Love the SD boys....and all theyre other guises. love that clean amen chop, cuts like a fucking razor ! you just beat me to uploading this one way back when hahah....:-P
Man its been a while since i heard this, reminds me of how life changin DnB was to me, Goldie the metalheadz ,Dillinja, Lemon D, Source Direct. Bring back the Old SKOOL!!!!!!!
Source Direct *still* inspire me. Loved them in the 90s and still their dark sound. Used to love the Bukem/Fabio night called Speed. From 94 to 96. Source Direct tunes used to feature heavily there, to balance the sounds of the night (ranging from liquid through to bone crushing tunes). Anyway, reminiscing is sometimes bitter sweet :) - respect to all the headz from back in the day
'Amen' is a reference to the break originally sampled from the track 'Amen, Brother' by The Winstons released back in 69. It's probably the most sampled break, used widely throughout hip-hop, oldschool hardcore and jungle/dnb scene.
First time i heard this was on a Dr.S.Gachet tape from a london rave called 'energy' I swear me n my m8s used 2 hammer that tape, we heard it at a rave in birmingham randall dropped it and trust no-one left the dancefloor. It was more like a mosh pit, but 4 all these years i never knew who it was by. It's only by listening to 'snake style' i saw the link to this!! Without a doubt 1 of my all time favorite darkside amen tracks, so buzzin i can finally put a name to it. Altogether now...
first time i heard this tune was on an LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad tape from Vibealite in 94 or 95 cant remember but it was the last tune and i bet when Conrad started bellowing over this fucker you can guarantee that all the happy hardcore ravers that were in Venue 44 at the time shat themselves and decided to leave early!!!! absolutely huge tune , still gets a play when i get out my highly collectable box from that era. and like everyone else says the bass really does get to your inner soul. D E E P
You need access to a good studio, commercial or at your yard, and a good set of ears, plus access to atleast 3 different setups for referencing. A copy of Reason or Logic if you can afford a G5, a couple of spliffs worth, and a good 8 hours. BIG TUNE, hurt your bassbins.
Later they produced on their Source Direct label under the name Hokusai due to restrictions by Virgin/Science. Other source direct classics: Snake Style, Black Rose, Web of sin, Stonekiller, Capital D to name a few.
Its just an Amen break with the odd bit of phasing on it (and much skills from Phil and Jim). You can download it easily, 6 second loop from the Winstons 'Amen Brother' classic funk tune. Stick it in Recycle, export as REX file. Chuck it in Dr Rex and off you go.
It's a 6 second drum beat which was on the B-side of a song aages ago. It is the most sampled drum beat ever, and it's similar or the same to most drum beats used in drum n bass. Youtube it
not my cup of tea, too scatty and massively overhyped...he's even admitted himself he has no idea why people buy his records. i know the reason though...pretentiousness
Pretty late reply, but I've been mostly a DnB guy, although lately I've been researching Aphex a bit and I liked 'Crying in your Face', 'Fenix Funk 5', 'Flim', 'Xtal', 'XMD 5a', 'AFX Acid 05'. You should try these.
Unfortunately though, yeah, it's AWESOME stuff, buried in a load of crap.
I have that, im very 50/50 about it, they took a different direction for it, hard to explain. its still ace though! i'll be uploading more of their stuff sometime soon, got a big house move on the cards before i get back onto it though!
crikey, hard one...i love so many very much, depends on my mood. so going on the mood im in RIGHT now, i'd say intensity, part've their x-files project
