Would my mac run it just as good at 25 fps without SSD but just the standard one? And is it normal for the mac to get up to 90 degrees and is it damaging in the long run?
@JonasLaerke normal to get up to 90. Get a laptop cooler. In the long run, not really unless you're gaming 24/7 at 90degrees. It's 100degrees + when you worry. And yes your mac will run it fine at 25fps w/o SSD.
And what does vsync do? I've never turned it on. Sorry for all the noob questions, just trying to get as much info before I drop 1500 bucks hehe, thanks in advance.
@nutbagticles as in recording? No but there are other options such as the in-game video recording option WoW has. Wow also has a built in FPS reader. If you want to record outside of wow there are screen capture options too.
@aznguyen316 that is you the guy in red sitting behind the mac playing the game huh. At first, i thought you were some kind of goddess with a big shape like you are actually IN THE GAME LOL, so i was freaked out by that haha. I was like WOW THE BIG GODDESS IN WOW LOL.
@aznguyen316 do u study programming in ur school? and one mroe question, what are the most common used programs that do not run on Macbooks just like those fraps u mentioned, is there anymore? tnx
I plan to get a macbook for college but I love to game. i have read that the macbook has cooling issues and am concerned about if it will shorten the lifespan of the computer. I am not an extreme gamer but certain days i will play for several hours. have you had issues with overheating? how seriously does it affect the life of the laptop?
@13579ROFLCOPTER I have not had issues with overheating. Just be smart, don't cover the back vents, limit your FPS in wow using the in game maximum fps so your computer stays cooler. Use a notebook cooler as well. But it will only affect the laptop if you are not being smart about overclocking or playing on a pillow and blocking the rear vents. Wow is supported by apple so if some reason something happens it would be covered as long as you have applecare. Laptops just get hot in general.
I am a wow player but my pc got effed up and i didnt or dont know alot about computers... i really want a apple macbook since i have a lot of apple products so i wanted to ask: to game, should i get a alienware laptop or this macbook? ( not looking at the fact that i want one lol)
@TeamHuntingRyko Do you plan to MOSTLY game? If so get the Alienware. If you plan on transporting to school etc, then it could be a tossup. The M14x is still a solid gaming and portable laptop. The Macbook is great all around and it would be my preference to get a MacBook but I didn't game a whole lot when in school/classes either.
Hey, Anyone feel like doing Recruit a friend with me on WoW? It gives Triple XP, Friend to friend summon and alot more fun stuff. We Can get level 85s like crazy. All you gotta do is create a WoW account through an Email I send you. So yeah if you're new or just wanna get back into WoW, Hit me up on my Youtube channel. Lets do it!
Pretty sweet. I've got one question though. Does the solid state drive makes the notebook perform faster? What's the approximate difference between ssd and hdd? 20-30 %? of speed increase?
Also, Im planning to buy a MBP 13 inch myself (Im about to go to college) soon, do you think it is worth it?
@Vccine Yes the MBP 13 is terrific. SSD is awesome, it increases LOAD times for applications, startup OS, and games, but it won't increase frame rate in WoW, but it will help load up the levels and when you are flying on a mount etc load up things from the drive a lot faster without stutter. Night and day difference.
@MrDarthReaper Yes you need Wow "vanilla" then Burning Crusade, and then wrath of lich king lol and then buy Cataclysm. But you have to level up to do cataclysm stuff although the world has already been changed even for low levels.
@MrDarthReaper You can download all the WoW games that are out now for a low prize at battle.net (Search it on google). You'll need a montly payment and an account to play the game. :)
@B3JonnyB Sorry but the purpose of this video was to show how well it runs for those wanting to purchase a MBP to play WoW. You can find plenty of actual gameplay videos if you would like though on youtube here, or anywhere else. Thanks for stopping by though!
@BatistaR0X rumors say a minor spec bump. However the 13" would probably only see the i7 machine get the minor bump as the i5's were not upgraded that the MBP 13" would use. The 15" and 17" may see the i7 quad core chips get upgraded a tad as well. Not sure what else would be updated however.
@aznguyen316 just a couple questions about wow. umm is it fun? i see theres lot of attacks or whatever on the bottom of your screen, do you get used to it? and how much is it per month?
@assassinscreed1171 yeah it's fun, it's more about building up your character and teamwork in dungeons what I like about it. It's $15/month unfortuantely which I'm not a big fan of. Yeah there's a lot of skills to learn and things to do, questing, pvp'ing, dungeons, crafting.. yup yup!
@crystopher121 depends a LOT on when you log in. Peak server hours you will not be getting 40FPS in orgrimmar, bet on that. WoW FPS varies a lot, so it's kind of useless to compare FPS. Just know it runs well.
It actually does a pretty amazing job for an integrated GPU. Also Killing Floor, Left 4 Dead 2 and Starcraft 2 runs pretty damn well (on some lower settings ofc). I have been arguing with my self, and I guess I will only be taking my MBP 13" 2011 with me when im going to LAN parties. The stationary will stay at home :)
Would there be any large differences between this and the i5-version of the 13" -model? Both of them are using the Intel HD 3000 so there shouldn't be THAT much of a difference but I would like to know what you think though
@Tanax13 just upgrade the ram on the i5 and your set! The graphics card gets 384mb vram with 4gb of RAM and 512mb of vram with 8gb of RAM..if that makes any sense to you =P but just upgrade the ram and you won't regret the i5
@KeKeKeilan Wait what? I was under the impression the 13" doesn't have a graphics card? It uses the HD3000 which is included in the intel APU of the i5 processor? Only the 15" models(and above) have graphics cards. Also, how could the vram go up if the ram is upgraded? Just curious hehe :)
@Tanax13 well the HD 3000 technically IS a graphics card, its just not a separate discrete one, and vram is virtual ram which helps non-discrete graphics cards and gets increased when you upgrade your actual ram =P of course discrete graphics cards like the 15" mbp's amd cards are better though because they have dedicated memory and don't need vram. Not really sure WHY vram goes up when you upgrade your ram, but it just does lol, you can quote me on that!

Will downloading this game reduce my mac's capability in any way? I have 13" 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5. 4GD 1333MHz DDR3. I don't want to fuck anything up:) I know it will get hot, but will I have any other problems while and after the game is on my machine? I want it to last for some years. I'm a newb when it comes to this, but thanks for any reply! :)
@Joso0493 not at all. There is no worries regarding if this will hurt your Mac in the future. There are a lot of ppl that use their Macbook to play WoW, trust me on that. Just make sure you don't cover up the back ventilation area when playing to allow your macbook to cool off. This is the case for ANY intensive applications run on any notebook. Just play on a desk and you'll be good, not directly on carpet or something =)
Go for Windows if you wanna play a decent game. This is a shame with i7 that could not handle such a graphic like this. I got a HP with a same specs and it could handle pretty much everything
@wonglikkk Yes, don't play on your lap. Don't block the vents on the back. and CAP YOUR FPS. This last one is probably the biggest one. You can cap your fps by going into the video settings I think advanced or some other tab. It shows background fps which is when you have wow open but are browsing the web or something and the other one during gameplay. Drag the slider bar to less than half way and measure your FPS by hovering over the computer icon on menu bar. cap it around 30FPS.

Has there been any updates for the 3000 since this video that increased the performance at all? And would overclocking to 3.0 on the i7 be fine if the fans were on the whole time? Thanks.
@aznguyen316 sorry! I didn't really look. :P but thank you very much for the quick and helpful response! (: I'm getting my macbook pro soon, so I can't wait!
@Acro8700 I'm asking around the same thing! Hahahaha. I'm so hesitant. Ugh I just want a MacBook already but I'm afraid that the EXACT SAME MODEL that you mentioned (which is the one I';m going to buy) won't run WoW decently.
Does the game use up your laptop battery fast or overheat your comp? I'm hesitant about installing WoW on my laptop so I want to make sure it won't mess up my laptop before college starts
@K3v1NDizzle I don't play on battery, but if I were to it'd probably take an hour or two before it drained. Play with it plugged in. Also no it won't overheat as long as you're on a flat surface when you play. the fans will come on but your'e fan. WoW won't damage your laptop, they sell it in the apple stores and the geniuses don't care if you play it and if something were to overheat it would be apple's job to replace it as long as you didn't do anything bad.
@K3v1NDizzle You should always play plugged in, you will noticed performance issues otherwise. Plus i've seen that when you plug in the power supply the GFX card activates at full power too! bring on the high FPS! :)
Thanks a lot I didn't have enough to buy the 15'' model with AMD Graphics but you put my mind at ease Seems most of my games will be ok with the Intel HD 3000 :)
yes it will run smooth! i'm uploading atm a movie with a i5 playing world of warcraft also a ssd, but when i have a optibay i will show you how it run on a hard drive. i can also make a video difference between a 2010 macbook pro 13 and a 2011 macbook pro ( i have both) so if someone like that say it:)
@whitestallion1995 SSD is very good for MMO's since there is CONSTANT loading. SSD can slow over a long period of time but Windows 7 has trim so that's not really an issue any more. It was for older SSD's. I recommend an SSD over a lot of things but only after you have a decent CPU/GPU for gaming. But SSD can help a lot over HDD for WoW. Other games, not always. Just load times. SSD in WOW helps for smoothness when flying around and constantly loading new users or terrain etc.

@keegasus yeah there will be a difference, the 2.2 with 6750 a large difference and the 2.0 with 6490 an okay difference. Depends on how much money you want to drop to make up the difference to make worth it.
@TheParkourBear Should be very similar! Turbo boosts on i7 in OSX is pretty good but I don't think it helps a whole lot. The i5 processor should be plenty good! The HD 3000 is what holds it back, but wow still uses a lot of CPU power so the i5 helps a lot. Go have fun, enjoy it!!
@dayananDKZ I played wow on a 13" for two years, never really thought that. I occasionally have it hooked up to a 32" tv though and it runs fine there too. Now I have a 15" Macbook and love that. It's never too small to play wow =D
@jamesalli55 iMac 27 hands down if you want more power and graphics. If you need portability then obviously you have to get the MBP 13" But yeah iMac 27 or even the MBP 15" with 2.2 and 6750 is beastly for gaming.
@Badkarmaud probably, but nothing for sure. They said they wanted to make sure it runs on many PC's across the board so I would say yes. MMO's often you can turn down some graphical settings and just have CPU work some of the other draw distance and RNG stuff... who knows though.
@Badkarmaud it should work because they made the game to work with most computers it is normaly the graphics you have to worry about and you can always just turn down the settings.
Why dont u run it on the high graphics settings ?? anyway from your expierince as a gamer do u think its good for games such as wow or cod or assassins creed please help thanks
thank you dude! i was hoping that at least the new i7+hd3000 would perform the same as the old c2d+320m and your video seems to show that. i want to get rid of my old macbook white and new mac mini for just a macbook pro and i needed to know if it would play WoW at least at the same capacity as the mini. going to the apple store now...
Hmmm...for WoW which is a lot demanding on graphics nowadays you should have went for 2.2ghz+1GB radeon MBP...there you can switch all to max and have solid 50fps at all time with 3-4 seconds loading screens
The new MBP 2011 sucks for games, nasty nasty gfx chip :( Seeing as I mainly use my 2010 mbp for games on the go, seems I wont be upgrading this time round which is a shame considering I've had every mbp since 2008 :(
ok so ive got a quick question, can you put the quad core i-7 processor and the new graphics card that comes in the 15" mac book into the 13", i dont know much about this stuff so i fugured you guys would know more than me.
@jacobmason4200 Nope you cant. It will cause a meltdown imho, you cant fit all those things with bigger vents in 13inch...that was the general idea of how to save space in 13inch model - by removing graphics and implementing less space demanding integrated only so why would someone want to do exactly the opposite?
Hey, thanks for posting this. Just bought the new MBP 13" i5 , loaded up WOW and started to freak out a bit when I saw I couldn't bring the settings up past fair! Almost returned the whole computer. My old 2.0Ghz Macbook 2G RAM was able to use higher settings. I'll try it again by setting everything manually. I'm still pretty new to WOW, and only play a few hours a week, so I don't need a top computer. Thanks! I appreciate this.
@GreenIguanaQi no problem. yeah just set the settings each manually. The ones that affect CPU you can turn up a bit high like view distance and detail settings. those are really only the important ones.. plus the projected textures is a big deal to see casting elements on the ground. G
@GreenIguanaQi NP! Just turn up the settings you want manually. LIke I have ultra on view distance and high on details. everything else can be lower or whatever, doesn't matter a whole lot. Also be sure to turn ON projected textures so you can see casting elements on the ground. Good luck! Enjoy the machine, it's awesome.
@aznguyen316 hello, you seem to know alot about computers, i have been asking alot of people but no one answers. i am looking at buying a MacBook Pro 13" 2010 model,
Specs:
4GIG RAM
250GIG HDD
Nvidea 320m Graphics (integrated, not dedicated)
Core2Duo Proccessor
Mac OS X Snow Leopard
i think this will be able to play cataclysm (WoW) but the non dedicated graphics concerns me..would it run? with nice FPS at all times.
Would my mac run it just as good at 25 fps without SSD but just the standard one? And is it normal for the mac to get up to 90 degrees and is it damaging in the long run?

You can cap your fps by going into the video settings I think advanced or some other tab. It shows background fps which is when you have wow open but are browsing the web or something and the other one during gameplay. Drag the slider bar to less than half way and measure your FPS by hovering over the computer icon on menu bar. cap it around 30FPS.

@wonglikkk never play on your lap.. you will grill your balls, seriously.

Has there been any updates for the 3000 since this video that increased the performance at all? And would overclocking to 3.0 on the i7 be fine if the fans were on the whole time? Thanks.

Acro8700 9 months ago
@Acro8700 I'm asking around the same thing! Hahahaha. I'm so hesitant. Ugh I just want a MacBook already but I'm afraid that the EXACT SAME MODEL that you mentioned (which is the one I';m going to buy) won't run WoW decently.
LeegeeLegit 7 months ago
Does the game use up your laptop battery fast or overheat your comp? I'm hesitant about installing WoW on my laptop so I want to make sure it won't mess up my laptop before college starts
K3v1NDizzle 9 months ago
@K3v1NDizzle I don't play on battery, but if I were to it'd probably take an hour or two before it drained. Play with it plugged in. Also no it won't overheat as long as you're on a flat surface when you play. the fans will come on but your'e fan. WoW won't damage your laptop, they sell it in the apple stores and the geniuses don't care if you play it and if something were to overheat it would be apple's job to replace it as long as you didn't do anything bad.
aznguyen316 9 months ago
@K3v1NDizzle You should always play plugged in, you will noticed performance issues otherwise. Plus i've seen that when you plug in the power supply the GFX card activates at full power too! bring on the high FPS! :)

@whitestallion1995
yes it will run smooth! i'm uploading atm a movie with a i5 playing world of warcraft also a ssd, but when i have a optibay i will show you how it run on a hard drive. i can also make a video difference between a 2010 macbook pro 13 and a 2011 macbook pro ( i have both) so if someone like that say it:)
toondebruijn 9 months ago
@toondebruijn so it doesnt matter if u get a hard drive or a ssd? they will be the same speed? btw is it true ssd slows down over time?
whitestallion1995 9 months ago
@whitestallion1995 SSD is very good for MMO's since there is CONSTANT loading. SSD can slow over a long period of time but Windows 7 has trim so that's not really an issue any more. It was for older SSD's. I recommend an SSD over a lot of things but only after you have a decent CPU/GPU for gaming. But SSD can help a lot over HDD for WoW. Other games, not always. Just load times. SSD in WOW helps for smoothness when flying around and constantly loading new users or terrain etc.
aznguyen316 9 months ago
@aznguyen316 whats trimming? and what if u dont have windows 7 on mac? is a hard drive more beneficial then??

@keegasus yeah there will be a difference, the 2.2 with 6750 a large difference and the 2.0 with 6490 an okay difference. Depends on how much money you want to drop to make up the difference to make worth it.

Intel Core i5

Intel HD Graphics 3000
TheParkourBear 10 months ago
@TheParkourBear Should be very similar! Turbo boosts on i7 in OSX is pretty good but I don't think it helps a whole lot. The i5 processor should be plenty good! The HD 3000 is what holds it back, but wow still uses a lot of CPU power so the i5 helps a lot. Go have fun, enjoy it!!

could this machine run 'Star wars the old republic'? another MMO, slightly higher graphics and processor hungry than wow?
Badkarmaud 11 months ago
@Badkarmaud probably, but nothing for sure. They said they wanted to make sure it runs on many PC's across the board so I would say yes. MMO's often you can turn down some graphical settings and just have CPU work some of the other draw distance and RNG stuff... who knows though.
aznguyen316 11 months ago
would this run star wars the old republic? upcoming MMO..
Badkarmaud 11 months ago
@Badkarmaud that question was already asked and answered look in unloader comments ^^^
Reb10101 11 months ago
@Reb10101 i cant find it...pls just answer ?
Badkarmaud 11 months ago
@Badkarmaud it should work because they made the game to work with most computers it is normaly the graphics you have to worry about and you can always just turn down the settings.

Hmmm...for WoW which is a lot demanding on graphics nowadays you should have went for 2.2ghz+1GB radeon MBP...there you can switch all to max and have solid 50fps at all time with 3-4 seconds loading screens
MrDoncarnage 1 year ago
The new MBP 2011 sucks for games, nasty nasty gfx chip :( Seeing as I mainly use my 2010 mbp for games on the go, seems I wont be upgrading this time round which is a shame considering I've had every mbp since 2008 :(
UnrealGlider 1 year ago
@UnrealGlider
Nasty gfx? What? It's pretty awesome.
Usul573 1 year ago
@UnrealGlider
I dont know how new MBP can suck for games, I can run any Mac made game or any Win game via boot camp on max settings never going below 50 frames...
and ofc 13inch model is not made for gaming...thats why it doesnt have graphic card, only integrated memory in CPU
MrDoncarnage 1 year ago
ok so ive got a quick question, can you put the quad core i-7 processor and the new graphics card that comes in the 15" mac book into the 13", i dont know much about this stuff so i fugured you guys would know more than me.
thanks for the help guys
jacobmason4200 1 year ago
@jacobmason4200 nope you cannot. Basically only thing you can replace is the hard drive and memory/ram. But CPU and GPU are stuck.
aznguyen316 1 year ago
@jacobmason4200 Nope you cant. It will cause a meltdown imho, you cant fit all those things with bigger vents in 13inch...that was the general idea of how to save space in 13inch model - by removing graphics and implementing less space demanding integrated only so why would someone want to do exactly the opposite?
MrDoncarnage 1 year ago
Hey, thanks for posting this. Just bought the new MBP 13" i5 , loaded up WOW and started to freak out a bit when I saw I couldn't bring the settings up past fair! Almost returned the whole computer. My old 2.0Ghz Macbook 2G RAM was able to use higher settings. I'll try it again by setting everything manually. I'm still pretty new to WOW, and only play a few hours a week, so I don't need a top computer. Thanks! I appreciate this.
GreenIguanaQi 1 year ago
@GreenIguanaQi no problem. yeah just set the settings each manually. The ones that affect CPU you can turn up a bit high like view distance and detail settings. those are really only the important ones.. plus the projected textures is a big deal to see casting elements on the ground. G
aznguyen316 1 year ago
