@Theasianphilosipher@marksene Yeah, but it's talking about the dark side of prostitution. It's mainly focusing on how people really act - a businessman who has sex with a hooker quickly goes into his house, and feels guilty when he sees his wife. It's what really happens in this world, very unlike American rap.
I agree with you to some extent, Epik High is definitely my favorite Korean group out there, been listening to them since '06, but I wouldn't go as far as to bash mainstream kpop either. Those guys work hard and have talent too! Plus Tablo is friends with quite a few of them x]

American hip-hop is beastly underground, more so than Korean hip-hop. I prefer KHip hop however, because everyone who made it, and those that are still underground are all intertwined in this tight connection. It's a Soul Connection.
yea, it's a shame alot of Americans don't know them, truly epic. i also like that they can go into any genre and master it, staight hip/hop, catchy, sad, slow, they can do it all.
I'm so glad that I found epik high. I love their lyrics. When they talk english. O.O
They are so good! I wish they would release an english cd b/c clearly it wouldn't be a problem since they have perfect english. Plus they can teach some american artists something about true music.
I know Epik High dosent just make music they write things that are so true and awesome plus I went on Yesasia(dot)com and I looked up epik high and found a book of tablo like writing in english and stuff when he was in stranford and I wanna buy ppl say the book is awesome
ohmygoodness. i read it! pieces of you right? it's extremely...deep. it's one of those "read inbetween the lines" books. there's a lot of meaning behind it, and it's touching. i started crying on page two -_-" i highly recommend it!
Well thats what you think, but before the US in medival times people would die everywhere and the smell of blood would be borned into the air everyday, now think fo a child growing in a enviornment like that, now think of Today they have ratings, and everything else. Its all a matter of assumption and how life is there, now, where etc
man this is deep i love the fact that they are so lyrical, even though i don't speak korean it is great to hear such a sick flow with words that cut deep in to the soul reminds me of lupe fiasco amazing 5 stars and thanks for translating
In the {High Society} album, a track titled: Lesson One(Tablo's World), tablo has a line that goes "Genius is not the answer to all question, it's the question to all answers" and this song goes on to further illustrate how our human intelligence has furthered dangered and mistreated the whole world (the song is in english so you can easily understand (: )
So when Tablo says he's the question to all answers it's not trying to boost his ego, rather, he's reinstating his purpose in writing which is to raise doubts about the perceived "answers" to the suffering ppl, war, deaths, unjust in the world.
Tablo wanted to remap the human soul. However, his music doesn't remap it. It recreates it. I hate how lyrically gifted Tablo is. When God made him, God wasted no time whatsoever.
unlike most people in the u.s. and in the music indestry nowadays, he actualy talks about important things not just how many cars someone has and how great sex is.
mhooddawg, and many others like him/her, should not be allowed to make comments on YouTube. This is, of course, is to save themselves from their own ignorant thoughts. Even the really mainstream rappers [in the US] talk about something "important" every now and then on their respective albums. Everything Epik High has said or done with their music has already been said or done before.
Epik High is decent, but for every Epik High in Korea, there are about five more like them in the US.
Like 99% of all mainstream rap is about sex, girls, or drugs in America.
I know 1 song that stands out - Where is the Love by Black Eyed Peas, it's the only song I like by them. As for everyone else, I haven't seen an "important" message come out from them.
Go find 5 mainstream rappers in America and write em up here, I'd be interested in that kinda music if you're able to prove to all the "ignant peeps" they talk about something important "every now and then".
What's the point, though? I'm dealing with a very pro-Asian/Epik High crowd here and they're not going to stand for any negative comments made about Epik High or Asian music.
So, even though I'm fairly certain I'm right with regards to Epik High not being that special, as a whole and when compared to other known acts, people here aren't going to want to believe it.
Don't know if it's because of "Asian Pride" or what, but some of you need a reality check.
I think you are coming from a rather biased pov as well seeing that you called Epikhigh "Asian music". The point is that epikhigh's music and especially lyrics should be seen as a broader picture as simply music with lyrical purposes of engaging with listeners to question today's societal issues. And because of that plus the literary beauty within their music, people enjoy and love their music. Not necessarily because of an "asian pride".
No, I'm coming from various discussions revolving around Asian music artists and the American music scene today. The initial comment that made me jump into this discussion was: "unlike most people in the u.s. and in the music indestry nowadays, he actually talks about important things..". That's a pretty commom remark found on most YouTube videos starring Asian music artists.
The way they phrase their comments makes it seem like they're taking potshots at the music scene in the US.
With regards to the lyrical content -- I'm not Korean. I don't know much about the Korean language, so I can't say if the translation for this particular song is accurate. By accurate, I'm talking about words and entire phrases not being touched up to make it seem more "beautiful".
I know enough Japanese to see that in some Japanese music videos and Japanese shows, some Japanese words have had their meaning altered slightly in subtitles. It makes Japanese seem more versatile than it is.
It's fine for you to say that there are many praise-worthy talented artists out there, which I honestly dont deny, and epik may or may not be among them(depending on your personal opinion and preferences, still it's not nice or right to put epik down especially when such negative comments can hurt epikhigh enthusiasts and stir unrest.
Again, in my first comment on this video, I said that Epik High was a decent music act. However, I also mentioned my belief that they're better acts [than Epik High] in the US.
So, given the fact/opinion that my comments weren't very negative (I never said they sucked or anything along those lines), then why would I be given so many thumbs down?
Epik High fans can't really believe that they know of every music act in the US, let alone the world, can they?
There's no such thing as a 'better act' or 'best act' in music.. especially in a genre as vast as hip hop.. it's a matter of opinion.. however, I do agree with you on the note that some of these comments are real ignorant saying shit like "better than the crap from the US" because if it wasn't for the US there'd be no hip hop in Asia in the first place, and it's not like there's no stupid shit in Asian music.. this is coming from a Korean so don't think I'm dissing the shit..
Sorry, I meant to reply to this a little sooner, but I got a little sidetracked.
Anyway..
There is such thing as a "better act" because if such a distinction did not exist, then that would mean that Lil' Wayne's music is equal to Epik High's in terms of quality.
Now, if you're willing to say that, then you're truly a better person than me, but even if Epik High were rapping about how much they hate brown rice, I would still say it's better than most of Lil' Wayne's catalog.
that would be true if lil wayne was in the same style category as epik high.. lil wayne is pop rap bullshit.. epik high has had its pop moments.. high society was the worst album in my opinion.. but almost every other track they've put out is real shit. But i get what you're trying to say
Bone Thungs ' n Harmony are mainstream, regardless of whether they're as "popular" as Lil' Wayne or not.
1moomed23 threw Lupe Fiasco out there and I believe he qualifies as mainstream, so that's two. Not always on point, but he has a couple of songs that could pass as "decent", message-wise, anyway.
Tablo : 'yeah, cuz I am The Question to all Answers'
is that mean Tablo is genius? OF COURSE!

yea, it's a shame alot of Americans don't know them, truly epic. i also like that they can go into any genre and master it, staight hip/hop, catchy, sad, slow, they can do it all.

I'm so glad that I found epik high. I love their lyrics. When they talk english. O.O
They are so good! I wish they would release an english cd b/c clearly it wouldn't be a problem since they have perfect english. Plus they can teach some american artists something about true music.

i might be acceptable here in the US, but in Korea it's a Rated R song.. (if such things exist..)
I personally love the song and think that Korea needs to chill..
The anal, radical assholes there need to listen to this...
ixl0v3xbl00h 2 years ago
Well thats what you think, but before the US in medival times people would die everywhere and the smell of blood would be borned into the air everyday, now think fo a child growing in a enviornment like that, now think of Today they have ratings, and everything else. Its all a matter of assumption and how life is there, now, where etc

what does he mean by the question to all answers?
appleJUICEomg 2 years ago
In the {High Society} album, a track titled: Lesson One(Tablo's World), tablo has a line that goes "Genius is not the answer to all question, it's the question to all answers" and this song goes on to further illustrate how our human intelligence has furthered dangered and mistreated the whole world (the song is in english so you can easily understand (: )
japfreak 2 years ago
So when Tablo says he's the question to all answers it's not trying to boost his ego, rather, he's reinstating his purpose in writing which is to raise doubts about the perceived "answers" to the suffering ppl, war, deaths, unjust in the world.
I hope this answers your question (:

Tablo wanted to remap the human soul. However, his music doesn't remap it. It recreates it. I hate how lyrically gifted Tablo is. When God made him, God wasted no time whatsoever.

i love epik high
(tablo inparticular)
unlike most people in the u.s. and in the music indestry nowadays, he actualy talks about important things not just how many cars someone has and how great sex is.
i admire him!

mhooddawg, and many others like him/her, should not be allowed to make comments on YouTube. This is, of course, is to save themselves from their own ignorant thoughts. Even the really mainstream rappers [in the US] talk about something "important" every now and then on their respective albums. Everything Epik High has said or done with their music has already been said or done before.
Epik High is decent, but for every Epik High in Korea, there are about five more like them in the US.

youre a joke. you have nothing but shit between your ears. youre just a tool.
candyisbetternyou 2 years ago
wait, what?
Like 99% of all mainstream rap is about sex, girls, or drugs in America.
I know 1 song that stands out - Where is the Love by Black Eyed Peas, it's the only song I like by them. As for everyone else, I haven't seen an "important" message come out from them.
Go find 5 mainstream rappers in America and write em up here, I'd be interested in that kinda music if you're able to prove to all the "ignant peeps" they talk about something important "every now and then".
AznInsurrection777 2 years ago 7
#1 Bone Thugs 'n Harmony
What's the point, though? I'm dealing with a very pro-Asian/Epik High crowd here and they're not going to stand for any negative comments made about Epik High or Asian music.
So, even though I'm fairly certain I'm right with regards to Epik High not being that special, as a whole and when compared to other known acts, people here aren't going to want to believe it.
Don't know if it's because of "Asian Pride" or what, but some of you need a reality check.
MelodicWaves 2 years ago
I think you are coming from a rather biased pov as well seeing that you called Epikhigh "Asian music". The point is that epikhigh's music and especially lyrics should be seen as a broader picture as simply music with lyrical purposes of engaging with listeners to question today's societal issues. And because of that plus the literary beauty within their music, people enjoy and love their music. Not necessarily because of an "asian pride".
japfreak 2 years ago 3
No, I'm coming from various discussions revolving around Asian music artists and the American music scene today. The initial comment that made me jump into this discussion was: "unlike most people in the u.s. and in the music indestry nowadays, he actually talks about important things..". That's a pretty commom remark found on most YouTube videos starring Asian music artists.
The way they phrase their comments makes it seem like they're taking potshots at the music scene in the US.
MelodicWaves 2 years ago
With regards to the lyrical content -- I'm not Korean. I don't know much about the Korean language, so I can't say if the translation for this particular song is accurate. By accurate, I'm talking about words and entire phrases not being touched up to make it seem more "beautiful".
I know enough Japanese to see that in some Japanese music videos and Japanese shows, some Japanese words have had their meaning altered slightly in subtitles. It makes Japanese seem more versatile than it is.
MelodicWaves 2 years ago
It's fine for you to say that there are many praise-worthy talented artists out there, which I honestly dont deny, and epik may or may not be among them(depending on your personal opinion and preferences, still it's not nice or right to put epik down especially when such negative comments can hurt epikhigh enthusiasts and stir unrest.
japfreak 2 years ago
Again, in my first comment on this video, I said that Epik High was a decent music act. However, I also mentioned my belief that they're better acts [than Epik High] in the US.
So, given the fact/opinion that my comments weren't very negative (I never said they sucked or anything along those lines), then why would I be given so many thumbs down?
Epik High fans can't really believe that they know of every music act in the US, let alone the world, can they?
MelodicWaves 2 years ago
There's no such thing as a 'better act' or 'best act' in music.. especially in a genre as vast as hip hop.. it's a matter of opinion.. however, I do agree with you on the note that some of these comments are real ignorant saying shit like "better than the crap from the US" because if it wasn't for the US there'd be no hip hop in Asia in the first place, and it's not like there's no stupid shit in Asian music.. this is coming from a Korean so don't think I'm dissing the shit..
lil5hit 2 years ago 5
Sorry, I meant to reply to this a little sooner, but I got a little sidetracked.
Anyway..
There is such thing as a "better act" because if such a distinction did not exist, then that would mean that Lil' Wayne's music is equal to Epik High's in terms of quality.
Now, if you're willing to say that, then you're truly a better person than me, but even if Epik High were rapping about how much they hate brown rice, I would still say it's better than most of Lil' Wayne's catalog.
MelodicWaves 2 years ago 6
that would be true if lil wayne was in the same style category as epik high.. lil wayne is pop rap bullshit.. epik high has had its pop moments.. high society was the worst album in my opinion.. but almost every other track they've put out is real shit. But i get what you're trying to say
lil5hit 2 years ago 2
I don't see why people thumbed Melodic just because he said there are better acts in the U.S.
Kenzai206 2 years ago 3
What happened to mainstream rapper(S)?
Lil wayne's award count sadly overshadows Bone Thugs 'n Harmony by a landslide.
AznInsurrection777 2 years ago
Bone Thungs ' n Harmony are mainstream, regardless of whether they're as "popular" as Lil' Wayne or not.
1moomed23 threw Lupe Fiasco out there and I believe he qualifies as mainstream, so that's two. Not always on point, but he has a couple of songs that could pass as "decent", message-wise, anyway.
