  • Man the Solo from 1:55 -2:15 is AKKERMAN ON FIRE!!!!!!!!!! but Jimi hendrix is still the best Akkerman 3rd

  • When festival beer was sold in a bottle, great times!

  • can anyone give me the lyrics?

  • Zat Ceryl Havermans toen nog in de band? Hij is de vader van een vriend van me ;)

  • @naccienac Ja, bij de plaatopname wel, maar tijdens Pink Pop niet meer.

  • /watch?v=Qj1BiKWS0Cc The clip with the original live sound

  • I love everything abt this song, lol Quagmire comes out with a vocal solo at 2:26! and Jan akkerman looks like Liam Neeson, but anyway i need to stop comparing them to things from our culture, their music is too good to be compared to anything from today or any time.. thijs van leer is one the most creative and amazingly talented multi-musician with a sense of humor to have ever lived, jan akkerman plays guitar like no one else, the bass and drums are perfect.. as a band their in theyre own world

  • pierre is baas

  • this is the studio version of the song though...

  • Great footage !!! I have seen I dunno how many guys with hair the same as mine back in the good bad old days & the birds look great Too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fookin hell !! am I really this old...........I look back & wonder where all those fantastic years have gone.......................

  • Jan Akkerman's Focus ( NL )

  • q ambientazo habia ahi, en esa epoca, como gliparia un viaje al pasado....y estar ahi.... pedazo de tema de focus........

  • This is a fine example of how wonderfull youtube is. Surprisingly pleasant mixture of old footage (super 8?) and original music track. Very well done. thank you.

  • Akkerman was way under rated, Hamburger Concerto Rules :)

  • this song is what created my wild snare style playing drums.....follow the guitar with the snare, bass with the bass drum.....it may be overplaying at times but hey it worked here and for Moon :)

    peace

  • Wow!

  • This group Focus was a Dutch group who I saw on a couple of occasions while living in Holland back in the 70's! As you can imagine, the Pink Pop Festival was one of the grandest, but very basic shows being put on in those days! I got to go to 4 of them with the last one being in 78 and although I can't prove it, I know Focus played a surprise appearance there and billed it as their last gig together! This is the best track of Hocus Pocus I've seen on You-tube! Kudos!

    TOT ZIENS!

  • this is pinkpop "72

  • hello hello everybody.... what you hear is the original song.... not the live version... nice video though

  • Yes, I know that's Bert Ruiter from Focus. I'm talking about that attentive guy 2:25

  • wow, he looks like him for sure o.O

  • 2:24 David Gilmour?

  • No, that is Bert Ruiter the bassplayer of Focus

  • I seriously cany get enough of this song, been on youtube fgor 20 miutes, only song ive heard about 7 times. that gutarists is serious sick, and the yodelin man, that serious consentration when doing that with the organ, that guy must be somewhere else to do that and serious talent

  • they also used hocus pocus for a background music in one episode of an american comedy .... my name is earl:P:P

  • Legend for the nowadays Legend

  • I loved this video. It's just like Woodstock only different. Everybody is dressed and well-behaved...Someone has taken this footage and overdubbed it with the original studio version of the song. This is the first Focus song, and to my knowledge, was the only song that got play on American radio. The 1976 (i think) Cincinnatti Reds used it for their theme song. Could be wrong about the year, but just by the fan base this song enlisted, Focus was and is firmly ingrained in our music culture. @@

  • Couldn't it be that Sylvia was also a small hit in America? It would be their 2nd greatest hit i think.

  • this song have a cool drum

  • I cant believe how much cooler people was back in the 70s... I was born in the wrong centuary..

  • Me too man..

  • I totally agree...

  • Same here

  • Yes, I was there, was almost 16 years back than and went with my older brother, otherwise I wasnot allowed to go..lol,

and you are right, it was a swell time, but when I Iook at my son, he has great fun too and listens also to cool music nowadays.......

  • @Dumass88 - That's true. Nowadays everyone tries to be like everyone else.

....assimilated fuckwits, who live in Medialand, and do as the're told.

  • ...And we all know that Noddy Holder from Slade would sometimes dep for thijs van leer and viceversa.... ;)

  • Someone invent a fucking timemachine already... I wish I was there haha.

  • Damn Jan could shred (that first solo). And for that time... Focus never lost focus.

  • wow this is great how did you get the matirial?

  • this is from a pinkpop dvd

  • I agree that the solo at 3.34 is possibly the nicest in Christendom - not sure he could ever have played it twice (Akkerman being Akkerman!) - but wow. Sure it would even meet the approval of JS Bach had he been around!

  • Genial!

  • 3:34 mins in, the apeshit quality of Akkerman solo has not been surpassed, except by Zappa and McLaughlin

  • Meer Pinkpop klassiekers op youtube!

  • Nice video, although I would have been great to have the actual live audio. Anyway cool document of Focus at their prime!

  • focus are the best

  • i want the audio to this concert

  • Mijn moeder was hierbij :D:D:D

  • This is not live version, but it still rocks...And yes, Jan Akkerman is very, very, very underrated guitar player. He played like no one at that time, his live solos just blew me away.

  • JA underrated? I'm not so sure, those into guitar KNOW JA's the man! A talent. But checkout PvdL he is one slick drummer.

  • he is extremely underatted though, and he was so ahead of his time to. playing wise

  • jan akkerman is so under rated. We should be hearing about him just as much as we hear about jimmy page or jeff beck.

  • They are great guitarplayers but Jan Is a fusion of classical ,jazz and rock, with all respect,Jeff and Jimmy are not.

If you're from a small country it was probably harder to get media attention and Jan wasn't a mediaman as we know in the Netherlands

  • jeff beck - greensleves, beck's bolero, goodbye pork pie hat, you mean to tell me he's not classically and jazz influenced?

  • cool i lave focus. I have some old LP´s with them and they are so good :)

  • The solo that Jan starts at 3:34 mins was actually the first solo of the original performance. Great footage nonetheless.

  • I used to have the performance with the original sound on tape, but it is worn out. The sound was heavier and from an Italian bootleg. You can see the microphones in front of the speakers, because it was recorded for radio. Television broadcasted pinkpop for the first time in 1975.

  • heb hem in echt gezien vorig jaar

  • Bedankt voor je compliment, een werelddrummer die pa van jou!

  • Thanks Irene, zo zie ik mijn vader nog eens in zijn volle glorie drummen!

    Echt leuk gedaan, top!!

  • Leer's forehead is so sexy... damn! too much beer.

  • The 2nd guitar solo is fabulous. Only John mcLaughlin & maybe Larry Corryell were playing at such a monster technical level at that time. Jan was a killer guitarist then.

  • Great stuff Irene. Thanks for sharing this bit of history...

  • gaaf

  • I never can't stand how Dutch like to imitate and emulate, but the band is unique!

  • What do you mean by this?

  • Never mind, because the video is unique!

  • Yep, it's the studio version set to the video. It's not hard to tell.

  • What you see is NOT what you hear

  • best song ever !!!!

  • great upload, thanks irenehj
