  • Man its been a while since i heard this, reminds me of how life changin DnB was to me, Goldie the metalheadz ,Dillinja, Lemon D, Source Direct. Bring back the Old SKOOL!!!!!!!

  • Right up there on the very top of the stack with the f***ing sickest tunes ever and forever no doubt.

This is one of those rare records that just hits all the right switches.

Well in lads, a true gift to the ear drums every time.

    Grit.

  • Source Direct *still* inspire me. Loved them in the 90s and still their dark sound. Used to love the Bukem/Fabio night called Speed. From 94 to 96. Source Direct tunes used to feature heavily there, to balance the sounds of the night (ranging from liquid through to bone crushing tunes). Anyway, reminiscing is sometimes bitter sweet :) - respect to all the headz from back in the day

  • True Masters.

  • Monster Track! Love it! Still have it as Vinyl!

  • Making lots of music like this at the moment ...Made a 10 track CD for my friends using only the Amen break and various soft synths.

    Dubstep?!?! You mad?

  • Are you alright over there? Dubstep?

  • @SuperBigMan27 u uneducated animal!!

  • hardest amen track? listen to kemit krew, the box re-opened

That tune, although good, is not even in the same league.

  • @sekwah09

'Amen' is a reference to the break originally sampled from the track 'Amen, Brother' by The Winstons released back in 69. It's probably the most sampled break, used widely throughout hip-hop, oldschool hardcore and jungle/dnb scene.

  • search on youtube for 'the worlds most important break sample' and theres a whole video dedicated to explaining it's history

  • Cheers Hypercatjohn!

  • @sekwah09

if you are out of touch with some of the d n b scene lingo then you shouldn't be here in the first place :)

  • @ooosanteooo

    Shut up!

  • badass amen breaks

  • hardest amen track? listen to kemit krew, the box re-opened, then tell me what you think, better still listen to brainkillers, screwface

  • one of the best

    Great Memories for me!

  • got this record somewhere. just one of those timeless tunes. pendulum, close the door on your way out

  • @bolter30dog Dont let the door hit you where the good Lord split ye ya Pendalum wanks!!!

  • Legendary SD tune...Amazing!!!

  • should it be introduced to rza?

  • good luck mixin this one ;) deeper level bizniss, used to love listenin to this on Bukem sets

  • piece of piss mixing this! straight up looped 4/4 amen...sounds amazing but it's hardly the most complex break ever

  • @hypercatjohn indeed. I have a fair few SD releases that are pure brain fuck to mix compared to this one. Ah, the joys of Source Direct :)

  • @hypercatjohn what do you mean? i found it easy to mix.

  • @hypercatjohn hidden camera: photek. now that needs a little care and attention whilst blending

  • @hypercatjohn Someones never heard the original amen cause if you think this is 'straight up looped 4/4 amen' it kinda proves it...

  • @Loofafa ltj was a very savage dj

  • Luv this track, the phone line use to go mad to this one up radio

  • First time i heard this was on a Dr.S.Gachet tape from a london rave called 'energy' I swear me n my m8s used 2 hammer that tape, we heard it at a rave in birmingham randall dropped it and trust no-one left the dancefloor. It was more like a mosh pit, but 4 all these years i never knew who it was by. It's only by listening to 'snake style' i saw the link to this!! Without a doubt 1 of my all time favorite darkside amen tracks, so buzzin i can finally put a name to it. Altogether now...

    HYAH!!

  • bad tune

  • How dare you!

  • by bad tune he means good...gots to learn yo street talk man :P

  • Lol. ;x

Not much into that, don't really get in contact with it either.

  • BAD AS GOOD ,FUCKING HEADCASE???

  • Buy it.

  • EPIC TUNE!

  • first time i heard this tune was on an LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad tape from Vibealite in 94 or 95 cant remember but it was the last tune and i bet when Conrad started bellowing over this fucker you can guarantee that all the happy hardcore ravers that were in Venue 44 at the time shat themselves and decided to leave early!!!! absolutely huge tune , still gets a play when i get out my highly collectable box from that era. and like everyone else says the bass really does get to your inner soul. D E E P

  • my favourite tune by SD

    bo bo bob bobobobobobobobo

  • You need access to a good studio, commercial or at your yard, and a good set of ears, plus access to atleast 3 different setups for referencing. A copy of Reason or Logic if you can afford a G5, a couple of spliffs worth, and a good 8 hours. BIG TUNE, hurt your bassbins.

  • lol i meant to reply to another comment, it dont matter. Darkness in the Jungle!

  • AWESOME!!!

I love the ambient background noise. That bass shakes me to the core... :)

  • TUUUUUUUNE!!!

  • Classic SD amens! Reminds me of a smoky Brunel Rooms boxed on the dancefloor! Heavy stuff.

  • Dubstep - take note!!

  • dubstep doesnt have anything on this, bunch of fucking schoolgirls compared to the real deal.

  • hardest amen track ive ever heard. this thing is an absolute stomper!!

  • Amen horror .....real nasty

  • Love this track straight

    check my channel

  • this is real darkness... wicked tune

  • real terror

  • Amazing Tune - Unbelievable Bass on my speakers Cant get more off it :D

  • geniuses

  • Does anybody know what label the track was released on? I just started listening to source direct, 2 words: simply amazing

  • Label was their own "Source Direct Recordings".

"The Crane" was only one classic on that label.

Later they produced on their Source Direct label under the name Hokusai due to restrictions by Virgin/Science. Other source direct classics: Snake Style, Black Rose, Web of sin, Stonekiller, Capital D to name a few.

  • This track is so sick I think I got a fever.

  • hypercatjohn(noun) = Known to be the sickest Man to play/post only the sickest, disgusting, hardest, Mindblowing, dirtest Jungle tracks on YouTube.

  • Deep Darkside sounds BAD!!!!!!!!

  • word. good call on the username by the way ;)

  • Anyone got any ReFills with a drumkit like this?

  • could buy/download the record and capture a loop in reloop

  • Yeah maybe. I'll keep looking for the time being. Ta for the help.

  • or fl slicer

  • Its just an Amen break with the odd bit of phasing on it (and much skills from Phil and Jim). You can download it easily, 6 second loop from the Winstons 'Amen Brother' classic funk tune. Stick it in Recycle, export as REX file. Chuck it in Dr Rex and off you go.

  • Oh yeah, I recently watched that documentary with the Amen breaks in. Thanks for reminded me man.

  • whats an amen break? :-S

  • It's a 6 second drum beat which was on the B-side of a song aages ago. It is the most sampled drum beat ever, and it's similar or the same to most drum beats used in drum n bass. Youtube it

  • brutal

  • Real sick

  • God Dayyyymmm!! That amen rinse out at 2:45 onwards it proper!! BRROOCKKK OOUUTT!!

  • what!! a! TUNE!!!!!!

  • hypercatjohn, what do you tihnk of aphex twin?

    just curious:P

  • not my cup of tea, too scatty and massively overhyped...he's even admitted himself he has no idea why people buy his records. i know the reason though...pretentiousness

  • what do you mean by scatty?

also i only like window licker, the rest sound like musical jibberish

  • haha, wouldnt call it musical jibberish, just wouldnt say its my cup of tea. he does some awesome dark as fuck jungle sets though!

  • i find aphex twin often buries some really good work amongst a pile of crap, but the Richard D James album is pretty consistent

  • absolutely, he's the REM of the electronica world, few amazing tracks buried amongst a huge crap pile of crappy pileyness

  • Pretty late reply, but I've been mostly a DnB guy, although lately I've been researching Aphex a bit and I liked 'Crying in your Face', 'Fenix Funk 5', 'Flim', 'Xtal', 'XMD 5a', 'AFX Acid 05'. You should try these.

Unfortunately though, yeah, it's AWESOME stuff, buried in a load of crap.

  • all gud.

  • source direct is godly compared to pendulum etc

  • Laughable that they're even mentioned in the same sentence, you're DEAD right though!

  • :)

    just ordered exorcise the demons.

    cant wait

  • I have that, im very 50/50 about it, they took a different direction for it, hard to explain. its still ace though! i'll be uploading more of their stuff sometime soon, got a big house move on the cards before i get back onto it though!

  • what is your favourite SD song, of all time?

  • crikey, hard one...i love so many very much, depends on my mood. so going on the mood im in RIGHT now, i'd say intensity, part've their x-files project

  • atm ui like call & response

  • yeah its mega heavy, very very dark sounding too. check out the sentinel tracks on my profile as well, theyre by photek..fucking amazing

  • I like Stonekiller. You heard it?

  • New drum and bass is good, but nothing can beat this old stuff - new artist always emphasize on technique, but these older DJs placed heavier emphasis on feeling and atmosphere...

    Thanks for this Hypercatjohn!

  • I'd honestly really say 'technique' is hardly something new artists feature on, think about the complexity in the breaks on these tracks, the only people who're making tracks now who remotely compare are paradox, seba, krazy...that typa selection of people. this outweighs new records in all departments!

  • GREAT drum and bass!big up hypercatjohn!

    Your the man!!!!!

  • u forgot Aphex twin

  • ???

  • Awesome tune.

  • heavy tune

  • source direct, exodus , photek, thank you for your inspiration

  • Beats, bass, an eerie pad and a helluva lot of weird samples. Love it!

  • this song is fucking brutal. i've got my system cranked up so loud it's crushing my skull.

    love it

  • amazing! incredible! im in a coma...

  • Hell Yeah!! Big Props for adding this! Damn, I need this track. Can you make an MP3 for me? :-)Please? aim: outsource78

  • soulseek is a mans best friend ;)

  • photek, source direct, digital and for those of you not in the know, you gotta peep some paradox, hes by far the most underated of d&b producers eva, this is source direct at there best for real !

  • got pleeeeeeenty of paradox, theres lots available on here from arcon2 as well, seba and lotek, krazy as well...theyre all pushing future sounds

  • haha, yeah, i just found out after i looked on here thers loads of paradox !

  • Mate do you have 'Concealed Identity?', if you do could you upload as this is a sick track too and I can't find it anywhere

  • nasty.

  • one of the best

  • Aaaaarrgh ;*) Ya beat me to it. I was listening to this tune the other day tryin to decide if i wanted to upload. Glad ya did.

  • possibly their best? i just cant get over that break and the use of that oh so simple sample, so gutted they went their seperate ways. gotta be better to be like that then go the route of photek and lose all integrity though!

  • im with you on that

  • mate you can upload the tune from the other side: Artificial Barriers ;)

  • will do tomorrow my friend!

  • that would be great! thanks

  • this track would be good as a background for some underground graffiti movie. night, trains and adrenaline

  • sweet track.. love dem snares !

  • Finally! Thanks man, now I can hide my peace of SD opuses ))

  • HARD

  • Yeah! You can always trust source direct to do it! Was playin Exorcise the Demons today! Photeks boys come correct again!

  • split up a while ago unfortunately! sending you a pm.
