u must read this. once u have started there is no turning back. a litle 10 year old girl was raped and murdered in 1945. her body was not fund until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos 30 minutes the dead girl will appear in your room tonight and hant you and kil you. well you better start to copy and paste to be save
Barrene and I were going out when this album was a successful hit on the charts. This song brings back great memories of her back in Minnesota. Barrene, I still think of you. If we didn't live so far apart back then, I know we'd still be together right now. Thanks for posting this great song....
HEAVY is indeed quintessential, but BALL and METAMORPHOSIS remain my favorites. "The Best Years Of Our Lives" and "Slower Than Guns" are the songs I often loop for repeated play. I never tire of them. Just imagine if they could all still be creating music together today! I am grateful that we have the treasure of their work, which remains. Thank you for posting their music for new fans to discover.
I had this on vinyl in the 9th grade. This song was dedicated to Dunyea West. Might have just been a friend of theirs, but it drove me crazy not to know.
@jackneefus Yes. . he was one of their managers. . .and a very good friend of theirs . . It was symbolic of, and in respect of, the care that he and his partners took of the band's interests. They were one of the rare ones that were good for the artists .. and it is an awesome song . .
@GregERobertson You are so right. I currently am working for Duneya West out in the southwest. He still to this day talks about how much he loved being with these guys. I can defninitely see why they dedicated this song to him. :-)
@Lmnt4lf that's very cool . .in some circles (balls?lol) he's quite the legend .. make the best of your time with him; you can learn much. I myself e-mailed back and forth a bit with Bear, his sort-of counterpart over at the Grateful Dead . much to glean from associations with these type of people ..
Love this! The more I listen to BALL, the more METAMORPHOSIS moves to the back seat. Ingle's vocals are mesmerising! The music stands, after all these years...a real treasure.
This was a great group that burned out by overexposing themselves too fast too soon. They cranked out successive albums and for me it got weary on my ears. But they were good.
@pmoyer50 It wasn't that. There was so much great music and it was evolving so fast that we took it all for granted. The heavy/hairy psychedelic sound did get tiring to our burned-out brains and we gravitated to a mellower sound. Three albums between 1967 and 1969 isn't too much too soon, especially back then. What (pleasantly) surprises me right now is how many views this has compared to others by IB. How we've grown!
@abuelotejano I'll get to it sometime not too long from now. Haven't really been able to listen to this album for some time if you catch me, albeit a masterpiece.
Iron Butterfly was booked for Woodstock '69 ! They flew into NY only to find a clogged airport and freeways to the site and never made the show...can you imagine if they had made it? The Butterfly in their prime during that psychedelic period at Woodstock? In A Gadda Da Vida alone would have been one of the crowns of that great Woodstock movie all by itself, let alone this lost classic if they had played it..This is my favorite Butterfly song....
This group was very versatile...of course it may have been 'cause they were all drugged up, nevertheless, their in A Gadda Da Vida album was awesome; and I especially like this song - it was unique for in it's day. Iron Butterfly and Led Zeppelin were at the top for me...between them I never could decide who was the best.
I for one don't understand why this song hasn't been re-recorded by contemporary artists. It is so damn good. One of the best songs this group ever wrote. I love all their music but this one is truely great in composition.
christians grandma, Aaron Neville's style of singing which is very similar, predates Iron Butterfly. Doug Ingle definately sang in that soulful style which Aaron Neville sang first. This has always been one of my favorite IB tunes. Another great song from "Ball" is "In the crowds" which has an awesome Erik Brann intro.
In the late 60's my freinds and i used to smoke it up in a little hut and always fall asleep with the turntable repeating itself and thats where i started lliking this song.
Love it Love it Love it! My brother had this album and I can remember borrowing it all the time....great tunes on it...this one and Soul Experience...you NEVER hear them anymore!
