2:36 tells you all you need to know. Not only can Ian not sing, he looks like he can't even be arsed and knows he shouldn't be there. Talk about trading on past glories, I dread to think people paid good money to see this. Wronger than a shop full of wrong things.
I love the Stone Roses, I love this song, I love Ian Brown, and I honestly think that this was one of the worst moments in the history of modern music.
This demonstrates why I've always wished that Stone Roses had a more worthy vocalist than Ian. He's just simply awful live, and every live clip here on YouTube shows that. But even on record, yeah, the studio magic makes him sound at least in tune and acceptable, but it's still a pretty lame, unimpressive voice on top of some seriously GREAT tunes. I get really tired of listening to their stuff for any length of time because his voice starts to really annoy me after a while. A crying shame!
Yeah. I saw them live in Los Angeles in 1992 and it was the worst concert I've ever paid to see...and they were my favorite band at the time. This concert reminds me of that show except in LA he started cussing at the lighting or sound engineer most of the time and then basically gave up. He may have even left...I've repressed my memories.
Lets hope the brothers can pull it back together and make us all proud with the come back gigs! Hope Ian has had some singing lessons or gets full of pills ;)
Brown's under par singing just about works in the studio but a lot of their live stuff makes me question his ability to sing in tune. This is just fucking aweful. Terrible karaoke as someone else right wrote. The original is amazing and you'd never think this was the same vocalist.
@deepaksssme it was all four of them together as a band mate that made them special, not any one of them on their own, which is why once Reni went the whole thing started to go tits up
This isn't The Stone Roses. This is Ian Brown not knowing how to stop something that just wasn't working any more, look at his face, that's stubbornness, he knew it. And out of loyalty, his mate Gary went down with him.
How the fuck could he hear himself above flat drumming, by the numbers guitar playing and keyboards from Austin Powers anyway. Couldn't believe their fucking luck those 3.
See you at Heaton Park next year for a proper Roses gig.
Ian brown knows that he was bad and squire and wreni werent there , so this wasn't the real roses. In all fairness aziz tried his hardest and FairPlay to him but it wasn't the same , all in all pretty poor.
Heaton park will be different and I shall be there day 1 , you won't see a performance like this then !
Whoever you are, wherever you are...........just dont bother. Go to the search box and type Stone Roses Standing Here. After that mesmeric song has finished and the hairs on the back of your neck are still upstanding, type in Stone Roses Somethings Burning. All will be well.
IAN BROWNS NEVER BEEN GREAT LIVE 2 BE FAIR, I DONT CARE THOUGH CUZ HEATON PARKS GONNA BE GREAT..............BEST BAND EVER.... BEST MOST BRILLIANT MUSIC, MAYBE NOT LIVE BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY WHO GIVES A FUCK? ITS ONE MORE DAY IN THE SUN!
@janeAusten44 you cunt, you shouldnt have been tryna get a ticket if you aint even a roses fan, loads of real fans missed out coz of day trippers like yourself tryna be cool,
There was a good reason that the NME called this "I am the crucifixion". It's bad, very bad, but to be fair this wasn't really the Roses, just a Roses tribute band featuring Ian and Mani.
I hope and pray he better than this next summer,, 240 quid for 2 tickets??? haha shittin it about goin on the Sunday now,, 3rd day, his voice will be fucked,, and if this was when he was in his prime??? Jeez,, maybe i shud just stick to my beloved cd's an not ruin it for me? :-/
IAN BROWN... IF YOUR WATCHING THIS THEN YOU BETTER DO BETTER THAN THIS !!!!!!! PEOPLE HAVE PAID ALOT OF MONEY & YOU DONT WONT TO GET BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD OFF..!!
dreadful, it's sacrilege, it's blaspheming and i can't believe mani and ian let this happen to be honest... the stone roses are a spiritual rite of passage to us in manchester and watching this is like tortue -- it's hard to forgive but i hope tomorrow morning we get the right news, the original news
Why the frig didn't they just boot him out. I mean would you have a lead guitarist in your band who cant play the guitar? Why a lead singer then who cant fuking sing?
Why the frig didn't they just boot him out. I mean would you have a lead guitarist in your band who couldn't play? Why a lead singer then who cant fuking sing?
Aziz, is hitting the notes alrite, but the effect on the guitar is not happenin, given a polished sound with keyboards as pointed out...if he had the guitar heavier distorted, like the sound Squire had on the Second Coming Tour, it may of worked....never liked that guitar effect, which is used by alot of Roses cover bands and on the actual debut album itself, its abit Johnny Marr....but it descends into cheese too much for me
well yes he was terrible but he was terrible because apparently his monitor was either too loud or wasn't working, so he couldn't hear himself singing. it happened to england in the eurovision song contest one year.
Great guitarist but its just not John Squire. He worked hard on nailing the riffs and not the effects. When Squire would use the Flanger effect in Made of Stone, it flowed so well from the distorted solo into the Flanger effect, where as this guitarist just hits the Flanger and BAM awkward, random Flanger FX. In this, he nails the riffs in the final solo, but with the keyboards and the overuse of distortion, it sounds horribly 'overproduced' and like most people are saying.. IT AIN'T THE ROSES.
Ian brown could never sing in the first place, the roses were more of a studio band, It is all down to the amazing song writting of ian brown why they are big.
There's nothing wrong with any of the musicians here but The Roses were a mythological band; a gang, and that had long passed by this stage.
Ian was able to sing well and sing poorly but it never really mattered before this period cos he was part of a *Band*, here he looks like he should be put down. I'm glad he's back now.
Maybe The Fall of the Roses was nowt to do with Reni or John leaving though... have you ever noticed that the better Mani's hair gets, the worse the band gets..?
This is a travesty of a performance, with Ian Brown's singing being particularly bad. It makes me wonder if he was deliberately trying to kill the Roses off with this Reading show, and he definitely succeeded in doing that whether or not he was trying to. This really is not how a great band like this should be remembered.
