  • when i invert the instrumental the entire wave form disappears...

  • Thanks you very much. This is really useful.

  • god thats alot of work :( is there like an easier way? i have like more than 300 tracks that i need to edit with in 3 days because im gonna be homeless after that :(

  • Interesting technique, but most of the time the waveforms of the two tracks just don't match that well and you can't extract clean vocals. IMO you're better off getting Adobe Audition and using the center channel extractor effect.

  • @TheSapphireTalent this is how get REMOVE the backing so you just have the sound.

  • THIS DOES NOT WORK!!!! STOP LYIN TO US

  • Haha how embarrassing, I didn't know that you could slide one track next to the other. (3:13) I would always delete ultra tiny silent portions of one of the tracks and hope it would line up well with the other (Which was a HUGE pain!). XD

Thanks for showing me this, it was a huge help in making my projects sound better, and making my life easier! (Well, the next one, I mean. I'm in the middle of doing one now, so I can't start using the slide tool until I do the next song.)

  • can you help me,please?

  • Hello there! how are you?

    can help me,please?

  • I know it seems lazy of me, but do you think I can send you the tracks and you isolate the audio for me? I can't match it up

  • this shit doesnt work

  • Wow this is POINTLESS because why would you need to extract the vocals if you already have the instrumental. DUH.

  • @IUploadTheOC

doh! he wants the vocals, not the instrumental!

  • @IUploadTheOC for remixes, if you have just the vocals it's easier to make remixes to songs.

  • @TheHowToMac...nice vid.

but how do you remove the background feedbackk???

  • You know this would be SO helpful for me, if only I could FIND the instrumental for ATC - 'Around the World'... can anyone help?? : (

  • @slimspan how about just search for it on youtube? -.-

    /watch?v=mLpcYmcCg8I

  • Will a "good" karaoke instrumental work, if a proper instrumental track was never released for the song?

  • THESE TUTORIALS DON'T WORK, THEY NEVER WORK, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!

  • @DannyShaubolo then you don't know how to do it obviously...it's pretty damn clear...and yes this does work...

  • @007mano1 no it doesn't i tried this about five times, it doesn't cancel out anything!

  • @DannyShaubolo it's not ment to cancel out everything, as long as you do what the video tells you to do including the inverting of your drums it should pretty much be accapella, mind you there will always be a bit of beats lefts, never 100% listen to the song he did and you ll hear it too...Ive been producing for almost 20+ years and up untill now there is not one software I know of that cancel 100% except for when you have a frequency killer...and even then it s still never 100%

  • @007mano1 it doesn't cancel out anything, that's the problem, I've tried it 5 times, it doesn't cancel out the music at all, do i have to make a video to prove it or something!?

  • @DannyShaubolo copy the dll, when you installed audacity, you should go to the folder where it was installed, click to open it and the plugins folder should be there...click to open the plug-in folder and copy and paste it there, that should do it...?!

  • i just had law of attraction i was listening to lupe fiasco before i searched on how to use audacity and chose a random vid wher your useing an instrumental he used lol nice vid

  • My instrumental is still louder than my vocals..

    anyone can help?

  • @star9388 try to compress the instrumental before you do the invert...hope that helps

  • @007mano1 compress?? how?

  • @star9388 open audacity, click the effects menu, follow the dropdown menu and click compressor, there you go...enjoy have a nice day...

  • @007mano1 thanks! =3

  • doesnt work -_-

  • What if you can't get an instrumental..?

  • Holy. Shit.

Drake - "Say Something" is the song I came to this tutorial for!!!

  • i dont know how to put the instrumental on the bottom and the regular song on the top

  • where do i find an instrumental?

  • @djvance13 Google's your friend.

  • @SamandDalesMixes i can't find crap on google... lol

  • @djvance13 haha! type in blacklabbled on google, or hiphopdownloadz, that's what I use :)

  • Thank you!

  • so, i've been trying to create a non-vocal version of the audio for the video John Stalvern: Be Kill By Demons for hours. this approach is the only one i've found when you are using audacity. is there another way to complete this task? because i would really like that audio.

  • I did a vocal remover, and it works beautifully, but after inverting, nothing happened...it just made the instruments louder. Maybe I'm just being a dolt, but are there other routes? Or remedies?

  • I inverted but the instrumental is still LOUD!

  • wow thats really hard to do

  • Lol Why would you want to remove the lyrics if you already have the instrumental?

  • @OrpheusZero He's getting the vocals out of the track no taking them out! ><

  • @JamesXButlin I mean like if you already have the instrumental version of a song, what would be the point of taking out the vocals out a song?

  • @OrpheusZero Because you can then use the vocals to make mixes of songs you like! like i'm going to do with this > soundcloud(dot)com/jamesbutlin/linkin-parx-1 :)

  • Hi, i have to load the mp3 2 times right?

Because i loaded only one time and i cant see the second track..

  • @barbelotta Is your mp3 loading in mono? You should be loading in the instrumental once and the full song once. The reason it's showing 2 tracks for him is because both of his mp3's are in stereo.

  • @lpris i need 2 diferent files? one the instrumental and the other the normal song and load in stereo?

  • @barbelotta Yes. Otherwise you will basically cancel out the whole song, including vocals.

  • I wonder where to get or buy instrumentals?

  • That's not extraction, it's cancellation.

  • I did the same song as you did, but it didn't work. AND THEY'RE PERFECTLY LINED UP!!!! Please help me out.

  • What song is that?

  • If you already have the instrumental, why are you trying to remove the vocals from the actual song?

  • @iHairybug to get the acapella thats why its a tut for getting the vocals without the instrument

  • Hey! I tried to do this with a LMFAO sexy and i know it song, but it just doesnt work.. i think i've got the exact version of instrumental.. But maybe one song is a bit faster or st? ..so i was wondering if i could first remove the vocals from this song so it would become an instrumental and then use this one as my second track while trying to get vocals from the original..?

  • I have the song The Adventure by Angels And Airwaves the song and the exact instrumental and nothing happens at all

  • Comment removed

  • ok... how do you remove the staticy stuff

  • Comment removed

  • how do you do it if there isnt an instrumental

  • I can't seem to do it. Do they need to both be stereo tracks, because I use one stereo (the vocal one) and a mono (the instrumental one)

  • will this work with like videos? like to take out the vocals and leave the sound effects like footsteps, glass shattering, etc?

  • Comment removed

  • vos si sos lo maximo.. ese curso tuyo esta una chimba

  • how can i easily match the volume?

  • man i thought the song was gonna be jin

  • WOW! That is awesome. Thank you!

  • Won't really work for me... i dont know why, i followed it exactly. Do you recommend any other program(Doesn't necessarily have to be a free program)?

  • Thanks helped me out a lot. I was trying to make a dubstep track for a friend of a country song that hasn't already been remixed. and I needed the vocals but not the music. Word up.

  • Will this work if i want the audio and not the music?

  • tutorial doesn't suck, this IS the way the first step of DIY acapellas are done and he gets bonus points for using open source software. he does explain the physics of what's happening for way too long but apparently most people skipped through that part anyways

  • Not gonna lie.. this tutorial sucked.

  • @Dzhambik6 Your cancelling out the "Instrumental" in the real song, and therefore the Vocals of the real song is showed

  • Doesn't work, or at least for me it doesn't. I spent a good hour or so messing around downloading, aligning peaks and troughs to see if they would almost be a perfect fit, switching songs to find something I can align easily. I finally was able to align NIN Closer perfectly with the kick drum helping out and all....

  • doesnt work

  • it will not let me do any effects! please help

  • @cmeballin97 hit the stop button.. then try to use the effects.

  • it doesn't work

  • 0:00 - 5:00 Watching him align tracks

    5:00 - 5:24 How to do it

  • what if there is no instrumental version for free?

  • Most useless and ineffective tutorial ever. Thanks.

  • @Dzhambik6 the instrumental version cancels out the instrumental track and leaves just the vocals

  • worked like a dream> thanks for the help. i was originally trying to extract with the same method but it would always be off by that little bit because i was lining up before i inverted. didnt even think to try that .

  • Only for Mac and windows? thats strange cause i have it for Linux...

  • @Dzhambik6

learn your physics kid. its called superimposing waves, this is how noise cancel headphones work...it replicated opposing waves to cancel non wanted sound waves

  • This vid was pretty helpfull to me ^ ^ Thanks for throwing the advice out there =D

  • i spent a fucking hour matching up the song because it was out of tempo only to realize it DOESNT FUCKING WORK

  • but....why ??

  • @Dzhambik6 You subtract the instrumental from the full song. In other words: Full Song = Instrumental + Acapella. Therefore, Full Song - Instrumental = Acapella.

  • can you use this method for taking out vocals too?

  • That didn't work for me at all.

  • If it's a semi-decent song, the instrumental doesn't exist. =/

  • it needs quite a bit of cleaning afterwards but man asdfjkl;! amazing! FAVD

of course this may not work fro most people i use this for vocaloid and similar musik~

but until a 'vocal isolator' is released ill b using this :D

  • you did not explain how to separate the vocals or how the buttons work. thumbs down

  • 0:30 - 0:36 that's the only thing that i will never understand as long as i'm in my country

  • thanks for helping me!

  • @Dzhambik6 its called interference and its a physical phenomenon

  • @Dzhambik6 GREAT question. I thought it was (INSTRUMENTAL&VOCAL - INSTRUMENTAL = VOCAL) LOL

  • @Dzhambik6

    Everyone can't be smart :/

  • @Dzhambik6 Since you obviously didn't get it when he explained it, when you inverse the instrumental it will cancel out the instrument sounds in the regular song, leaving the acapella. The sound waves (that you can see depicted as the blue lines) are flipped. Think of the peaks as a positive and the troughs as a negative, when you flip only one of the tracks and play them together they combine to equal zero so there is no sound.

  • @Dzhambik6 Could you be more of a self-righteous patronizing asshole? People are just trying to learn how to make music, and just because you're so fucking fortunate to be more ahead of the game than some of us doesn't mean you can treat everybody like an idiot. Grow a conscious, dickweed.

  • @ekawapeelsa You know what? I actually bothered to try explaining it in the simplest way I could, so yeah, I COULD be a more self-righteous patronizing asshole as you so eloquently put it. As it was also pointed out, the need for the instrumental track was indeed already explained in the video, and if you don't know what a trough or a peak is you obviously didn't pay attention to grade school science class.

  • @ekawapeelsa We can grow conscious now?! I want one! Where to buy?

  • doesnt Work!

  • can you make one that is just written like a step by step as well? It would be appreciated a lot. Thank you!

  • mac is for fags

  • @Dzhambik6

Are you retarded? He spent the better part of 2 minutes explaining why

  • Thank you !!!!!

  • Nice

The more acapella makin the better. Do u make them for people. I'm a DJ an mix alot of CPU pellas. So I always try get rare pellas. Hit me bk up

  • hey can anyone help me out!? totally new to audacity and pretty poor with computers in general. i'm gonna sound like an idiot. so i have the original, i have the instrumental. how do i get them both up on the screen?! ha please enlighten

  • @jenniforn took me a few tries, but you have to go to import and then select the songs you want. that allows you to put both tracks on one screen :)

  • Great potential ...

If ONLY you toned down the WAY-TOO-LOUD first intro, AND rehearsed or at least edited the video.

  • @Dzhambik6 it's just like having 2 layers in photoshop and putting one on "subtract".

  • How can I do this with a song that I used to remove the vocals according to your other tutorial. They are both separate and putting them together undo's the effect.

  • @Dzhambik6 makes sense to me, like a spot the difference thing

  • @Dzhambik6 because it reads the instruments and deletes them from the song

  • Can Some one pleaase tell me how to make a remix with 3 verses from different songs into one ... if u know what i mean ... reply please

  • ....the song is exactly the same as before.....

  • this did not work. i followed it step by step idk how many times. still vocals with instrumental

  • Awesome video! Really helped a lot.

  • u forgot pc dick

  • Comment removed

  • @Dzhambik6 Think of it as a math problem. The regular track has vocals (+), and background noise (-). The instrumental only has (-). The two negatives cancel out, leaving only the (+), or the vocals. I don't know how good you are at math, so I probably just did more damage than help, but that's the only way it makes sense to me 0_0

  • How'd you get the bottom track to be an instrumental without splitting the track?

  • Thanks, this was helpful!

  • its works in theory. a band i like released one of their albums with vocals and just the instrumentals and it works just not well, i get like flanging and shit like that and then once i do get a part perfectly lined up the rest of the song drifts out of time with the original with vocals song so im thinking the instrumental files may have been altered (like time stretched or something of that nature) so you couldn't get just vocals for maybe sampling reasons or something, good tutorial though.

  • @08theWilderness P.S. i feel free not to read what i just said its really long and confusing now that i look at it. if it where someone elses i wouldn't read it.

  • This is absolutely amazing

  • This didnt work for me, after inverting it just sounded the same with both the vocals and instruments :/

  • @misteriousmaniac you didnt have good enough instrumental or your tracks volume wasnt same, try to change the voulume of another track and look what happens

  • @Dzhambik6 let me simplify it for you. you need to tell the computer what to take out, because all the sound is mashed up together in a song. when you provide the instrumental and inverse the waves, you're telling the computer to take out everything in the original track that sounds like the instrumental, leaving the vocals. its quite genius actually, you're just dumb, sorry

  • wtf, Did everything this guy did and it didn't work

  • Wow. All this time taken to make this easy to understand, and many just refuse to get it. YES. You need both versions of the song. Go to the Audacity site, download the version you need (Win, Mac, w/e) and also download the Lame mp3 plugin, soes you can export mp3 files. Shhh. SHHHHHHHH. It'll be alright.......

  • so...theres no "RemoveVocals" button?

  • @cmollfulleda arrrghhhh Y U NO have RemoveVocals Button!!!

  • @cmollfulleda yes there is. scroll on the very bottom of the effects tab. :)

  • @cmollfulleda there is now

  • @cmollfulleda Yes, there actually is a "Remove Vocal" button it works slightly better then this method for me. its under effect. You have to scroll down and click "Vocal Remover"

  • @cmollfulleda there is

  • @cmollfulleda You need to download the newest version of Audacity it has it

  • Can anyone tell me why i chose that song too?

  • how do you get the vocals only i just want the vocals not the instrumental. after i hit invert no idea.

  • Can't you pick a better song for the tutorial?

  • So this was a tutorial that explained absolutely nothing.......great.....

  • I still dont understand!!! I got an mp3 with nice vocals, and i want those vocals without the music! Do i really need a instrumental version of that mp3? i dont have it.. please help! serieous, ?why do you need the instrumental of that track?

  • yeah so you know how you said you could remove some of the extra background noise? yeah.... could you put up a video for that? thanks :}

  • THNK YOU SO MUCH DUDE YOU JUST CHANGED MY WHOLE GAME PLAN UP!

  • how do you get vocals only?

that's what I need for my remix

  • how do you take the intrumental part of a song out so its just the vocals?

  • whats that song called

  • people check out my video it shows you how to make an acapella without the OFFICIAL instrumental

  • @Dzhambik6 That's exactly what I'm not understanding, it be nice if the owner of this video can have some decency on answering our question.

  • Ok I'm having a HARD time people answering my question, what is the reason that you need an Instrumental version and an Original version just to make an Acapella?? If you just need to extract the vocals out of the song? What if you don't find an Instrumental version, then what ?

  • @JAYCZero

i think i can help you. take a look at my acapella tutorial. i dont use official instrumentals to make acapellas. go check it out.

  • @victornevarez602 I checked it and it say's that you are using the Instrumental of the "Drake" Song

  • @JAYCZero

i dont know what drake instrumental your talking about. but i uploaded a video called tutorial (how to make an acapell) without usint the official instrumental.

i think you saw the wrong video.

  • @victornevarez602 I'm talking about the "Instrumental" feat Drake on the video by Timbaland "Say Something" and just curious how do you mean that it's not the official instrumental? Did you make it an instrumental from this software?

  • @Dzhambik6 ikr

  • I tried but when I click to Invert and then play it it all sounds like nothing happened :(

  • @TheJan2988 yeah same thing happened to me

  • @bigducey8 are we doing something too wrong?

  • @TheJan2988 i honestly have no clue what did wrong

  • @bigducey8 It says we have to line them up perfectly, and I thought I did because when I play them together it sounds like one, so I guess doesn't always work.

  • @Dzhambik6 The signals from the inverted instrumental track cancel the instrumentation from the full vocal version leaving only the signal from the vocal. The vocal has no inverse signal to cancel it out.

  • Just get Goldwave and use simple voice cancellation, then save the music and use both music files on audacity

  • i foollowed the instructions but i still got the same song the invert didnt do any thing

oh and btw if it helps im trying to get the lyirics out pf aloee black - i need a dollar

    could you help please :)
