@edannat Actually that wasn't a year prior. Kurt and Mercedes joined the Cheerios in 'The Power of Madonna' which was episode 14 (I think) and he sang the 14 minute Celine Dion Medley in 'Funk' which was the penultimate episode of Season 1 :)

@edannat Actually, Sue holds open auditions early in Season 1, before Kurt ever joined Cheerioes. Kurt and Mercedes later convinced Sue to let them join Cheerioes in the Madonna episode, when they said that together, being gay and black, they make culture. The irony is that Sue said no in the same year Kurt ended up being an important asset.
