(I'm looking at buying a set and getting a home studio set up!)

@NouveauNick Thanks man! I have various close mics around the kit but my overheads and room mic are FIRE. I'm using a pair of earthworks SR40s as my overheads and i'm using a telefunken ak47 about 5 feet away from the kit as my room mic. check out earthworks. They make some great microphones! Make sure you invest in some nice mic pres as well :) best of luck to ya!

Ok...so actually I think I put in "earthworks mics" into youtube and THAT'S how I found your vid!

So do you think I could get away with something like:

Two overhead earthworks mics

Good Kick mic (I was going to add the yamaha sub kick too)

Would that work for basic stuff? Or do I absolutely need the close mics? And finally (lol): Mic Pre amps? What's the deal with them?
