  • ugh i hate people who hate on modern wushu..... what the hell is so bad about it? wushu is wushu, and it will always be that way.

"if you want to reminisce, the old records are still there" - John Lennon

  • @p4v1l0ndrumm3r you ruin the image of chinese martial arts. no one makes real weapons because they have to make your floppy weapons. misguided fools choose you to represent chinese marital arts on documentaries. you also scam people saying that's is authentic when its just a commie invention

  • woooww!!! NO MAMES!!! está de NO MAMES!!! he is a total badass

  • On the debate at the beggining, he did get a bunch a point deductions for stumbling, but his basics were clear and sharp. if you did wushu you would know that even something as basic as stances is tiring in itself, the trick is making it look like its not which i thought he ececuted nicely. so yea ^_^

  • beautiful

  • Legendary

  • Damn, he's so light on his feet! Amazing, thanks for posting!

  • Zhao Chang Jun > Li Lian Jie (Jet Li). I like how feces is in the same conversation as ZCJ. He is one of my favorites of all time. Thanks for the post. And for the record, I think the US wushu team is great, and not ALL modern wushu sucks (maybe Yuan Xiao Chao and Liu Zhi Yong, but Lu Yong Xu, Zhang Kun Rong, Zhao Kun, Wei jian? Nope! :)

  • Wushu, The way its truly supposed to be done.

  • I totaly agree! When I watch chang quan as it looks today, I get very sad. They jump very high and they spin very much BUT...there is no power, no stances, hardly any wushu left!

    Bring back old-school!

  • Rushed? There's a time limit when you compete with men at this level. Don't make excuses

  • he didn't say anything about history fool. He just said stop making excuses. Even if there wasn't a time limit you still have to go strong and fast throughout to get a full score. I love how everyone has to argue on youtube when they don't know what they talkin about. ::Sigh:: inbreeding....

  • Whoa now I see the problem. Anyone who thinks Zhao Qingjian is better at wushu than zhao changjun has something wrong with their head.

And to quote Jet Li, "Wushu is not a race."

Faster and more nandu gymnastic looking moves doesn't mean better wushu. If the form isn't tasty than there is no Jing Shen. No jing shen means no gongfu. Granted, zhao qingjen is probably the last wushu athlete to have had jing shen. But still incomparable with Zhao chang jun by FAR. he's also 14-16 in this clip

  • You've said something interesting as well. Post a video of a twelve year old doing this form better than Zhao Changjun. Wushu opinion is highly subjective (especially these days) but I want to see for my self a child who can champion one of the top three greatest wushu players of all time (Jet Li and Yuan Wenqing being the other two... than the list goes into either liu haibo or liu qinghua but I think hao zhihua was better than her...) zhao qingjen wouldn't make the list. he was just the last.

  • There is nothing dirty and sloppy about this. The motions are more connected and full of shenfa than any modern wushu athlete. You clearly need more training

  • On Jet Li's website he actually says quite the opposite I'm afraid. Well at least he didn't make any statements about his own level but he did say the quality of wushu had fallen since his day.

  • I appreciate you actually providing a quote. I'm unsure when the say was written so I can't even guess the meaning behind the quote because if he had written that in 97 when Yuan wenqing and Jiang Banjun were competing than I think the wushu had I much better quality as far as difficulty and the perfection of basic movements were concerned than that of Jet Li's era though there was certainly more tastiness back than. As the one debating you pointed out, Zhao qingjian was the last of those greats

  • I don't know whether either of you were debating the more modern wushu and i hate to always throw in my two cents on this because its a huge debate right now but I think that the stuff we see from 2002 forward, with the exception of Zhao qingjian and a couple others has really lost the beauty of wushu altogether. I remember when spear was actually spear instead of holding a spear behind your back while to do nandu jump kicks that are meticulously scored.

  • That is to say I understand why you would need to eliminate the tastiness of wushu and standardize it in order to create a systematic scoring method (one that could be summited to the Olympics) but my view has always been if thats what it takes to turn wushu into an Olympic sport than why make it one at all? The jump kicks are certainly more difficult now but the forms don't even look tiring. It looks like a less impressive version of gymnastics with a soundtrack, almost like figure skating.

  • I enjoyed reading your guy's debate and I've already responded enough on this but I'm not sure it's right to say that this form was dirty or sloppy. It may not have been perfectly crisp but it was pretty damn amazing.

  • Are you so arrogant that you'd compare yourself to wushu's greatest son, and not only belittle his achievement but call him sloppy and say nandu is better? You're pathetic.

  • whoa whoa whoa. THE MODERN US TEAM IS BETTER THAN ZCJ?!?!?! You are clearly insane and no nothing about real wushu. To you basics is a matter of doing a low stance and a 720 kick without any shenfa or hejing power. Zhao Chnagjun was the best! and 86' was wushu's greatest year, and you are so arrogant that you dare say that this olympic wannabe trash is on a whole other level?! ::sigh:: Inbreeding....

  • @theshadowsquadisback Wonderful form and very nice footwork. ... if I could do it half as good as this, I will consider myself blessed

  • You are undoubtedly a fool. Why are you still writing? On top of not teaching you anything about wushu did your master also teach you to eat shit?

  • Bastard. This real world, real martial art. Not dragonball with trance music. US suck at everything. Suck at wushu, suck at dub dragonball..EVERYTHING. Not knowing to develop new modern to complete but misunderstanding precedes essential jibengong which not rushing to make form clearer is better. that cool. You cry to sleep.

  • bastard. english something i know well. not only you not thinking wushu but also understanding english.

  • Haha I really had no idea that such a simple video would spark such venomous conduct on youtube. I still live in a fantasy world where everyone has an opinion and no one gets angry at anyone else for disagreeing, even if that opinion is not the opinion of the majority. The last thing I'll say though is that the form you described, the one that looks like this but alot different is the Junior Compulsory form and that form was of ZCJ's creation so it's incorrect to say that he does it wrong.

  • will you marry me?

  • man, at 1:38 how can he do a low stance like that, with his bent leg at that angle. Every time I do that it feels like my knee is gonna pop

  • It helps of you lean on your glut muscles. You'd be surprised how much pressure is taken off the knee that way

  • man, is he bare footed?

  • I don't believe so.

  • WOOOOOOW!!!!

  • WICKED!!!

  • awesome footage! this male changquan compulsory was EXTREMELY hard to perform! ZCJ is one of the best of all times! great wushu and great person!

  • Man he was amazing even back then!!! KU-RAY-ZEE!!!

  • Wow wa wee wa! Thank you!!
