wouldnt it be more beneficial to have this working in reverse? needing a belt to support the cords when you have the rigid steel frame and the potential to have the coil end attached to the frame and the metal end attached to the actuated platform makes this setup seem superfluous.

Can you please give some information as to how it is constructed and how it works?
It appears to me to be an inside-out solenoid, yes?
