i am not suprised to hear about this because a lot of organization, these days, say they are christian and godly but actually they are doing evil things.

@greenbeanhope Because the survey wasn't done with participants from the Australian homes, it was from US participants . Also, I'm aware of the survey you're thinking of - and you need to realise that not all participants in Mercy's programs in the US were surveyed :( According to them, they surveyed some participants who they were still in touch with - so they were very selective. Those not surveyed weren't counted in the results. There are many ways like this to skew survey results.
Hi there i just would like to get some advise on how to handle the issue i have with few people live around me .first i am an handicab due too an drunk driver.and this one or two house hole live around us has been calling me a such ugly name for4 long years and i could not do anything about it at that time cause i was recovering from heart atteck &stroke.till last year this black women next door to me watch what i was doing and make fun of how i was walking with grass on other hand ,thats when
God will burn gays. I am a supporter of the Jesus Christians Community and they witness that God will send flaming arrows to kill homosexuals. Aids is God's punishment to queers. I am a devout Catholic and I know that MY God sees queers as deviants. They should be punished even on earth. I would put my boot into the back of anyone queer who came near my family. Lesbians tried to steal my daughter and they actually got her to have an abortion. She died. I talk about this at Freedomissacred.
@heavensmelody No, that's what you get for falsely advertising the qualifications of your staff, charging people for a "free" program, and abusing young people who are already facing challenges, all the while pretending to be a Christian organization.
what u forget t mention is how much $Millions Hillsong spend in helping people all around the world. Thats prob why they dont hav time to argue with ur petty little comments!
LOL, funny how this video like so many trying to find dirt on Hillsong, I guess it's an easy target due to it's enormous size. How many churches in Australia have grown to the size of Hillsong?
@dalekwatcher As far as I know, there was no monetary payment from Today Tonight. There was a full investigation into Mercy Ministries practices in Australia by the government and their services were shut down.
sorry , but thats just the way carismatic churchs are . this happens at my church almost every weekend . this is not a cult . this girl was just not informed of how this program is run . she had a choice and made it . praise out to mercy ministries for the work they do in young womens lives !!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i Had a friend who just finished going to mercy ministries. She was extremely anorexic and was dying. Mercy Ministries gave her hope and saved her life. they helped her work through her issues while giving her hope. dont believer everything you hear people, Mercy Ministries is a great organization to help the young girls who are willing the accept Jesus as their saviour and learn to move on while trusting in God.
Its good that your friend got help, but like I said before Mercy Australia has a lot to answer for. I have personally spoken to Nancy Alcorn and she told me that it was shocking what had been going on. But thank-goodness it has and is changing.
@semicharmed00 Don't go believing that this doesn't happen anywhere, but Australia. That's a bunch of crap. They use the same counseling model all of the world. And the same rules. Australia is just doing something about it.
@MsJaniceMarie A lot of girls(not all of them) come out of Mercy just new and still brainwashed. Eventually without the continual words from the staff, they fall behind. That and your friend could be completely lying to you. I did for a long time, because I didn't want to disappoint people.
this isn't about mercy, but I am not here to say whether or not girls have been abused, because I wasn't there. But I was abused whilst living in a foster home for 6 years, when my siblings and I came out about hardly any1 believed us, it really hurt and the reason why ppl didn't believe us was because my foster parents were highly regarded in the community, so in my experience the more regarded an org is the less ppl will believe u. But I don't think every foster home is bad.
Mercy Ministries did the exorcisms to me as well. They took my money and they wouldn't let me talk to family when I wanted to. Now if I need treatment, I go to a doctor. They aren't really Christian or at least what they do isn't Christian.
I graduated Mercy Ministries in Monroe Louisiana in 2005. I was addicted to drugs, I had sexual and physical abuse i my past, I was depressed, suicidal , and cuting myself.... Jesus set me free from all this pain and healed my heart. If it wasn't for Mercy Ministries taking me , Id be dead. I know many other girls who I lived with who also graduated, and they are living a life of freedom today as well.
Mercy Ministries in the US is run so much better than the one in Australia. Mercy Australia has a lot to answer for. I am glad you got the help you needed.
i see mercy ministry brochures in gloria jeans for abused women, makes me sick a coffee company gives 50 cents every coffee to these ass wipes. Especially a cult like hillsong being mercy ministry's little bitch. Any real psychologist / scientest or natural person would advise false cult following/idol mythology whorship is temporary..and not something that can fix you, victims upon victims are sucked in by money, let em enjoy their jesus blood
Hillsong has been like this since the day it started. I have known this since I was a young man. Of course no one listens do they. Especially christians because its an attack on their religion. Oh well, if its your religion that is to blame then do something about it.
I see very little mercy shown here or understanding of the lords ways only someone trying to be GOD. Beware hillsong ministry you are up against the real Mcoy
I say if u need help go to the doctor. Don't hand ur head to anyone who isnt qualified, a 90 percent success rate doesnt mean ur qualified. A diploma does and get good refs
I'd be careful. Mercy Ministries has been falsely flagging videos critical of Mercy as copyright infringement. Even interviews with Mercy-Survivors. One guy had his account taken down.
As an ex resident I can say that everything Rhianna said is true. The exorcisms and being forced to eat things. They shut me in a room and didn't let me leave until they said so. It was hours. I didn't understand why they were doing it. I couldn't call the police because they took my mobile phone off me.
Many of the girls who have since come forth are graduates, or left of their own choice. Not everybody "failed" the program, but what they're saying it true, so they feel it's important to come out in support of them.
If THAT was the CEO of Mercy Ministries, why on earth wouldn't he know the stats of Mercy? So many girls have spoken out about how they were abused at Mercy Ministries, like over 25, and they are all saying similar things, and telling of how many OTHER girls were kicked out or left Mercy. Mercy "graduates" are speaking out against what Mercy have been doing too. Thank goodness this cult has been exposed for what it really is.
I am so glad the truth has all come out. When I saw this on TV and read the article I was so relieved because for a long time I believed it was just me that they abused. I didn't think anyone would believe me if I told them what happened. But the truth really does set us free, and the Mercy Ministries Queensland home is being shut down. The other MM houses will follow if they don't change their ways and stop abusing girls. Almost everything that Peter guy in the video said was untrue
i was at MM in sydney and it was hell! I totally believe all these girls who are speaking out! Shivers when the articles came out. mercy staff were like, we don't cast demons out, but when questioned about the demonic oppression part of the counselling folder were quick to change the subject and move on. There all a bunch of wack jobs! Not even qualified!
all that this girl has said is crap. and she knows. you try talking to the girls that walk out of mercy a completerly different person.. and not dead! healed and set free. these girls that are slandering mercy... they know the truth of the program, and that truth is gonna set them free!
This sounds pretty identical to Esther House in Perth, which too is a Christian organisation. Which is a shame because there are some great Christian services out there. As a social worker I find it infuriating that these type of programs are out there working with very vulnerable and broken people who are being offered services which are unethical, unprofessional and damaging. When programs such as this hide behind the christianity cloak they become somewhat untouchable and this is scary...
Point of Grace and other artists have linked themselves to Mercy Ministries in the US. I haven't seen them take a step backwards infact here in the US, I've only heard good things about this ministry.
Yeah, there was only pro-Mercy propaganda here too until several of their ex residents spoke out about Mercy Ministries style of 'treatment' and how the staff were unqualified to be treating them.
Lots of Christian churches were promoting Mercy Ministries - not just Hillsong - some Christian artists too. It's nice how Hillsong gets blamed for everything!
I agree that anyone who has promoted this organisation needs to take responsibility for their part in potentially causing a young woman to go there, however I will say that Hillsong have brought the 'link' with Mercy upon themselves. When Mercy was applauded (by those who are ignorant to their abusive practices) Hillsong take the credit.
When Hillsong are put under scrutiny for not doing enough to help the community with all of their donations, they claim they partners with Mercy (it's even on their website.) But when Mercy's abuse is revealed, Hillsong take a step back publicly and claim they are not really involved. It's not very honest.
Hi there thanks for wrtting me back(onelulubell). Yes I know that I need to go to mercy and i am going to try as hard as i can to stay there and not give up. If you say Faith is the one to go to then i guess your right lol. I bet I will get very home sick and want to go home but im not going to let that stop my chance of getting the help i need at mercy. My real Name is Courtney. If you have a myspace or a facebook w could talk a little more if you want. Thanks
Write it down, they will ask you to write down names to people you want to recieve mail or phone calls from & those you don't.If you get home sick, don't leave,go to staff.I believe Faith is a night staff member. She is wacky cool! She sings beautifully too.Don't bring any secular things, they will take them and send them home or give them back at the end of your stay. Do bring money for outings on fridays, you will need dresses and skirts for Sundays. Not allowed to wear anything else.
Nitronigro09 I am a grad from the Nashville home.Don't give up or change your mind about going.I remember when I was accepted 2 weeks prior to going,it was hard because I just wanted to rest & feel some kind of security in my life. The kitchen is locked and I think the fridge is too, they have recently updated the home. What is your real name so I may write you.Mine is Rebecca Barnes.

Paula Kirpatrick prophesied over me and laid hands over me. She didn't say I had a demon in me or cated one out. She was there to heal us through the power of God, to prayover us. She told me a lot of things that no one would have known. She too helped me. we called her Gabbi in our home. She had no where to stay and ready to graduate, but had no money or job, so they set her up in the new home till she went to Hillsong college.
This video is about the Australian Mercy Ministries, you are in the USA. At Mercy Ministries in Australia they do exorcisms on the young women. They have also done them on girls in Nashville USA. An exoricism is the casting out of demons/spirits.
I know one of the the Nashville Austraian grads who lived in the first ausie home. She had no where to stay till she went off to college. I'm sure she would of said something. Miss nitronigro09 When you get to the Nashville home. I want to look you up, I live here. You are in great hands and you will be blessed. Katiepower walk in Love, & stop bad mouthing a ministry who has set 100's of girls be set free. I am one of them. It's a Choice! I'm At My Post Nancy! -Rebecca Nov.16th2001
I'm curious about the Nashville grad you mention, and also why she lived in the Australian home if she graduated in Nashville. Did she go to stay there afterwards? Can you PM me with her name/more specific dates if you think she will not mind because I was there with about 5 of the Aussie girls.
Hi onelulubell, the young women who have been in Mercy are Christians, walking in love, speaking the truth about an orgaisation that is abusing young women in the name of Jesus. The behaviour of Mercy Ministries is disgraceful. These young women have my full support, and I know a couple of them personally. I have seen how Mercy Ministries' abuse affected them. They have the full support of their church families in speaking out against the abuse also. Their motivation is to save other young women
onelulubell perhaps you should stop casting judgement on that which you do not understand. These brave young women are saving others from experiencing abuse from Mercy Ministries, and allowing them to seek support from real Christians and treatment from qualified staff, at places where they will not be abused. THAT is LOVE.
I am absolutely furious at the apparent alligations against Mercy. Mercy is NOT a cult. I am a graduate of the Nashville home and the only locked doors where the the front/back doors, the meds closet, the contraband closet where you check out/in your razors during bath times, and the kitchen (E.D. girls) at night. I couldn't help but laugh at this girl from Australia who made these false alligations. I know all the grads who graduated from the Nashville home who came from Australia.
Yeah, I was there with several Australian residents as well, and I agree that there weren't locks on our doors, but if you were there when I was you also know that they did "cast out demons," etc. And that the rules were not followed consistently, the ED residents were not given specific meal plans (and v. little supervision before, during and after meals/snacks.) Nor were the counselors trained in any kind of psychology field, etc.
Also, if the Aussie girls are being honest they will have to admit that 1.Paula Kilpatrick came to Mercy and "cast demons" out of people's bodies. She was there for that specific purpose. 2. A girl jumped from the balcony and broke bones in her back. They will be straight up lying to deny those things.
In the Australian homes there are locks. Nothing was said about the USA homes, although some residents have been speaking out about mistreatment there also. You have to remember that these young women were in the AUSTRALIAN Mercy Ministries.
Hi there its me again. I already told you That i am leaving on the 29th to mercy in nashvill which is in like a week and a half. I think you said you are a grad from there and I was just wondering if you had any advise for me before going? I diddnt know that they lock up the kitchen at night, is that to prevent Ed girls from going in there and binging or ect..? and yes I know mercy is Not a cult and i never thought it was lol. Hope your having a great day
Yes, at night the kitchen is locked, but I don't consider that a bad thing. This helps the ED girls makes sense that other girls wouldn't be getting up to eat in the middle of the night. They offer 3 snacks and one is around 8-830, so there is plenty of food. I never said they wouldn't. In fact, I would be concerned if they didn't lock the kitchen at night.
However, I repeatedly asked for help w/food choices/for staff to check my plate. They didn't, nor did I see a dietitian personally. The dietitian on staff made a basic plan for the entire home, but I wasn't given a meal plan & was told only to "let the Lord guide my food choices." If it were that easy I could've done it at home! Instead of creating a specific meal plan, they took away a nutrition book that my previous treatment team recommended, which focused on food exchanges & not calories.
It's unsafe for ED girls who have lost sight of normal food portions and/or are afraid of all the foods offered and those who must gain lots of weight and/or have been vomiting a lot. In both of those cases there could be serious consequences like cardiac arrest. Some girls had to have doctor's permission to even get on a plane to go there b/c of the stress it put on their bodies. They shouldn't just eat whatever is in front of them haphazardly.
Im sorry for how you were treated and i dont know why they would have treated you that way, especially since you were there for help, and to get closer to god. I know some girls, well talk to some girls who have graduated the program and said they loved it and would give anything to go back and that the staff were loving and so careing. so thats what im expecting. But yes i will be aware and i dont keep secerets from my parents, unless I really have to. Hope your doing ok now
There is actually a girl who has been in the Nashville home who posts here sometimes. I'll direct her to this thread.
I'm glad you're going in with your eyes open to the wrong things that Mercy has done in the past. I think that will make a huge difference. I really hope it works out for you!
I am the former resident katie mentioned. I'm not sure what to say to you other than what we are saying is true. Just follow your gut instincts and go home if you feel like things are not right, and no matter what they say, it is not because you don't have enough faith. If you feel what they are doing is wrong, then follow your heart. Your friends, family, etc. are not being "manipulated by the devil" if they question the program. Don't cut them off b/c they love you.
cont: Also, the rules were followed v. inconsistently. Lots of favoritism, it's not the way a program should be run. For example, one girl went on leave, relapsed(binge/purge) & still graduated two weeks later. Is it fair to kick somebody out b/c they smoked on break? Legit programs have set procedures for reprimanding patients/residents. "Guidance from the Holy Spirit" isn't an excuse. It's your right to question how you & others are treated if you see things that are unfair/illegal.
All I know is that I leave in about two weeks to the Nashvill mercy home and I think its going to be great, its going to be a way different experience then any other treatmnet center/program I have ever been to and I think I will get a lot out of mercy and start to feel better about myself. I dont want anything negative getting inbetween me and getting the help i want to get better. thanks and I hope all of you dont feel mercy is a bad place because its not, they just want to help :0)
I think it's best to let people judge for themselves. I have never told a girl not to go to Mercy. The message I want to get across is 'be aware of what you are getting into.' I don't know anyone who has recently been to the USA home in Nashville, so I have no idea if they are doing things differently to how they used to before the media reports. I hope so for everyone's sakes. I honestly do wish you the very best though, God is the healer, never forget that. Do keep your eyes open re staff.

Keep in contact with your family (if its safe to do so) and don't fall for it when Mercy staff start telling you to keep things a secret. That was one of my mistakes. Also, be aware of how qualified or unqualified staff are, because Mercy were not honest about that in the Australian homes. Don't let them do things you're uncomfortable with. But most of all go your hardest and press into God. Make sure it is Him you are listening to over and above anyone else. I wish you the best of luck.
Mental illness is REAL and people need help MEDICALLY from it....you people talking down about obviously have had nobody in your family suffer from it OR have not suffer from it yourself.....
Wake up America..your suicide rates among youth have risen drastically....get off the fact that mental problems are "no big deal"
I don't get what you're saying. People in the US do know that mental illness is serious. These girls and woman are not getting real treatment. They are being neglected, and their illnesses are being dismissed as merely spiritual are caused by "demonic oppression".
I think jnsferris thought you were saying the opposite. But as an American, I can say that we do take these problems very seriously, whether or not we have figured out how to successfully treat them or not. But Mercy Ministries is not a good place to help them. (As we agree, it seems.)
mental hospital and let them strap you down to a bed or tell you that for the rest of your life you will fight this. I'd give God the try. I was once ignorant to it but I just praise God my eyes were open in this crazy world today. Kids need something better to go to. I pray people will realize how amazing this program is and that this girl is healed from whatever has caused her to go into the program or made her mad.
God is amazing, you are right there! The girl in the video is not simply 'mad.' She was abused at the hands of Mercy Ministries and has spoken out to warn other girls about the mistreatment and abuse that they could be at risk of if they go to such an organisation. There is no need to strap anyone down lol! Just a need for young women to be warned about organisations who are doing the wrong thing ethically and financially!
I know much about the program in the US. I Know that it has set many girls free from addictions. and I know many of them that have no complaints. I pray that whatever is going in Autralia lines up with the word of God. However I still disagree that you have to have a psycologist or professional help for problems that God sets you free from. The devil comes to still kill and destroy but Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly John 10:10. God Bless
In Australia, Mercy Ministries advertise that they give medical and psychiatric care to the young ladies in their programs, but in reality the staff who "care" for the girls are not qualified in that way.
free will. I think What Mercy ministries is doing is awesome plus its free of charge. Which compared to thousands of dollars I would think they are very sincere. I think this person got mad and offended by some people at the program. Where you offended and them or just mad at God. I'm sure some of the accusations were blown way out of purportion. How horrible teaching kids the word of God and that they can be set free though his word and what he did on the cross. Pretty bad or you could go to a
Mercy Ministries is not free of charge at all. I was at Mercy Ministries and paid thousands to be there. They take the centrelink payments of girls in the program. (that is social security to you.) I see you are in the USA. This video is obviously about Mercy Ministries in AUSTRALIA and the way it is run, as well as the mistreatment of girls by staff.
I'm on social security/disability, and I was able to keep all of my benefits. None of it went to MM. However, I had to inform SS that I was living at Mercy, and that affected my payments because I din't pay for food/rent/etc. So I got a bit less each month. I'm not sure why Australia asks for Centrelink payments...the government rules are different over there. But I saw that they do specify that on their website, so it shouldn't be a surprise.
They do say it if you look in the FAQ on their website now, but it wasn't always the case. Also, their advertising materials they give to the public (asking for more money, more donations) specifically states that the program is free and the girls are not charged to be there. They have also stated they don't receive government funding. It's very dodgy and not honest of them at all.
I am a former resident from the US and what they are saying is true. It is not because somebody got mad at people in the program, although I imagine they could have with good reason. They make false claims about their program being free of charge and blame psychiatric illness on demons that must be "cast out" of the girls.
OK. I think this is the stupidiest most ignorant video I"ve seen it makes absolutly no sense. Coming from some one who has been there done the whole psyciatric thing spent lots of money on drug after drug nothing. It never made me any better I just needed to be set free. So I got set free through God's word. and his promises for me I learned there was a God which was what I need to be healed. I had to renew my mind. Sure if you don't want to be belive in God you don't have have to God give you
The girl in the video is a Christian. Faith was not the issue. The issue was abuse and false advertising. The staff were unqualified. Did you watch the video at all?
Hillsong has no connection to this.
Just FYI.

Hillsong has been like this since the day it started. I have known this since I was a young man. Of course no one listens do they. Especially christians because its an attack on their religion. Oh well, if its your religion that is to blame then do something about it.

I'd be careful. Mercy Ministries has been falsely flagging videos critical of Mercy as copyright infringement. Even interviews with Mercy-Survivors. One guy had his account taken down.

The way MM treat girls isn't Christian though. You can't be a real Christian and also support abuse that MM does to girls.

Not everybody "failed" the program, but what they're saying it true, so they feel it's important to come out in support of them.
iamundinespragg 3 years ago 13
Wow get your facts straight next time shonnybeag. You're an idiot.
gothchick87 3 years ago 7
If THAT was the CEO of Mercy Ministries, why on earth wouldn't he know the stats of Mercy? So many girls have spoken out about how they were abused at Mercy Ministries, like over 25, and they are all saying similar things, and telling of how many OTHER girls were kicked out or left Mercy. Mercy "graduates" are speaking out against what Mercy have been doing too. Thank goodness this cult has been exposed for what it really is.
kmcdani5 3 years ago 8
I am so glad the truth has all come out. When I saw this on TV and read the article I was so relieved because for a long time I believed it was just me that they abused. I didn't think anyone would believe me if I told them what happened. But the truth really does set us free, and the Mercy Ministries Queensland home is being shut down. The other MM houses will follow if they don't change their ways and stop abusing girls. Almost everything that Peter guy in the video said was untrue
kmcdani5 3 years ago 7
i was at MM in sydney and it was hell! I totally believe all these girls who are speaking out! Shivers when the articles came out. mercy staff were like, we don't cast demons out, but when questioned about the demonic oppression part of the counselling folder were quick to change the subject and move on. There all a bunch of wack jobs! Not even qualified!

Averebely 3 years ago
Yeah, there was only pro-Mercy propaganda here too until several of their ex residents spoke out about Mercy Ministries style of 'treatment' and how the staff were unqualified to be treating them.
katieflowerpower 3 years ago 3
Lots of Christian churches were promoting Mercy Ministries - not just Hillsong - some Christian artists too. It's nice how Hillsong gets blamed for everything!
Averebely 3 years ago
I agree that anyone who has promoted this organisation needs to take responsibility for their part in potentially causing a young woman to go there, however I will say that Hillsong have brought the 'link' with Mercy upon themselves. When Mercy was applauded (by those who are ignorant to their abusive practices) Hillsong take the credit.
katieflowerpower 3 years ago 4

Paula Kirpatrick prophesied over me and laid hands over me. She didn't say I had a demon in me or cated one out. She was there to heal us through the power of God, to prayover us. She told me a lot of things that no one would have known. She too helped me. we called her Gabbi in our home. She had no where to stay and ready to graduate, but had no money or job, so they set her up in the new home till she went to Hillsong college.
onelulubell 3 years ago
This video is about the Australian Mercy Ministries, you are in the USA. At Mercy Ministries in Australia they do exorcisms on the young women. They have also done them on girls in Nashville USA. An exoricism is the casting out of demons/spirits.
katieflowerpower 3 years ago
I know one of the the Nashville Austraian grads who lived in the first ausie home. She had no where to stay till she went off to college. I'm sure she would of said something. I'm curious about the Nashville grad you mention, and also why she lived in the Australian home if she graduated in Nashville. Did she go to stay there afterwards? Can you PM me with her name/more specific dates if you think she will not mind because I was there with about 5 of the Aussie girls.
iamundinespragg 3 years ago 3
Hi onelulubell, the young women who have been in Mercy are Christians, walking in love, speaking the truth about an orgaisation that is abusing young women in the name of Jesus. The behaviour of Mercy Ministries is disgraceful. These young women have my full support, and I know a couple of them personally. I have seen how Mercy Ministries' abuse affected them. They have the full support of their church families in speaking out against the abuse also. Their motivation is to save other young women
katieflowerpower 3 years ago
onelulubell perhaps you should stop casting judgement on that which you do not understand. These brave young women are saving others from experiencing abuse from Mercy Ministries, and allowing them to seek support from real Christians and treatment from qualified staff, at places where they will not be abused. THAT is LOVE.
katieflowerpower 3 years ago
I am absolutely furious at the apparent alligations against Mercy. Mercy is NOT a cult. I am a graduate of the Nashville home and the only locked doors where the the front/back doors, the meds closet, the contraband closet where you check out/in your razors during bath times, and the kitchen (E.D. girls) at night. I couldn't help but laugh at this girl from Australia who made these false alligations. I know all the grads who graduated from the Nashville home who came from Australia.
onelulubell 3 years ago
Yeah, I was there with several Australian residents as well, and I agree that there weren't locks on our doors, but if you were there when I was you also know that they did "cast out demons," etc. And that the rules were not followed consistently, the ED residents were not given specific meal plans (and v. little supervision before, during and after meals/snacks.) Nor were the counselors trained in any kind of psychology field, etc.
iamundinespragg 3 years ago 3
Also, if the Aussie girls are being honest they will have to admit that 1.Paula Kilpatrick came to Mercy and "cast demons" out of people's bodies. She was there for that specific purpose. 2. A girl jumped from the balcony and broke bones in her back. They will be straight up lying to deny those things.
iamundinespragg 3 years ago 3
In the Australian homes there are locks. Nothing was said about the USA homes, although some residents have been speaking out about mistreatment there also. You have to remember that these young women were in the AUSTRALIAN Mercy Ministries.
katieflowerpower 3 years ago
Hi there its me again. I already told you That i am leaving on the 29th to mercy in nashvill which is in like a week and a half. I think you said you are a grad from there and I was just wondering if you had any advise for me before going? I diddnt know that they lock up the kitchen at night, is that to prevent Ed girls from going in there and binging or ect..? and yes I know mercy is Not a cult and i never thought it was lol. Hope your having a great day
Nitronigro09 3 years ago
Yes, at night the kitchen is locked, but I don't consider that a bad thing. This helps the ED girls makes sense that other girls wouldn't be getting up to eat in the middle of the night. They offer 3 snacks and one is around 8-830, so there is plenty of food. I never said they wouldn't. In fact, I would be concerned if they didn't lock the kitchen at night.
iamundinespragg 3 years ago
However, I repeatedly asked for help w/food choices/for staff to check my plate. They didn't, nor did I see a dietitian personally. The dietitian on staff made a basic plan for the entire home, but I wasn't given a meal plan & was told only to "let the Lord guide my food choices." If it were that easy I could've done it at home! Instead of creating a specific meal plan, they took away a nutrition book that my previous treatment team recommended, which focused on food exchanges & not calories.
iamundinespragg 3 years ago
It's unsafe for ED girls who have lost sight of normal food portions and/or are afraid of all the foods offered and those who must gain lots of weight and/or have been vomiting a lot. In both of those cases there could be serious consequences like cardiac arrest. Some girls had to have doctor's permission to even get on a plane to go there b/c of the stress it put on their bodies. They shouldn't just eat whatever is in front of them haphazardly.
iamundinespragg 3 years ago
Im sorry for how you were treated and i dont know why they would have treated you that way, especially since you were there for help, and to get closer to god. I know some girls, well talk to some girls who have graduated the program and said they loved it and would give anything to go back and that the staff were loving and so careing. so thats what im expecting. But yes i will be aware and i dont keep secerets from my parents, unless I really have to. Hope your doing ok now
Nitronigro09 3 years ago
There is actually a girl who has been in the Nashville home who posts here sometimes. I'll direct her to this thread.
I'm glad you're going in with your eyes open to the wrong things that Mercy has done in the past. I think that will make a huge difference. I really hope it works out for you!
katieflowerpower 3 years ago
I am the former resident katie mentioned. I'm not sure what to say to you other than what we are saying is true. Just follow your gut instincts and go home if you feel like things are not right, and no matter what they say, it is not because you don't have enough faith. If you feel what they are doing is wrong, then follow your heart. Your friends, family, etc. are not being "manipulated by the devil" if they question the program. Don't cut them off b/c they love you.
iamundinespragg 3 years ago
cont: Also, the rules were followed v. inconsistently. It's your right to question how you & others are treated if you see things that are unfair/illegal.
iamundinespragg 3 years ago

I don't get what you're saying. People in the US do know that mental illness is serious. These girls and woman are not getting real treatment. They are being neglected, and their illnesses are being dismissed as merely spiritual are caused by "demonic oppression".

You are right. They aren't getting real help. Thats what I said. Where is the argument here?

JULZ927 3 years ago
God is amazing, you are right there! The girl in the video is not simply 'mad.' She was abused at the hands of Mercy Ministries and has spoken out to warn other girls about the mistreatment and abuse that they could be at risk of if they go to such an organisation. There is no need to strap anyone down lol! Just a need for young women to be warned about organisations who are doing the wrong thing ethically and financially!
freeatlastnow 3 years ago
I know much about the program in the US. I Know that it has set many girls free from addictions. and I know many of them that have no complaints. I pray that whatever is going in Autralia lines up with the word of God. However I still disagree that you have to have a psycologist or professional help for problems that God sets you free from. The devil comes to still kill and destroy but Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly John 10:10. God Bless
JULZ927 3 years ago
In Australia, Mercy Ministries advertise that they give medical and psychiatric care to the young ladies in their programs, but in reality the staff who "care" for the girls are not qualified in that way.
freeatlastnow 3 years ago
Pretty bad or you could go to a
JULZ927 3 years ago
Mercy Ministries is not free of charge at all. I was at Mercy Ministries and paid thousands to be there. They take the centrelink payments of girls in the program. (that is social security to you.) I see you are in the USA. This video is obviously about Mercy Ministries in AUSTRALIA and the way it is run, as well as the mistreatment of girls by staff.
freeatlastnow 3 years ago
I'm on social security/disability, and I was able to keep all of my benefits. None of it went to MM. However, I had to inform SS that I was living at Mercy, and that affected my payments because I din't pay for food/rent/etc. So I got a bit less each month. I'm not sure why Australia asks for Centrelink payments...the government rules are different over there. But I saw that they do specify that on their website, so it shouldn't be a surprise.
apugirl4747 3 years ago
They do say it if you look in the FAQ on their website now, but it wasn't always the case. Also, their advertising materials they give to the public (asking for more money, more donations) specifically states that the program is free and the girls are not charged to be there. They have also stated they don't receive government funding. It's very dodgy and not honest of them at all.
katieflowerpower 3 years ago
@freeatlastnow and the morons at mercy AUSTRALIA had NO right to take your centrelink payments. Nancy got so pissed when i told her they were.
semicharmed00 1 year ago

Sure if you don't want to be belive in God you don't have have to God give you
JULZ927 3 years ago
The girl in the video is a Christian. Faith was not the issue. The issue was abuse and false advertising. The staff were unqualified. Did you watch the video at all?
