god thats alot of work :( is there like an easier way? i have like more than 300 tracks that i need to edit with in 3 days because im gonna be homeless after that :(
Interesting technique, but most of the time the waveforms of the two tracks just don't match that well and you can't extract clean vocals. IMO you're better off getting Adobe Audition and using the center channel extractor effect.
Haha how embarrassing, I didn't know that you could slide one track next to the other. (3:13) I would always delete ultra tiny silent portions of one of the tracks and hope it would line up well with the other (Which was a HUGE pain!). XD
Thanks for showing me this, it was a huge help in making my projects sound better, and making my life easier! (Well, the next one, I mean. I'm in the middle of doing one now, so I can't start using the slide tool until I do the next song.)
@DannyShaubolo it's not ment to cancel out everything, as long as you do what the video tells you to do including the inverting of your drums it should pretty much be accapella, mind you there will always be a bit of beats lefts, never 100% listen to the song he did and you ll hear it too...Ive been producing for almost 20+ years and up untill now there is not one software I know of that cancel 100% except for when you have a frequency killer...and even then it s still never 100%
@007mano1 it doesn't cancel out anything, that's the problem, I've tried it 5 times, it doesn't cancel out the music at all, do i have to make a video to prove it or something!?
@DannyShaubolo copy the dll, when you installed audacity, you should go to the folder where it was installed, click to open it and the plugins folder should be there...click to open the plug-in folder and copy and paste it there, that should do it...?!
i just had law of attraction i was listening to lupe fiasco before i searched on how to use audacity and chose a random vid wher your useing an instrumental he used lol nice vid
so, i've been trying to create a non-vocal version of the audio for the video John Stalvern: Be Kill By Demons for hours. this approach is the only one i've found when you are using audacity. is there another way to complete this task? because i would really like that audio.
I did a vocal remover, and it works beautifully, but after inverting, nothing happened...it just made the instruments louder. Maybe I'm just being a dolt, but are there other routes? Or remedies?
@OrpheusZero Because you can then use the vocals to make mixes of songs you like! like i'm going to do with this > soundcloud(dot)com/jamesbutlin/linkin-parx-1 :)
@barbelotta Is your mp3 loading in mono? You should be loading in the instrumental once and the full song once. The reason it's showing 2 tracks for him is because both of his mp3's are in stereo.
Hey! I tried to do this with a LMFAO sexy and i know it song, but it just doesnt work.. i think i've got the exact version of instrumental.. But maybe one song is a bit faster or st? ..so i was wondering if i could first remove the vocals from this song so it would become an instrumental and then use this one as my second track while trying to get vocals from the original..?
Won't really work for me... i dont know why, i followed it exactly. Do you recommend any other program(Doesn't necessarily have to be a free program)?
Thanks helped me out a lot. I was trying to make a dubstep track for a friend of a country song that hasn't already been remixed. and I needed the vocals but not the music. Word up.
tutorial doesn't suck, this IS the way the first step of DIY acapellas are done and he gets bonus points for using open source software. he does explain the physics of what's happening for way too long but apparently most people skipped through that part anyways
Doesn't work, or at least for me it doesn't. I spent a good hour or so messing around downloading, aligning peaks and troughs to see if they would almost be a perfect fit, switching songs to find something I can align easily. I finally was able to align NIN Closer perfectly with the kick drum helping out and all....
worked like a dream> thanks for the help. i was originally trying to extract with the same method but it would always be off by that little bit because i was lining up before i inverted. didnt even think to try that .
learn your physics kid. its called superimposing waves, this is how noise cancel headphones work...it replicated opposing waves to cancel non wanted sound waves
@Dzhambik6 You subtract the instrumental from the full song. In other words: Full Song = Instrumental + Acapella. Therefore, Full Song - Instrumental = Acapella.
@Dzhambik6 Since you obviously didn't get it when he explained it, when you inverse the instrumental it will cancel out the instrument sounds in the regular song, leaving the acapella. The sound waves (that you can see depicted as the blue lines) are flipped. Think of the peaks as a positive and the troughs as a negative, when you flip only one of the tracks and play them together they combine to equal zero so there is no sound.
@Dzhambik6 Could you be more of a self-righteous patronizing asshole? People are just trying to learn how to make music, and just because you're so fucking fortunate to be more ahead of the game than some of us doesn't mean you can treat everybody like an idiot. Grow a conscious, dickweed.
@ekawapeelsa You know what? I actually bothered to try explaining it in the simplest way I could, so yeah, I COULD be a more self-righteous patronizing asshole as you so eloquently put it. As it was also pointed out, the need for the instrumental track was indeed already explained in the video, and if you don't know what a trough or a peak is you obviously didn't pay attention to grade school science class.
hey can anyone help me out!? totally new to audacity and pretty poor with computers in general. i'm gonna sound like an idiot. so i have the original, i have the instrumental. how do i get them both up on the screen?! ha please enlighten
How can I do this with a song that I used to remove the vocals according to your other tutorial. They are both separate and putting them together undo's the effect.
@Dzhambik6 Think of it as a math problem. The regular track has vocals (+), and background noise (-). The instrumental only has (-). The two negatives cancel out, leaving only the (+), or the vocals. I don't know how good you are at math, so I probably just did more damage than help, but that's the only way it makes sense to me 0_0
its works in theory. a band i like released one of their albums with vocals and just the instrumentals and it works just not well, i get like flanging and shit like that and then once i do get a part perfectly lined up the rest of the song drifts out of time with the original with vocals song so im thinking the instrumental files may have been altered (like time stretched or something of that nature) so you couldn't get just vocals for maybe sampling reasons or something, good tutorial though.
@08theWilderness P.S. i feel free not to read what i just said its really long and confusing now that i look at it. if it where someone elses i wouldn't read it.
@misteriousmaniac you didnt have good enough instrumental or your tracks volume wasnt same, try to change the voulume of another track and look what happens
@Dzhambik6 let me simplify it for you. you need to tell the computer what to take out, because all the sound is mashed up together in a song. when you provide the instrumental and inverse the waves, you're telling the computer to take out everything in the original track that sounds like the instrumental, leaving the vocals. its quite genius actually, you're just dumb, sorry
Wow. All this time taken to make this easy to understand, and many just refuse to get it. YES. You need both versions of the song. Go to the Audacity site, download the version you need (Win, Mac, w/e) and also download the Lame mp3 plugin, soes you can export mp3 files. Shhh. SHHHHHHHH. It'll be alright.......
@cmollfulleda Yes, there actually is a "Remove Vocal" button it works slightly better then this method for me. its under effect. You have to scroll down and click "Vocal Remover"
I still dont understand!!! I got an mp3 with nice vocals, and i want those vocals without the music! Do i really need a instrumental version of that mp3? i dont have it.. please help! serieous, ?why do you need the instrumental of that track?
Ok I'm having a HARD time people answering my question, what is the reason that you need an Instrumental version and an Original version just to make an Acapella?? If you just need to extract the vocals out of the song? What if you don't find an Instrumental version, then what ?
i dont know what drake instrumental your talking about. but i uploaded a video called tutorial (how to make an acapell) without usint the official instrumental.
@victornevarez602 I'm talking about the "Instrumental" feat Drake on the video by Timbaland "Say Something" and just curious how do you mean that it's not the official instrumental? Did you make it an instrumental from this software?
@bigducey8 It says we have to line them up perfectly, and I thought I did because when I play them together it sounds like one, so I guess doesn't always work.
@Dzhambik6 The signals from the inverted instrumental track cancel the instrumentation from the full vocal version leaving only the signal from the vocal. The vocal has no inverse signal to cancel it out.
when i invert the instrumental the entire wave form disappears...

@Dzhambik6 That's exactly what I'm not understanding, it be nice if the owner of this video can have some decency on answering our question.

Ok I'm having a HARD time people answering my question, what is the reason that you need an Instrumental version and an Original version just to make an Acapella?? If you just need to extract the vocals out of the song? What if you don't find an Instrumental version, then what ?

@JAYCZero
i think i can help you. take a look at my acapella tutorial. i dont use official instrumentals to make acapellas. go check it out.

@JAYCZero

@victornevarez602 I'm talking about the "Instrumental" feat Drake on the video by Timbaland "Say Something" and just curious how do you mean that it's not the official instrumental? Did you make it an instrumental from this software?

@bigducey8 are we doing something too wrong?
TheJan2988 8 months ago
@TheJan2988 i honestly have no clue what did wrong
bigducey8 8 months ago
@bigducey8 It says we have to line them up perfectly, and I thought I did because when I play them together it sounds like one, so I guess doesn't always work.

@Dzhambik6 The signals from the inverted instrumental track cancel the instrumentation from the full vocal version leaving only the signal from the vocal. The vocal has no inverse signal to cancel it out.

Just get Goldwave and use simple voice cancellation, then save the music and use both music files on audacity
