Isn't there something like "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"? The song Friday isn't brilliance. It won't have historical/cultural significance as true brilliance has/had such as Shakespeare or Star Wars. No way. I think another part of brilliance is the lasting effect a piece has on society/culture/history even if it's only a (major) subculture in stead of the entire culture. A very contemporary "work of art" would then be Harry Potter. Time will tell if that's brilliant or not.
