I have a 2 monitor + laptop setup and most people who see it assume I'm a super nerd or something. Any programmer who sees it always recognizes how great it is not to need to flip through references and terminals and editors and crap right away. 6 is probably the max for productivity though once you get more than that I find it hard to remember where I put things.
Man, with the new OS's, you can do some serious multi-tasking. But I don't care who you are, you don't need that much space. (even if you are web programming ; ) )
I would realy like to see a write up on what all was done to accomplish this. Xinerama hasn't allowed me to use more than 2 conveniently, and i've had no luck getting Compiz working with it :(

Are you using two ATI/AMD 5000 series graphics card? I'm about to get an AMD Radeon HD 5750 to run 3 monitors in Ubuntu, do you think the drivers will work fine with Ubuntu?
why not just go with a large hdtv at this point? i wouldn't like all the breaks in the screen. and with always on top functionality you can have your windows spread out anyway you want btw what is the total distance horzontal?

that is way cool to the MAX i have a acer 23" 6 of them would be great for gaming, can you make a video to show us the back so i could see how you put it all together
and tell us some about you system, like video card and hookups
@MorbidAngelification that's compiz with the added plugins. it doesnt let you choose specific windows, just a specific side of the cube (it's actually a cube, or other prism, theres a plugin called deform that makes it round)
@Crypt1cmyst1c When I wrote that comment I knew nothing about Linux or Ubuntu and primarily used Windows. now i know a little bit more than next to nothing about Linux and finally found out about Compiz, but never heard of Deform. I still primarily use windows...... you know, bad habits die hard...
I found a program for Win called DeskSpace. Not as good, slow, and bogs down memory, but i guess it works for what i need. Oh and did i mention that it is proprietary lol
lol thats pretty awesome. When I'm working on a website I usually refer to a book when I can because flipping through windows is annoying and distracting, that looks really productive!
what i find so interesting about this you have 6 monitors but compiz is working. having "unlimited" monitors in linux isn't really hard to do but 3d support on all of them i'm unsure about. what video cards are you using (i know you must have at least 2).
have you considered using mpx? this could make your work sooo much easier. it allows you to have multiple keyboards and mice work on different applications at the same time. its now built into xorg. i can help you out with it if you want
how can you get it to keep your multi-screen configuration even if you shut down? I keep getting parse error then back on only one screen after shutting down and comming back. I guess Windows still has better multi-screen support imo.
I do a lot of web programming, so it helps to have the ftp client on one window, cpanel on a second, my text editor on the third, IE, firefox, Safari on the others, also need firefox to look up tutorials or guide while programming.
@samanthalynn6790 I have 3 monitors, everyone says that to me. Its true for the first few days, after that.... its impractical for me to NOT use 3 or more monitors. I usually only use 2 of my 3, however in gaming i MUST have 3 monitors. 2 is unplayable, and 1 is unrealistic. :) Warning: Eyefinity may be addictive!
