@CSavageSr Most talented? You're kidding, right? I will give you best looking and his voice was amazing, but Ric Ocasek sang most songs, was primary songwriter and even became a producer. On top of that, he was humble enough to give Orr, his good friend, some great songs to sing.
I think you are letting your attraction to Orr cloud your judgment.
I don't know how you know what his Tat looks like, but thank you for the info. I don't want to comment to you and ruin your beautiful post. Lots of us don't know too much about Benjamin. Thank you for letting us know.
Ps....I sure hope you knew him personally, if so, you are one of the few - blessed-
I wished that I would have known that when I saw Ben and The Cars on this tour that I would never get to see him alive again. God Bless Ben Orr, in my opinion (I am a musician) the coolest rocker to ever take the stage. What presence, the dude just drips with cool.
Oh damn!!...u kids r so lucky that ur girlfriends r NOT doing that 'short hair' thing 0:33. So many HOT chicks, w/ HOT bodies, and that ugly ass hair cut ruined it!! But since all the other girls were doin' it...well, hey, "I wanna be cool too"...NOT cool!!
One of the worst memories of the 80's!!...it only worked on Pat Benetar. I still blame Dorothy Hammill.
That the Lord that this song reminds me of Phoebe Kates and leg warmers, instead of foolish hair.
AHHHH the Summit in Houston..ive seen so many shows there i cant remember them all..now its the Joel Olsteen church..I bet u can still smell the dope!!
Love his guitar riff near the end of the song Ben on bass, everytime I hear it now I know that was him! Funny how video changes everything, They had an advantage with dual lead singers , loved them singing together but their lead vocal songs is what set the songs apart, I love most except some of the 80's ones are definitely dated, but the popular ones like Drive, Dangerous Type, Double-Trouble etc, are timeless also:)
So many think that Ric Ocasek was the only singer for The Cars, but Mr. Orr (RIP) sang lead on a number of their bigger songs. I wish sometimes I could go back to my youth in the early to mid 80s!
The people who dislike this video are pro-war idiots who support Obama's borrowing money from China and spending billions in U.S. tax dollars to invade and brutally occupy sovereign nations in the middle east, creating more deficit, more enemies and acting as an imperialist Hitler type when the money should be spent to create new jobs and help our own people while bringing home the troops and putting them to work protecting Americans on U.S. soil. Ric Ocasek for President 2012
I still have the ticket stub from their Reno concert back in '84. Ben Orr was top-notch; unfortunately the lead guitarist, Elliot-what's-his-name and Ric Ocasek were a total snooze. Wang Chung opened for them and gave a far better performance, which ticked me off as I had been a die-hard Cars fan. I saw Ben Orr in the 90's and he performed Drive with that awesome voice of his. He died two years later-total bummer as he was the real talent in the Cars.
Seeing The Cars tomorrow night... Can't wait cause I'll be singing "Bye Bye Love" trying to be "Moving In Stereo" and "Shake It Up" while we "Drive" to the ShowBox in Seattle to see them perform "My Best Friend's Girlfriend" which "You Might Think" is a "Sad Song" but it's "Just What I Needed" for someone of the "Dangerous Type" or that's "All Mixed Up" but in reality it's just "Magic" in "Heartbeat City" for "Candy-O" to say "Hello Again"and "Let The Good Times Roll".. peace and RIP Ben
Still sounds amazingly fresh to this day. The Cars first 2 albums were incredibly ahead of their time. RIP Ben, you are sorely missed to this day. Maybe it's a good thing you went when you did, that way you don't have to hear the crap being played by today's artists.
I saw the Cars on their Door to Door tour in Indianapolis as their run was winding down. This song wasn't a favorite of mine but that night the amped it up (at least in my mind, probably not really) and this was the best song of the whole show. I still remember that repeating simple bass note over and over and how loud it was. I think even they were surprised at the crowd's reaction. The even smiled which is something is seemed they rarely did. One of my coolest concert memories.
Ben Orr is dead. But he really looked good back then. I bet he had chicks lining up to be with him after that H-town show. Outstanding song Ben. May you rest in peace. Most guys can only dream of having a life like yours.
@corrections189 hey man, Rick did more than well. Look who he married, the best 80's supermodel in the world. and they are still together. he gets to wake up next to her every morning. no rock star did better than Rick!
I'm really glad they didn't decide to replace Ben on bass, but Hawkes is filling in for him, and Ric will do a pretty good job of mimicking Ben if they do this or Drive. As for writing, didn't matter much, because Ric wrote everything for the most part.
this isnt complex or "better" music and it definitely aint more complex than the music today, listen to it and analyze it. a catchy extremly simple and short melody & cheap synthesizers all the way... it sounds good, no doubt and i love this track, but the statement that its better or more complex is just plain dumb.
Great song but sucky video, except for Ben of course. What's the big deal about some average looking skinny chick taking off her top? Happens all the time. She ain't hot or got much anyway. Many women are better than that. People are weird and pigs (men). So stupid. Wonder who' idea it was to put that vid in the show? Hmmmm..... Ric is in it too : /
The Cars were truly great. They bridged a gap between hard- heavy rock like Led Zep, pot head, partyer music and new wave-punk, spiked hair music. They appealed to so many , the first two albums especially. No other band was like them. One of those things where the right bunch of people at the right time came together and the magic just happened and they knew when to call it quits too.
Fellow fans, I found a report on The Cars Facebook that states that there is some talk about nominating them for Rock and Roll hall of Fame induction. I'm sure we all agree it is long overdue. @hazeltyler89 you are going to get you chance! After 23 years the 4 living members of the Cars are getting back together to record a new album and tour!!!
When I first heard this song I was totally blown away. The Cars were a new sound in the mainstream. Maybe not underground, but they were something new on the radio.
@sharpenedskull Don't you see the circular logic here? You could argue that classical musicians are much better than these guys because they play more complex music. To most people its not about the musicianship, its about the art, its about the emotion, and most of all its about what is catchy.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Just Want To Say Thanks For Making My Video "This Is The Worst Song Ever Recorded-Agree Or Disagree" Popular On Youtube And Thanks For All The Views....Peace Out...
The Cars were often criticised for performing live exactly as the song sounded on album. I never thought that was a bad thing. This is a great example.
I never heard it in any movie and I'm glad, because it would've ruined it for me as this was always one of my favorite songs by them. Thanks Ben for making it special.

@sharpenedskull Don't you see the circular logic here? You could argue that classical musicians are much better than these guys because they play more complex music. To most people its not about the musicianship, its about the art, its about the emotion, and most of all its about what is catchy.

The Cars were often criticised for performing live exactly as the song sounded on album. I never thought that was a bad thing. This is a great example.

Ah yes The Summit. Many a great rock and roll show was held there. Now it's full of bible pounding Jesus freaks and money changers.

This song has always been great on it's own...away from some dumb movie.

Houston, The Summit, 1984 and of course the legendary Cars. Priceless and Classic!

I never heard it in any movie and I'm glad, because it would've ruined it for me as this was always one of my favorite songs by them. Thanks Ben for making it special.
