Man, this is such a waste of time. I am not leaving a hate comment. I am simply stating the facts. I guess if the people really into Linux want to learn how to make music using it, then this is for you. If you want to actually get right in and make some music with top of the line synths, effects and software... you are surely in the wrong place.
@CaptainChaos: I'm sure you are right, I made this video a long time ago and don't remember what did in it. I assume you are speaking of the JACK connections. I mainly use Patchage as a front end for JACK now, It's a good program if you get a chance to check it out.
you cant see anything under the midi tab, because you aren't using Jack-midi with any of your applications...you are using alsa, hence why they are under the "alsa" tab.
You have great knack for this Ardour. Do you know a band to record? Please show and entire real band being recorded, mixed and mastered. That will be huge.
@analyzingfunny: I've been asked this before. I don't have recording equipment, but I know some people who do and have musical talent. I'll see what I can do.
@metalx1000 Please do that. I have a Scully 280 tape recorder. It was same type recorder used for More Than A Feeling, and Whole Lotta Love. But this Ardour is grand. Thanks to you, and your easy going method, I was able to learn it real quick. Being a noob, I finally got it downloaded. I didnt know I needed Jack, didnt know how to install anything on Linux yet. But I have been on Linux for about three months now and cant be any happier.
@analyzingfunny: Good to hear. What version of Linux? Look for a program called Synaptic. It's a package manager. It connects to servers called repositories. It should download and install any program you need. It is the safest and easy way to install stuff in Linux. Jackd is not need for Ardour, but Jackd will allow you to connect all the audio program you use together.
@metalx1000 Yup I finally learned how to use Synaptic. I am using Linux 9.01 on 900 mhz 256meg machine. Please dont laugh. Stop laughing. Really its not funny. I did manage to record three tracks and put two or three effects on it, and a compressor on the master. Then it bogs down and wont play after that. But I did learn the basics of Linux and Ardour. Ardour was the first program I downloaded, thanks to you.
@analyzingfunny: No, that's cool. It's great that you have something to work with. Microsoft hasn't made an OS in 10 years that you could even install on a machine of that speed let alone even attempt to do track recording on. I'm not sure what you mean by Linux 9.01 though.
@metalx1000 But yes, a coplete video in real time recording, mixing, adding the proper effects, panning ect. Then the mastering, all in real time. I would buy a cd of the final product to say I was one of the first people to hear Ardour. This is going to be THE standard for recording. This is big. Protools sued Ardour, its that big. No more buying "protools certified shit". Ardour is the no standard. I love it.
Wait a minute, I didnt want to come off like that. Please make some more vids about recording with that synth and for the newbies! I jUST got this working and it is great.
These videos are great. Thanks for posting! I use Acid with windows, do you know if linux has an equivalent? I like that acid stretches and shrinks different bpm's, can ardour do that?
@boogiewheels: I only used Acid once o twice back in the day. I don't know if it is the same as acid, but Ardour does have a stretches and shrinks feature and you can change the BMP's. I'll do a video on it and post it this Monday.

Actually, the two plugins areas are pre and post fader. Pre fader means the effects are routed before the volume fader of the channel, the posts come after the volume fader. This gives different results in the mixing process and sometimes they need to be post or pre (such as inserts and aux).

You don't have to close the connection dialogs to make new programs show up, that's what the Rescan button is for.

@metalx1000 That looks like a very cool and useful program. Thanks for the tip!

can i change the hotkeys, make presets for the inserts, install new vst plugins, make groupe channel, make fx channel, send effects ?
Cutrexxx 10 months ago
@Cutrexxx:
hotkeys: I would guess so, but haven't tried myself.
make presets for the inserts: Not 100% sure what you mean here, but you can create templates.
install new vst plugins: Yes, with Wine. I have not done it myself because I don't use Wine or proprietary software.
make groupe channel: once again not 100% sure what you mean, but I you can link output and input channels together.
make fx channel, send effects: yes and yes

@boogiewheels I think that LMMS or Qtractor can replace acid. I use Qtractor and it's great it handles midi and audio.
