  • Whoa! I seen that episode on the Wii's Netflix... THAT special

effects so painfully needed in that entire episode!

  • if only the soldiers could shoot strait

  • This is brilliant mate, well done. I wish the Beeb would do some "remastering" style thing with old Who and give it a repeat run.

  • They should've repeated a whole bunch of classic stories during the gap year! We were without Doctor Who for months lol

  • Although I really like your effects, there is one thing I think is missing: a crackle or burn effect when the shots hit their targets. The laser silently hitting the soldiers coupled with their lazy reaction of slumping to the side is missing a certain dynamic.

Still, light years better than anything I've ever done. :)

  • Well done. I always hated this scene though because the soldiers miss so much. I guess I always blame it on their visors blocking their vision.

At least in the scenes with the Mentiads, you can pretend they're using their psychic powers to make the soldiers miss (as the only time the soldiers kill any of them is in the scene where they lose their powers).

  • Of course, I imagine this scene was probably handled better in Douglas Adams's original script (as in it all happening immediately rather than the long moments it takes for it to happen here), or perhaps the guards were supposed to be notoriously bad shots to comedic effect (but if that was the case, they didn't play that up at all).

At least this scene has one of the best Doctor lines "And now this happens" as he is notorious for despising guns, but then he takes the gun from Kimus.

  • wow thats fantastic why couldnt they have done this back in the 70s?

  • Limited budget for greenscreen effects?

  • @doctorw2

Because they had no computer technology. There was no photoshop, no video toaster, no NOTHING. The personal computer had been out for less than a year and you couldn't edit video on a PC till the Amiga came out in 1985. If you wanted laser blasts you had to either hand animate the blasts via film, or use an in studio chromakey effect.

Still, they came up with some interesting effects considering they had no budget.

  • its a shame u cant make the soliders use tactics lol

  • Are we that desperate to court popularity?

  • that sound effect was from the fission guns on the Ark. thats an idea! make an effect with the Ark fission guns! make a sort of black light static that shoots out.

  • Well done! The music goes well with the scene. I can't wait to see more!

  • This is immense! I like it v. much :D

  • cool

  • Ooh that was lovely.

  • brilliant

  • PERFECT! Not only are the effects brilliant but the music fits like a glove!

  • That is so much better. fantastic dude
