  • can i take it for a test drive piz :)

  • those have power steering right?

  • those have power steering right?

  • Can you hook those fifth wheel campers to semis, like the one behind this one?

  • ahhhh, a kenworth w900B

  • @animal16365 It's a W900A.

  • I don't know much about semi trucks, but my dad's tractor, has almost the same looking lever on the right side of the steering wheel as your truck. I'm talking about the one that's almost pointing straight forward. I'm curious, what does that lever do? Because on my dad's tractor, that's the throttle.

  • @FragTheFragger That is the control for the trailer brakes. It is used when the driver wants to use only the trailer brakes and not the brakes on the tractor. The foot pedal works the brakes on the tractor and the trailer together.

  • @eddievalleytrailer

    Ah. That makes sense. Thanks.

  • Hey I noitce it looks like you pull a 5thwheel travel trailer with ur kw?

I might be buying A 30ft 5th wheel travel trailer soon, and since I'm a OTR driver

I was thinking about just usin my 3 axle freightliner to move it, to save me from putting a fifithwheel on my one ton. just wonder if you hand any problems with the fifthwheel connection to the trailer? I've seem a few other people do it, and thought it was cool.

  • my dad had a 77 amodel with 400 cummins sounded just like this one

  • Sweet truck!

  • cummins big cam III 315 hp mmmmmm mejor prefiero el formula 350hp

  • @9ZAZAOO

    It is a 400.

  • the model of the truck dont matter....its the engine and drive line that counts

  • Agreed. whatever it is, to me it IS a gorgeous, working truck

  • petes*

  • and what yea know its a kenworth

    pets are better

  • petes and kw's are the same thing made by the same company paccar

  • u are incorrect sir. paccar may own both, but they are entirely different trucks.

  • still they use alot of the same components and shit like that much like Ford/Mercury

  • they had kind of a ford/mercury thing going with the T-2000 vs. 387 thing. but that's the only two models that use the same body. other than that they are as different as Dodge and Chevy.

  • i dont know nothin about big rigs....why did the speedo bounce up to 10mph on the start?...just the nature of the beast?

  • The speedometer is electric and that is just a power surge from the starter.

  • Do you still have this truck

  • @kblackav8or grounding issues much?

  • they dont build trucks like they used to.

and thats one way to tow a camper...

  • They don't build anything like they used to.

  • Love that A model such a good looking truck I have an 81 log hauler ,the logger i haul for has an old wood chipper that uses a reverse rotation small cam engine under no load that governs out at 2500 rpm's !

  • Great classic KW. I was borne in '81, too. :)

  • What is the redline of this engine, bout 2500rpm's?

  • By redline I am assuming you are referring to a do not exceed rpm. I believe it might be somewhat higher. Mostly these were adjusted to govern at 2200 or so. Tractor pullers using this engine will do some things and probably turn 2800 or more with them. Valvesprings are one area.

  • 2100 rpm is the redline.

  • never seen a big rig turn more than 2400 and that's really pushing it

  • awesome truck man

  • nice truck

  • i love the signs at the steps lol

    "PRIVATE VEHICAL NOT FOR HIRE"

    LOL!!!

  • for sale?

  • Everything is for sale for the right price. Not looking to sell at the moment though unless I get an offer I can't refuse.

  • something like $100,000

  • I think I could be convinced to sell for quite a bit less then that. Feel free to offer 100k though.

  • I had a 78 KW big power

  • I remember my dad had a 82 mack superliner which clattered at first start up. I think i do remember hearing the air compresser from the rear though where the air tanks was located it would always make a tap tap tap. I don't remember hearing it from the from although it has been since 2005/2006

  • Man that sounds familiar

  • Check the lights in front and on back, and the tyres. And hit it hard, yeee!

  • sounds like my dads 77

  • I like it. sounds like my 81.

  • i wanted 2 see him pullin that camper around lmao

  • Very nice truck!

  • also knew that he can put a turbo N-14 to a big cam?

  • You can but they both used holsets there wouldn't be a difference i think.

  • 萌え☆

  • I sat out to build my own truck out of junk yard parts 1980 K100 cab over with a cummins big cam 3. If was my first truck back in 94 and since has seen 2 over hauls the second was done by me because the first was not done right. That motor has been all over the US and CA and never left me on the side of the road.

  • An oldy, but a goody.

  • Is it true that the Cummins N14 with the Big Cam "Mark III" was the last of the "good" ones due to the unreliability of the Big Cam "Mark IV" versions?

  • The N14 is considered an evolution of the Big Cam series and was leading to the first electronically controlled engines. They didn't start using the N14 moniker until after the Big Cam IV. I have never heard MK or Mark used with any of the Cummins engines. It doesn't appear in my manuals that way. The IV's problem was 2 fold. Touchy cooling system and mech's that didn't know how to work on it.

  • cpl is the set up of the engine...cpl # is what you order parts by from cummins...as they will all fit but stuff just wont work right

  • father drove many trucks that had the big cam cummins in it. I remember riding through 5 different trucks throughout my life with my dad that had big cams in them. 1 of them had the big cam 1, witch you dont see many of those around. you see alot of the 2's and 3's, mostly 3's. I dont see many of the big cam 4's around here and i can understand why. Three words. Pile of shit.

  • big cam 4 has 2 engines...the 444 and the 400...the 400 is better and holds up better...higher compression also...i have a 14 litre big cam 4 (step timed) and its a great engine. If you put the 444 turbo on a 400 its hot...just dont idle a lot.

  • How many of you used a Big Cam III Cummins 350 such as this to replace a naturally-aspirated equivalent 14-liter Cummins?

  • It is a 400. CPL is 625

  • What is CPL, anyway?

  • CPL is Control Parts List. Basically the specs of the build, pistons, cam, injection settings etc.

  • I used to drive one just like that, but with the steering wheel on the other side of the truck. the dash still looks the same. it was a 1978 model with the 400 big cam. tough trucks.

  • Know what? When you see the dash of the truck and when he is starting, it kind of remind me of the movie "Maximum overdrive" Nice vid, great, five stars!!

  • that could be restored

  • i just rebuilt a big cam last month... what a beast

  • man I forgot what the old dashs looked like thanks

  • nice truck!!

  • the big cam cummins was probally the best motor that cummins ever built. they sound sweet. they last for a good while. and there loud as hell when you strait pipe them. :D

  • My dads got a '84 big cam and it sounds just like this one.

  • That is a beautiful sound from a beautiful truck

  • Thanks. I hope to have it looking like new in the next few years. Lots of little things but I think I have a good one to work with.

  • stepped timing gotta love it

  • How can you tell it is stepped timing?

  • the sound of this beast. had the exact same engine and it was stepped timing. rock 1 set injector 3 ,6 ect

  • Is there anything external to the engine that you can see that makes it an STC engine? Last owner said all that stuff wasn't on this engine.. I am still learning.

  • you can also tell by the sound

  • Sounds like the Pete I drove this summer :D

  • a truck that old aint gonna hav a n14 and listen to it it is clearly a big cam cummins 400 prolly

  • hay is it a n14 5 1/4

  • No they hadn't been invented yet. This is a 1981, not a 1991.

  • Your just jealous because your parts are more expensive.

  • lol!

  • Thanks for preserving the Ol' Skool spirit. Us younger guys need to see that stuff.

  • I have owned it for 6 months. 3rd owner near as I can tell.

  • have u owned the truck since it was new.

  • sounds just like my beast..thnx 4 showing us around ur truck..

  • 12V electric

  • Is that an electric starter? If so, 12V or 24V?

  • 24 dumb ass

  • Good lookin' old girl. :D
