When you tromp the gas pedal on a car with 2 4-barrel carburetors (Dual quads), the 4 secondary barrels open and the carburetors REALLY "drink" in some BEAUCOUP amount of fuel!
This song is nirvana for gear heads like me and those who lived the car culture of the sixties. Moral of the story? Ram inducted 413 Dart will take you off the line,... but fuel injection will always catch and win out in the end even if the old racing maxim goes, Injection is nice, but I'd rather be blown.

Different song today it happened on a strip that I had to buy two wannabe muscle cars sittin side by side a flex fuel charger and a W6 revvin up their engines and we can't hear a thing declinin' numbers at an even rate at the count of one we both accelerate the W6 is Heavy and the tires just wont spin but the charger just won't get rolling the ugly ass charger winding out it AUTO trans but the overcompensating W6 is finally in Drive to get the traction i got no problem this car weighs too much!
The 413 against a Sting Ray was sort of a miss-match but a great song. It really played on a young guys imagination.Those were the days,gasoline .25/ gallon, a good used car for a few hundred bucks and no real worries!

My first car was a beautiful 61 Galaxy Sunliner Convertible with a 352. It was all original still in 1968 when my dad gave it to me! It had been our family car for years. I loved that car and would put the top down, radio blasting and gather up my girlfriends and we went cruising. Gas was .26 gal. What a blast!
@horsenaround This isn't great logic. Gas might have been .26 a gallon, but most people were probably making 2 dollars an hour. Gas is still cheaper now in comparison to back then.

The Chrysler 413 was the top engine you could get in a Plymouth or Super Stock
Dodge thru 1962. After that the 426 Hemi came out and was the mightiest Chrysler engine until the potent 440 six-pack came out in 1966. It had less horsepower than the 426 but was much more practical and reliable. The 426 was built more for racing like NASCAR.

Ohio needs to change its' laws. Here a fifteen and a half year old can get his temporary driver's license. That means, depending on the person's birthday, we could have 15 year olds on the road ! That is way too young to be driving. What moron lawmaker in Ohio made up THAT law ?????

Every state is different, my cousin lives in New Jersey, and there I believe the driving age starts at 17. Driver's ed has stopped here for insurance reasons (I mean in the High Schools.) @kazimiria No, the old 327 fuelies had Rochester mechanical injection, a plumber's nightmare. No laptop tuning for that package. The only area where the fuel injection was better than the carburated 327 was that it didn't crap out in turns. But a 413 Ram Induction Dodge certainly had carburators, dual 4-barrels.

In 1966 they got a GTO.... 3 duces, 389Ci, a big honkin' muscle car. That thing would swalk the tires in 4th gear. I never felt anything to be that ominous for the rest of my life. So much power. The Beach Boys would be proud. In 1968 they got a new one....400ci.....4 barrel. Not a move upwards. Miss that 389.
Reminds me of my first car. '63 EH Holden. 179 HP, extractors, twin throat X2 carby, Yella Terra Head and a mild cam. 15 second quarter mile, with a three on the tree.

Their was an article i read several years ago where they recreated this race these guys are sing'in about. 3 outta 3 races that vette got whomped real good. Your correct, they are heading the right direction, the GTO and Charger should have never been built, I think the Ford Mustang pushed Mopar to move in the correct direction with the Challenger. I would like to see GM do the right thing with a a version of the 70 Chevelle SS, again that will be my next car. I told you earlier I do like the the old chev's. I am not sure how well the Challenger drives, the wife is driving it now to work and I am drivin her Honda now.
Nuff Said, I was not impressed with the Charger, wanted to go back to the Mustangs. I was very impressed with the new Vette, just alittle out of my price range. I ended up buying a 2010 Challenger R/T, had to get one and park it next to my 70 Challenger. You may not believe this but my next old car I want to get before I retire is a 70 Chevelle SS 396. Almost bought a new one in 1970 but the draft had other plans for me, you keep loving the bow ties, I myself just like all muscle cars.

Hot Rod magazine did a retro test not too long ago using a factory Dodge 413 and a factory equipped FI 63 Corvette. The Dodge beat the Corvette 6 out of 6 times. I love old Corvette's but, the Dodge was faster. It is what it is!

funny, my 73 f100 has a fuelie 302, just your basic upgrades, mass air, slight bore and stroke. kicking the fun out of the ass rammers. i wont even dignify the obama motor corps by mentioning them. truth is though at the end of the day, im glad to be an american and im proud that we build fords and dodges. we as a people have made very special cars that the idea is so great that it will last a a few centuries. we invented muscle and by the looks of things, we are reinventing it once again.
This song was charted in the top 20 in early June '63 and I just bought a beautiful 1962 Corvette. Wasn't fast though. I met the first Dodge and learned that lesson. But it was a Corvette and very cool.

I have a 62 Dodge Polara 500 (pretty much a glorified Dart) that I'm making a Max Wedge Clone out of. My desire to build this car came out of listening to that song. This song was based on a race the Jardine brought Wilson to watch. The Dodge had a cracked coil and he shut it off at the top because it was frapping out.
The race was recreated many times in magazines with the same result every time.

The Dodge eat the Corvettes EASILY back then every week at your local tract or street event. The cops drove them too. With a 383 c.i. and a four barrel carb these things would top 140 mph and it didn't take long. They DOMINATED drag racing for YEARS. When a Ford vs Chevy guy was boosting who could take WHO...they'd leave pretty quick if a guy driving an Auto trans, 383ci walked up. Truth IS: You didn't need a 426 Hemi SS Dodge, just a 383 with a 4 barrel.

@1959hogryder yeah, the Chevrolet fuel injection was ahead of its time. To bad it was so picky to get set right. If they had of had computer controlled FI it would have been ALL over for any other engine!

@schumickthegreat Just saying....In my experience, from the late 1960's, I had a friend that his mom was my piano teacher, and they got a new car every two years. In 1966 they got a GTO.... 3 duces, 389Ci, a big honkin' muscle car. That thing would swalk the tires in 4th gear. I never felt anything to be that ominous for the rest of my life. So much power. The Beach Boys would be proud. In 1968 they got a new one....400ci.....4 barrel. Not a move upwards. Miss that 389.

Reminds me of my first car. '63 EH Holden. 179 HP, extractors, twin throat X2 carby, Yella Terra Head and a mild cam. 15 second quarter mile, with a three on the tree.

Their was an article i read several years ago where they recreated this race these guys are sing'in about. 3 outta 3 races that vette got whomped real good. I think the vette probably mighta had a chance with slicks and a 427-435 Special under the hood. Otherwise forget it. Long live Classic American Muscle Cars.

Your correct, they are heading the right direction, the GTO and Charger should have never been built, I think the Ford Mustang pushed Mopar to move in the correct direction with the Challenger. I would like to see GM do the right thing with a a version of the 70 Chevelle SS, again that will be my next car. I told you earlier I do like the the old chev's. I am not sure how well the Challenger drives, the wife is driving it now to work and I am drivin her Honda now.

Nuff Said, I was not impressed with the Charger, wanted to go back to the Mustangs. I was very impressed with the new Vette, just alittle out of my price range. I ended up buying a 2010 Challenger R/T, had to get one and park it next to my 70 Challenger. You may not believe this but my next old car I want to get before I retire is a 70 Chevelle SS 396. Almost bought a new one in 1970 but the draft had other plans for me, you keep loving the bow ties, I myself just like all muscle cars.

Hot Rod magazine did a retro test not too long ago using a factory Dodge 413 and a factory equipped FI 63 Corvette. The Dodge beat the Corvette 6 out of 6 times. I love old Corvette's but, the Dodge was faster. It is what it is!

As near as I can tell if these cars are brand new, the year is 1962. The day a 327 Corvette, beats a super stock 413 dodge.......I'll kiss somebody's ass! In 1962 The 413 dodge was the baddest engine on the planet! In 1963 Mopar came out with their bad ass, 426 max wedge. The only thing that could come close was Ford 427 and Pontiac 421 super duty! Chevy took their weak ass boat anchor 427 truck engine and went home!!!

If Chevy, and (GM) were doing so great, why did they pull out of super stocks? Was it because they were winning on Sunday, and selling on Monday? On the rare occasion a Chevy wins, Chevy guys brag the loudest! I mostly hear them squeal, and protest ,and make excuses, when they loose! Bow Tie Bunnies are a breed of their own, I'll never understand them!

funny, my 73 f100 has a fuelie 302, just your basic upgrades, mass air, slight bore and stroke. kicking the fun out of the ass rammers. i wont even dignify the obama motor corps by mentioning them. truth is though at the end of the day, im glad to be an american and im proud that we build fords and dodges. we as a people have made very special cars that the idea is so great that it will last a a few centuries. we invented muscle and by the looks of things, we are reinventing it once again.

This song was charted in the top 20 in early June '63 and I just bought a beautiful 1962 Corvette. Wasn't fast though. I met the first Dodge and learned that lesson. But it was a Corvette and very cool.

This was the reverse side of the "Surfin USA" 45 RPM single. My brother owned the record back in the day, and I practically wore this song out when I was, like, 6 years old. I have a 62 Dodge Polara 500 (pretty much a glorified Dart) that I'm making a Max Wedge Clone out of. My desire to build this car came out of listening to that song. And yes, in numerous re-do's of the race in the song, the 413 Max Wedge Mopar kicked ass on the Vette. SUPER STOCK DODGE!!!!!!!

A superstock dodge was a 413 with a 12:1 or more compression stock. Think little old lady from pasadena.
This song was based on a race the Jardine brought Wilson to watch. The Dodge had a cracked coil and he shut it off at the top because it was frapping out.
The race was recreated many times in magazines with the same result every time.

The Dodge eat the Corvettes EASILY back then every week at your local tract or street event. The cops drove them too. With a 383 c.i. and a four barrel carb these things would top 140 mph and it didn't take long. They DOMINATED drag racing for YEARS. When a Ford vs Chevy guy was boosting who could take WHO...they'd leave pretty quick if a guy driving an Auto trans, 383ci walked up. Truth IS: You didn't need a 426 Hemi SS Dodge, just a 383 with a 4 barrel.
