp is faster and works-enough said and my Linux OS is faster yet! If you buy a new PC demand XP maybe M$ will get it through their thick skulls that we don't want Vista!!!

I have Vista and a mac i use the mac more then vista vista is lucky if i boot it here and there i have had about 40 errors i have reinstalled 2 times and mac no errors at all runing tiger

When you have a black screen with your pointer Ctrl Alt Delete and then go to run new task and put in explorer and it should go back to normal.

I have been running vista for a while now, and i havent had hardly any errors,
apart from Divx makes acouple of Glitches,
Itunes shows in fully black then fix it self after minimizing it and maxmising it again,
and Steam which take forever to load, and takes up all my Processing Power,
But Apart from that it works fine,
I agree with 'M1thotyn' preassembled computers are hell glitchy and plus after looking around way over priced.

i'll make it short and sweet Vista+Nvidia driver equal blank black screen even in safe mode at all times AKA twas a pain my in butt to fix happened twice.
