my great grand parents were born in austria,some how migrated to the ukraine,adopted the language ,culture,religious beliefs,were kossacks.grand parents came to america,where i was born,went to ukrainian school here to keep the history,language and culture,ect. for that i paid as i was not accepted by the ukrainians because my ancestory was not on ukraine.soil.I was raised to be ukrainian and that is all that should matter.

And why did so many Ukrainians (but certainly not all), only a few generations ago, abandon the old name for themselves "Rusyn" or other "Rus" names and adopt the new name of "Ukrainians" for themselves?

the fact is the world has not changed much. People dont go exticnt as easy as some would have you beleive. Especially in a land where most people look like each other. It has now been found that all the people of the british islands are genetically almost identicle. They found that germanic tribes had very little influence, the viking having the most. The people themselves dont change much what changes is culture & language. The one exception is the native americans, but that was do to disease.

dude dont get fooled by western propaganda. DNA of scythian as well as sarmatian mummies have been examined. The result is that the DNA marker for both is R1A1. Both Ukrainains and russians have the same DNA marker R1A1. Also western iranians are genetically very simliar to europeans also carring R1A1. the most similar europeans to them are eastern slavs. The world has not changed that much. Go research it. But i mean the studies themselves not interpretations of data filled with propaganda.
