@MaximTheBeast That's a novel way to decide if you like an artists, when you come across a new artists how do you ascertain if they wear eye makeup do you look for photos, obviously in that particular photo they may have eye make up on, then you'd know straight away, but if they didn't it could just be a photo where they don't have it on perhaps you could send a questionnaire to the record company, I suppose that's most female artists out then I can't think of any that don' wear eye makeup.
@MaximTheBeast we've all been there brother, ha ha I know what you mean thou, when you see male pop starts wearing makeup it does smack of them trying a bit too hard, it seemed to be the thing to do in 70's and 80's Boy George, Adam Ant, Kiss Etc, anyway you enjoy operating your computer drunk while you can, they'll probably make it illegal soon :)
The Silicon Teens were my first exposure to the wonderful Mute Records, in August 1979. Who could have guessed what was just about to unfold back then!
They had several singles and an album called Music For Parties which is now on CD where you will find all their releases (16 songs in all). You can get it on Amazon for around a fiver. Enjoy!
Had not seen this vid until last night, when a clip featured on the BBC4 "Synth Britannia" documentary - I bought this album (on vinyl of course) over 25yrs ago and wonder if there's a CD copy available...? Love it !!!!
I like the way they keep going back to that band shot and pulling back. That sort of mild, visual maddness is very Residents to me, and thus A-ok in my book. :)
As well as a cameo performance by the greatly missed Frank Tovey, The Captain who desperately leading his crew in and out of the action is none other than the late Robert Calvert of Hawkwind fame. Ever in touch with all things innovative Calvert had already embraced the brave new world of synthesizers and had composed and performed in a one man stage show 'The Kid from Silicon Gulch' another very underrated star in the early synth Pantheon.
Personal on the video are, with microphone and playback singer Frank Tovey from Fad Gadget R.I.P (seem to be here as a guest) and of course Mr Daniel Miller behind the legendary Arp 2600 synthesizer.
Of course the band were produced by Mute Records 2 years before Depeche Mode. In 1978 Mute were a very small indie label with only The Normal (Daniel Miller solo project), Boyd Rice (Mr US Noise) and Fad Gadget.
ah, memories - i've still got the album 'music for parties' - it's full of 50/60's tunes done in this synthy style. i always remember the bum note on this tune, listen out for it at 2:09
A Chuck Berry cover played on ARP 2600 and Wasp synths. Very nice and minimized. I'd prefer Daniel Millers solo work as The Normal or with Robert Rental and as Duet Emmo a bit more than this project. But good to see this old and rare goody with Fad Gadget/Frank Tovey.
So I'm told, yes. Singer/player Daniel Miller is one of the keyboard players (the one to the left, saying "Take it away"). Don't know who the others are, or why this video was made. It seems a very lavish production, must have cost a hundred times what it cost to make the record.

Who are the people in the video? I thought the silicon teens was a "band" with fictional members and that the music was made by Daniel Miller alone?
FlickaIGarderob 9 months ago
@FlickaIGarderob That is correct. The people in the video (apart from the guy on the far right who is Daniel Miller) were actors.

The only thing I could hate most is pop artist that wear makeup on their eyes, other than that it's good

I remember John Peel starting a show with this. Before declaring how much he loved it and instantly playing it again. Wonderful stuff.

This is classic 179-80 electronic synth from the UK ... Daniel Miller ... God of synth production. He left his mark on too many bands to name.
