This song was in the Patrice Leconte film "la Fille sur le Pont" (a wonderful movie, by the way...), I've discovered it thanks to the film and have been looking for it since then.
If anyone knows if this song is available on CD, please let me know!!
I can't give you all my dreams Nor the life I live. You and I know what friendship means, That's all we got to give. Who will take your dreams away Takes your soul another day. What can never be lost is gone, It's stolen in a way. Please, don't stand too close to me, Can you hear my heart ? Take my warmth and lean on me When we're not apart. Now our mission is complete And our friends are hid. Evil things brought down by the light, Life goes on until the end.

This song is less annoying now that I know it's not being sung by a guy. Still, does anyone really like this or are they just being nice to an old lady?
For the few people who didn't already know this, the song is at the end of the french film "The City of Lost Children" and the song fits masterfully. Weird, weird movie but ultimately rewarding. Ends on kind of a high note but then this song comes on and you say "whoa....I just got my ass kicked..."

This song is so gorgeous. I wrote the lyrics down and put them in the pocket of my best friend at his wake so that he would be cremated with it. He too was a heroin addict but unlike Marianne he just could not kick his habit. Anyway thank you for posting this video. It would have been a great song on a Faithfull album.
@classic20 Hi there! Any luck with the search? I cannot find it either. Somebody said I could try the album "The Cinema de Patrice Leconte (Bande Originale) but it's practically not available.... ;(
@klimkovsky Sure! What I posted was: search on google for: youtube to mp3 and click I'm feeling lucky! Then at the site that just opened, put the link of the Marianne Faithful song and convert it to an MP3 file and download it! Hope that helped...
i AM A Great fan of yours.i Have watched so many videous on YOU TUBE it is my Favourite Channel on the internet A Big THANK YOU TO YOU TUBE YOUR CHANNEL IS BRILLIANT.I HAVE FOUND my favourite videous on you tube i would have no chance of watching anywhere else.

Now I get it: the version you suggest me has a different title and a different intro. This is why I couldn't recognize it in the mp3 website I checked first (they only give 30 sec. preview). By the way, if anyone know where the version with no intro is (the version used by Laconte in "The girl on the bridge"), let me know. Else, thank you anyway as now I know I can have the long version at least :)
Someone has just put up the long 6 min version of this on YTube search for "Gary City Lost Children.wmv". It has the creepy musicbox into and instrumental ending. Also check out the film clips for "City Of Lost Children" the best French film ever !!!
Actually called "Who Will Take YOUR Dreams Away", with orchestration by Angelo Badalamenti. The first film in which this song (which was written by Marianne) was used was called "City of Lost Children" (Cite des Enfants Perdus) and is available on a CD of the Soundtrack released by Polygram in 1995. The lyric is written especially for "City of Lost Children" and speaks of the themes of that movie. Used in other films since.
I just wrote: "who will take my dreams away" on the searcher and a list with the song appear. If not, try writing just marianne faithful and see the songs that appear on the list to download.
I agree about the song, I too got struck while watching the titles. But please, the movie was quite depressing. One of the saddest movies I have watched in my life.
This is a masterpiece of melancholy.
Experiencing beauty like this makes me strangely thankful for depression.
