The Fragile is my favorite album, and this and the original "The Frail" prove that Reznor has great compositional skill as well as a mastery of technology.
My favorite NIN's album is "The Fragile". I bought this only a couple of years ago. When I heard this version I felt an overwhelming feeling. I don't try to be funny but I even tought I would shit my pants with so much emotion. I can play this to all kind of people of all kind of places and even from diferent eras and belive me, everyone will feel something.
Can anyone here point me to some songs similar to this one? I particularly enjoy the calm, contrasting with the creaks and whirs, and often listen to this with RainyMood in the background to add that extra layer.
@Albin0gh0st More or less all of the Still album by NIN is a good place to start. Calm, somber, really cool. Kind of like Ghosts if it was meant to be calm. Songs to start with are "Adrift and at Peace", "Leaving Hope" and "The Persistence of Loss."
As for other artists, give The Flashbulb a listen. He's a really eclectic guy who does everything from classical pieces to Breakcore, and he's probably one of my all time favorites. Not much of his stuff is on Youtube, so look around.
@Albin0gh0st You can check artists like Johann Johannsson, Olafur Arnalds, Amiina, Sopor Aeternus and the ensemble of Shadows, Bleeding Heart Narrative, Layland Kirby...
the strings were really the only part i like, it just sounds sloppy with the random squeaks and creaks. Although i wont deny thats why some people like it
@fashionista16 In my mind, the random creaks sounding against the strings is the juxtaposition of ugly and beauty. Chaos seems appropriate, though, as well.
I heard this once before I knew it was called "things falling apart," but even then I pictured it kinda like the title says. The song's about a guy who's had a real hard life, who can't stand to wake up and face another day. Everything is so important yet none of it really matters anymore. Trapped in a synthetic hell his mind tears apart slowly. Tired, sad and hoping for solace, he wails as he claws at the walls. But it's just another night as he sits in the corner with bloodshot eyes. No love.
There used to be an upload, but NiN record label went through all of youtube and asked them to knock down most of the songs. I thank you for uploading it again, though last time they had a music video with it...kinda music video...still great though.
Oh, no. This isn't mine. This is an official remix, courtesy of Trent Reznor himself. It's from the "Things Falling Apart" album. It was the official companion CD to "The Frail."

the combo of electro and strings is unfathomably epic. if the word epic truely does it justice.

@Boowey116 I think the random squeaks and creaks kind of represent chaos in the midst of peace
