This performance was actually about 7 months before Metallica released the "black" ablum. But I totally agree. Dave has never worried about appealing to mass audiences and radio. He's always written songs that he knows his true fans will love.

That's partially why the album it titled "Risk" coupled with a supposed quote from Lars that "Dave doesn't take enough risks in his career". Dave knew the album would piss a lot of fans off and that some fans would still get into it just because it was Megadeth. There aren't many, but there are Megadeth fans that actually do like that ablum.

I think everything after RIP was compared to the first 4 albums. RIP is, in my opinion, the pinnacle of Megadeth. There will never be another album like it. I just saw Megadeth last night on the RIP 20 th anniversary tour. Wow. That's all I can say. The sheer power of seeing all those songs played live just blew me away.
