I'm African-American, and I used to think that Hispanic/Latino were races. But I found out recently they aren't. I was confused regarding that, since the media always compares them with African-Americans, Whites, Asians, etc in terms of population and politics. Like when they say that African-Americans and Latinos tend to live in lower-class neighborhoods, the average person would get the impression that Latino is a race since it's being grouped together with African-American, which is a race.

@EricVZLeon You must be mestizo, because i've seen videos from Spain showing Spanish Nazi and other Spaniards hating on mestizos. because of the growing population of mestizos in Spain from countries like Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, etc and you call them sudacas, indios y etc.
For Spaniards to really like mestizos they would have to look white and not like most do which is indios.
Jews as a people don't cause problems in Spain. They don't beat people in the streets, and rob them.

My family has many Mestizo friends here in the U.S., and in Spain, my relatives also have Mestizo friends. Some of those Mestizos look Native American, and some look mixed, but not many of them look White, and they are always at my family's house for a fiesta campestre.

Like Nazis of Germany, KKK or Black Panthers in the U.S., Al-qaeda in the Middle East, some of those insane secular zionist Jews, etc. So I could see how some in Spain could be like that, just like anywhere else, but again, most Spaniards do not have those views. My family has a couple sets of friends that are Mexicans and Hondurans and they are always at my family's fiesta campestre.

@interstellarwonder Are you joking? Because if not, then no Hispanic has nothing to do with Americas Indigenous people. Hispanic comes from the word Hispania/ Hispanicus which is now named Espana.
By his definition George Lopez would classify as Hispanic, because George Lopez is mestizo. But may be to brown for Eric's liking. Unless Eric is just some mestizo who wants to be accepted by Spaniards.

@interstellarwonder interstellar, I live in the U.S. and I'm a Spanish-American, my family is from Canary Islands, Spain. I know exactly what you are talking about. People in the U.S. think Hispanic is a race, and on top of that, they think you have to be from Latin America to be Hispanic. They don't look at Spaniards as Hispanics, but at the same time want to lump them with Mexicans. It's outrageous. Hispanic=Hispania (ancient Roman name for Spain)=Spaniards. Aztecs and Mayans are not Hispanic.

@wTfMarkee .....a person who is Mexican is someone who was born in Mexico. Mexican is not a race, it's a nationality. Just like a person who was born in Brazil is Brazilian regardless of what race they are. There are alot of races in Mexico, alot of subcultures, just like in the US.

Hispanic and Latino isn't the name of a country. Hispanic aka Hispano used to be what the Romans called the Spaniards and Latino was the name of the Italian tribe that built the Roman Empire.
Now Latino has changed to anyone who was born in a Romance speaking country. Or has a latin type of latin culture.
And hispanic now also means being born in a spanish speaking country or hispanic type of culture.

Also people in the United States also call "Latin" Americans Latin and Spanish and even Spaniard even though not as common.
