Wow Josh Homme outshadows Bruno in every aspect of guitar playing. His sound, his vibrato and his solos are so unique. Bruno of Kyuss Lives sounds like a Youtube Kid compared to him
@topdogkiller It's the Palo Alto gig in '94. If you watch the hurricane video, the same guy stage dives in that video as in this one. Plus, the lighting is the same.
TO EVERYBODY FIGHTING WITH THAT GUY HE OBVIOUSLY DOESNT WANT TO LISTEN TO US WE LOVE KYUSS AND THATS THAT SO WHO CARES WHAT HE LIKES HE CAN TAKE HIS LOUNGE MUSIC ELSEWHERE WHILE WE CHILL AND BURN ONE UP TO KYUSS
@reb3lscum Garcia, oliveri and Brant Bjork, the line up of Blues for the red sun, without Josh homme of course, I dont know whose gonna fill the lead guitar place.
@Cinemadaptation Bruno Fevery, guitarist for a not well known band from Netherlands called Arsenal. He's pretty average. Not worthy to play in Kyuss IMO.
@Kelmourne At the same time, i would say that you don't need to be a really good or technical player to be in Kyuss, you just have to be stoned, groovy and greasy.
It's amazing how this song could have the power to bring Stevie Ray Vaughn into a pointless discussion from a Mexican hating racist pile of shit... I just want to hear and see the band... KYUSS that is--and I couldn't fucking care less how they compare to Led Zeppelin.
@rdloop I take it you'll be following Beiber with a heavy blunt instrument for the next few days, waiting for the right, quiet moment then? Ha-haaaaaargh!!
Your letting the spirit of Kyuss down with your pointless bickering over the internet guys and gals just smoke a fatty and chill out to this beautiful tune! Thank you ever so much Topdogkiller for uploading this amazing song live!

Garbage. Total GARBAGE. This fucking guitarist is a JOKE, with his out-of-gas technique, his shitty intonation and out-of-key attempts at string bending...GARBAGE. Not to mention the redundancy of his licks. Why would anyone listen to this garbage when they could be listening to SRV? Oh well, like PT Barnum said, "You will never go broke underestimating the taste of the American public."
@67goldtops Then go to a SRV video if you're bitching about it. We don't need to hear your rant about how much you hate Josh. I like SRV but I wouldn't compare him to Josh because he has a different style of playing. You're wasting you're time preaching to a crowd that doesn't care about your opinion.
Bitching & pointing out obvious facts are two different things. As far as "not comparing SRV to Josh because he has a different style of playing..." SO WHAT? They're both just dudes w/ guitars. My mentioning SRV was completely arbitrary & does not change the fact that this guy's mastery of the guitar is comically inept. Oh, one more thing...Try IGNORING people when you claim to "not care about their opinions." It's a bit more effective than engaging them in conversation. Deal?
@67goldtops why do you waste your time listening and commenting to this cheap-o guitar player (which is your point of view not mine) while u could spend the rest of your life with sixstring mastermind SRV??? Doesn´t make any sense...
Would be so nice of you to leave Kyuss to the Kyuss people and care for whatever else - and don´t call Josh a fucking joke, it´s Mr. Homme for you!!!
LOL. You seem to be over-thinking things w/ your "doesn't make any sense comment." Someone directed me to this video. I think the musicianship is garbage. Since then, I've had two different clowns, including YOU, attempt to lecture me for expressing my opinion. You disagree w/ it? Good for you. You like this music? Good for you. So yeah, you bet your ass I'll spend "the rest of my life" w/ SRV. Now, I'll reiterate, as you apparently missed it...Don't care for my opinion? IGNORE IT.
You really understand that no one likes a troll who wastes his time angering people over the internet. It's really sad that he's making a big deal about something by typing it up on his computer. It's not like he's changing the world. Thanks for having my back.
then wtf are you doing on a kyuss video. SRV is a great guitarist but their on obviously different ends of the spectrum. Im guessing your the one fucking idiot who thumbed down this video. When there are 217 people liking something and ONE dislike, maybe your missing something??? Listen to the entire Blues for the Red Sun, and then talk to me.
"I'm guessing YOUR the one fucking idiot who thumbed down this video."
LOL. I love it. The dude who doesn't know the difference between YOU'RE and YOUR is calling someone an idiot. Where else can you find such great entertainment? As for your ATTEMPTED point...No I didn't "thumb down" this video. The only thing I've EVER thumbed is your sister's asshole. As for your claim of "missing something," what would THAT be? Another cliched, drop-tuned guitarist with his unoriginal riffs?
Do yourself a favor, little boy...Rather than respond to my last post, WORK ON YOUR CHOPS. That way, when you post a little video of your 2nd hand effects pedals, at least maybe you'll be able to correctly play the "Back in Black" riff without having to fudge the open string lick in favor of hammering another E chord. You useless hack.
@67goldtops mm ya big guy, I know how to play that riff, its child's play, I figured it would demonstrate the pedal better. Oh, I love your videos, oh wait....
You shouldn't look at and comment on videos of bands with styles you inherently seem to hate. Open your mind, and see that this is not another copycat metal band, their drop-tuning fits the general mood of their music, not trying to cover up their lack of skill. If you played Kyuss' riffs in standard tuning, they keep their mystique.
YOU'D know. Want to see a guitarist with chops? Do a youtube search for Danny Gatton. Check out his "Sleepwalk" solo and let me know how listening to a player who's actually mastered his instrument "opens your mind." lol
@67goldtops Yep Danny Gatton is sweet, I don't remember saying he wasn't. It's a much different approach to the guitar than Josh Homme uses. Again, you are trying to convince me that Josh Homme is inept at his instrument by showing me yet another BLUES player. No one is arguing their technical skill! If all you enjoy is one style of guitar, then fucking listen to it, no one will bother you. For those of us who prefer this style of music, respect it. That's why I live in the great USA.
@67goldtops And seriously, stop insulting my videos. They don't demonstrate my skill at all, merely trying to show some potential sounds a pedal can be used for. Not all of us can afford brand new boutique pedals either, so I think it is in bad taste to try and offend some of the (absurdly cheap) gear I have purchased
Do you want to know what else is easy? Ignoring people on youtube who happen to have different opinions than you. Case in point, YOU deciding to address ME, when I haven't posted on this garbage thread in almost a month. As such, it's quite comical that you felt the need to address me in the first place, let alone attempt to instruct me to "go watch something else." Clearly I've already done that. So yeah, you're a real think-tank, aren't you clown?
@67goldtops Oh stop you're hurting my feelings ;( I only addressed you because I really don't like people that go around being negative on the internet. Isn't there enough negativity to deal with on a daily basis already? I don't care that you don't like this, but I would assume that you know that generally negative comments only start arguments... so why start one?
"...So why start one?" Comical. Once again, YOU addressed ME. Now you ask, "Why start an argument?" Brilliant. Really, just brilliant. As for your "negative comments" hypothesis, more silliness. I posted here in response to a Kyuss groupie who DIRECTED me here in response to another musical thread where he was claiming that Kyuss's rhythm section was better than Led Zeppelin's. Truly a laughable assertion. You like this band? Good for you. Don't like my comment? Try IGNORING me.
@67goldtops First of all SRV's beer commercial music (I'm sorry that he died and everything, but he made beer commercial music) is MUCH more in line with the taste of the American public than Kyuss will ever be. Second, you sound like one of those musicians who thinks the be-all end-all of music is to play and/or admire someone for playing that which is most difficult to play, without regard to aesthetics or feeling. Ever stopped to think that the off-key aspects of this music were INTENTIONAL?
LOL. Perhaps you meant, "Your mom HAS a pretty pink pussy." Do you see the difference, you useless, wetback hubcap thief? Oh & for the record, pretty ladies generally have pretty pussies. So yes, perhaps my mother does have a pretty pink pussy. Not that YOU would know. But here's what I know-YOUR mother's pussy looks like an old catcher's mitt that's been out in the sun for too long. I could drive a train through that thing without touching the sides. Figures-It shat YOU out.
Man, you are one silly Mexican. What happened to you? Did ms 13 burn all of the books in your school? Is that why you're too dumb too correctly spell CRYING? I guess it's been difficult for you, growing up in that shit-hole country with a homosexual father. Don't worry, Jorge. Maybe one day you'll be able to cross the border & work at the car wash like all the other Mexican garbage. I'll even tip you a dollar when you polish the rims of my Audi. Deal?
Yeah, "Couldn't Stand the Weather" is just an AWFUL composition. Especially when he nails the change to Bm during the 2nd half of the guitar solo. And oh yeah, "Empty Arms," "Cold Shot," "Rude Mood," "Pride & Joy," "Life without You," "Telephone Song," "Lenny," "I'm Cryin," "Tightrope," those are just a few of his AWFUL compositions. RIGHT. You're even too dumb to know to use the term ARRANGER. So you say "structurer." Fucking brilliance from the "Ex-fighting dog rehabilitator."
@67goldtops do you have a life, or are you one of those WoW guys that lives off of hot pockets, and doesn't have any friendships or relationships because you can't be bothered to leave the computer except to vacate your bowels? I just looked up the page and saw that you drive an Audi. That explains a lot of why you are so much of an asshat. Eat a bag of dicks, you lonely cockbiter.
shut up and listen to the music, you childish fuck. that goldtop guy hasn't posted here in months. so why would you invite him back? listen to the music, asshole.
@67goldtops i know you're probably a troll, but whatever. if you're such a high-and-mighty guitar buff you should realize that music is not a competition. no one is doubting SRV had nastier chops than Josh Homme, but a lot of people happen to like his weird style of playing/soloing. also, he's probably like 20 years old in this video and anyone who's a fan knows he was highly influenced by punk music. Not every guitarist has to jerk off crazy blues scales all over the place to be appreciated.
Hmmmm. I don't know any players who "jerk off" all over the place. So I suppose I'll simple have to accept that you're the authority on such players. However, any way one looks at it, the simple fact is that Homme can't play. And I'm not a guy who goes for technique, simply for technique's sake. I go for intensity and emotion. Take Chris Whitley's playing, for example. Not a technical wizard, yet he nailed it...
@67goldtops Nice sarcasm. I happen to find a lot of emotion in his playing, he's written some of the best riffs in the last 20 years. His soloing style is usually sloppy/dirty but I happen to like it because it doesn't sound like every other guitarist trying to be the best. He has his own style and doesn't try to sound like guys from 40 years ago cause its already done. Listen to Kyuss's "Whitewater" or QOTSA's "You can't Quite Me Baby" live in Rio 2001 (two parter) and tell me he can't play.
Well, I just watched that Rio performance & the news ain't good. That's as atrocious a display of guitar playing as I've heard in quite some time. Really, completely amateurish. The only good thing I can say is that I suppose it's at least it's original, because I can't imagine something as boringly bad could have ever been played before. I mean he can barely navigate the neck, employ passing tones, or demonstrate the ability of someone playing for 3 years. Yawn.
its so good because its them playing to their mates for fun, now there are about 5 copies of "blues" in my local HMV which is tiny and has a very small metal section. It's unbelievable
i really don't understand why they played this song a couple of times,,,this song fuckin kicks ass, and it's probably one of my favourite in kyuss discography
i'm also with the idea that it wouldnt be good to do a kyuss reunion :/, it was the feeling of the time and everything down in palm desert what made this so great and legend, but i'm also going to see garcia playing kyuss because i got the chance now and i was just some years old back then.., but this can't be reached never!
@FrayedInstitution you should take hem and Chris Cockrell to. Nick Oliveri is a wonderful bassist, guitar player and composer. Blues for the Red Sun without Mondo Generator, without basslines like "Allen's Wrench" and "Apothecaries weight" is like crap. In fact, all his bass work in Wretch and Blues for the Red Sun was amazing (He was a guitar player, not bassist), he was a beast. He doesn't have Scott Reeder Groove, but he have the aggressive and the power of some really diabolic pick...
@yovioleatuzorramadre I geuss i have to agree man! he has got that raw power, you can hear it in wretch definately, i just can't appreciate that album as much as sky valley etc. i think its more the quality of the recording though. but scott is a beast too, u can't deny it ;) Plus his bass tapping - insane!
I personally havn't heard many of the records with chris on them... or i just don't know which ones they are :L but u can definately tell when its nick or reeder.
@Jstoeger33 your spot on with that dude. TCV kick some serious ass. And anyone trying to still be all hardcore and underground grow up! It doesn't get any better than this though. Kyuss is exactly why I give Homme props and much respect. He writes some spectacular shit. And John has there even been a cooler vocalist. I mean really?
@braincellholocaust-thank you my friend you are accurate! them crooked vultures is an amazing band...i can't wait for the next album which Homme said himself is gonna be better than the first...idk how they can do that! haha but it's gonna be phenomenal nonetheless! you like queens of the stone age as well? :)
As a band, we got out of touch. Tensions were high, because there were some personal things in the band that we didnt like, and that we needed to fix. And they werent fixed. Josh wasnt about to fix them, so the tension grew even higher, and it was very difficult. The pressure was building, and personal things came between us, pretty much. It had nothing to do with creative differences or the music that broke Kyuss apart. - John Garcia
It's weird seeing Josh Homme having such a huge influence from the stuff he did before Queens which was the stuff that got him famous...if ya get me lol
It is indeed! Im a fairly new fan of kyuss (about 5 years now) and Kyuss is just one of those bands that truly ROCK. And their music doesnt sound dated at all (kind of like The Pixies in my opinion, not in style just that it sounds new).
Lets cross our fingers and hope they get back together sometime but even if they dont, they still have awesome albums.
I definitely agree with you man, i mean he an amazing guitarist but I feel he had way more energy in kyuss than qotsa. Though I really respect him for not trying to recreate another kyuss people should definitly look at his shit in that way.
i dunno dude, Im sure greg from DEP could take him easily, and his band could probably outclass them in terms of ability(if not accessibility). thats not to diss josh or QOTSA, amazing artists they are, but its a bit much to say he can take ANYONE(especially on a musical level).
dillinger escape plan suck. that shit is trash. Besides, these are 2 COMPLETELY different worlds you're comparing. And Dave Knudson murders Greg, any day of the week.
This shit is epic American Classic Rock Music. Kids drinkin, trippin out shaking the World with rock music.
qotsa has always sucked
Zeppelin, Sabbath, Kyuss. Those are the 3 monsters of Classic Rock.
that's your opinion. and quite understandable (they're probably one of the more controversial acts out there). Its true they are different, I was just making a jab thats all. No offense to Kyuss.
But qotsa is a perfectly fine band, that remains one of the only true rock n roll bands in the mainstream today.
and I've never heard anyone define Kyuss as 'classic rock'. though I admit that they have a certain groove that is reminiscent of that era. I still think of em as Stoner Metal
meh, I dunno, I think their best album is miss machine. and the new one aint too bad either. to me, calc infinity was great and all, but really, as a whole album, it wasnt as varied or as unpredictable as their later ones...and it kind of lost steam towards the end.
lol nu-metal is not at all correct. its the same old DEP, but with pop influences, and really its a progression of what took place on the Irony is a Dead Scene EP, minus Patton of course. It's brilliant and really innovative, and showed that they were able to make truly great albums. Its not as violent as their earlier efforts, but its better realized and tighter. Calculating Infinity was great, but it was uneven at times, as was the EP with Patton, even if both had moments of pure genius
Wow Josh Homme outshadows Bruno in every aspect of guitar playing. His sound, his vibrato and his solos are so unique. Bruno of Kyuss Lives sounds like a Youtube Kid compared to him

Deal?

@ConiferTreez
So you say "structurer." Fucking brilliance from the "Ex-fighting dog rehabilitator."

shut up and listen to the music, you childish fuck. that goldtop guy hasn't posted here in months. so why would you invite him back? listen to the music, asshole.
riffwork77 1 year ago
@67goldtops i know you're probably a troll, but whatever. if you're such a high-and-mighty guitar buff you should realize that music is not a competition. no one is doubting SRV had nastier chops than Josh Homme, but a lot of people happen to like his weird style of playing/soloing. also, he's probably like 20 years old in this video and anyone who's a fan knows he was highly influenced by punk music. Not every guitarist has to jerk off crazy blues scales all over the place to be appreciated.
NuclearGuru350 2 weeks ago
@NuclearGuru350
"Jerk off crazy blues scales all over the place."
67goldtops 2 weeks ago
@67goldtops Nice sarcasm. I happen to find a lot of emotion in his playing, he's written some of the best riffs in the last 20 years. His soloing style is usually sloppy/dirty but I happen to like it because it doesn't sound like every other guitarist trying to be the best. He has his own style and doesn't try to sound like guys from 40 years ago cause its already done. Listen to Kyuss's "Whitewater" or QOTSA's "You can't Quite Me Baby" live in Rio 2001 (two parter) and tell me he can't play.
NuclearGuru350 2 weeks ago
@NuclearGuru350
Yawn.
67goldtops 2 weeks ago
@67goldtops Well, that's just, like....your opinion, man.

but i have to admit he was pretty damn good, but so was josh John brant and hermandez. not sure about nick though... i have never taken to him :P
FrayedInstitution 1 year ago
@FrayedInstitution you should take hem and Chris Cockrell to. Nick Oliveri is a wonderful bassist, guitar player and composer. Blues for the Red Sun without Mondo Generator, without basslines like "Allen's Wrench" and "Apothecaries weight" is like crap. In fact, all his bass work in Wretch and Blues for the Red Sun was amazing (He was a guitar player, not bassist), he was a beast. He doesn't have Scott Reeder Groove, but he have the aggressive and the power of some really diabolic pick...
yovioleatuzorramadre 1 year ago
@yovioleatuzorramadre I geuss i have to agree man! he has got that raw power, you can hear it in wretch definately, i just can't appreciate that album as much as sky valley etc. i think its more the quality of the recording though. but scott is a beast too, u can't deny it ;) Plus his bass tapping - insane!
I personally havn't heard many of the records with chris on them... or i just don't know which ones they are :L but u can definately tell when its nick or reeder.

2 those laughing at metal:
in music there are very thin borders between musical styles so i dont see anything funny.
kyuss is regarded as punk and metal too.
just listen to the intro. mdm.

Death metal has a specific mood to it that this song does not capture, not to mention the complete lack of death-growling and blast-beats.
Kelmourne 2 years ago 3
Josh Homme, on a musical level (and physical too, actually), can kick the shit out of any punk or metal band. Ever.
NuclearGuru350 2 years ago 6
i dunno dude, Im sure greg from DEP could take him easily, and his band could probably outclass them in terms of ability(if not accessibility). thats not to diss josh or QOTSA, amazing artists they are, but its a bit much to say he can take ANYONE(especially on a musical level).
matternicuss 2 years ago
I don't know who that is. But I was just trying to get a point across, haha.
NuclearGuru350 2 years ago
DEP is the dillinger escape plan. kind of punk, hardcore, jazz stuff. really odd, violent and not for everyone
matternicuss 2 years ago
dillinger escape plan suck. that shit is trash.
ConiferTreez 2 years ago
that's your opinion. and quite understandable (they're probably one of the more controversial acts out there).
I still think of em as Stoner Metal
matternicuss 2 years ago
DEP isn't controversial or different, just kinda lame. They used to be fresh & original, but the new shit is stale.
ConiferTreez 2 years ago
meh, I dunno, I think their best album is miss machine. and the new one aint too bad either. to me, calc infinity was great and all, but really, as a whole album, it wasnt as varied or as unpredictable as their later ones...and it kind of lost steam towards the end.
matternicuss 2 years ago
miss machine? you've got to be fucking kidding me. Isn't that the record where they went nu-metal or some bullshit?
I'm talking about 'Calculating Infinity' & 'Irony Is A Dead Scene' DEP.
ConiferTreez 2 years ago
lol nu-metal is not at all correct. its the same old DEP, but with pop influences, and really its a progression of what took place on the Irony is a Dead Scene EP, minus Patton of course. It's brilliant and really innovative, and showed that they were able to make truly great albums. Its not as violent as their earlier efforts, but its better realized and tighter. Calculating Infinity was great, but it was uneven at times, as was the EP with Patton, even if both had moments of pure genius
matternicuss 2 years
