  • I have a 2 monitor + laptop setup and most people who see it assume I'm a super nerd or something. Any programmer who sees it always recognizes how great it is not to need to flip through references and terminals and editors and crap right away. 6 is probably the max for productivity though once you get more than that I find it hard to remember where I put things.

  • I would really like more information on how you got this working.

  • Man, with the new OS's, you can do some serious multi-tasking. But I don't care who you are, you don't need that much space. (even if you are web programming ; ) )

  • ...and the top comment has 69 thumbs up...I'm not going to press that thumbs up button just for that reason

  • Nossa!!! Muito legal isso Ubuntu 8.04

  • could I get like, one of those x-box sensors. so I could manipulate the windows by hand motion?

  • Windows>Ubuntu

  • i havr 2 screens and want two different worspaces 1 on each screen is this posible and how can i do this with compiz fuzion?

  • I would realy like to see a write up on what all was done to accomplish this. Xinerama hasn't allowed me to use more than 2 conveniently, and i've had no luck getting Compiz working with it :(

  • I see Adobe Flash is dragging as always. Man, they really don't know how to write software.

  • nice laptop

  • hi friend,

    Nice job, congratulations!

Are you using two ATI/AMD 5000 series graphics card? I'm about to get an AMD Radeon HD 5750 to run 3 monitors in Ubuntu, do you think the drivers will work fine with Ubuntu?

    thanks!

  • Man that is so cool... You are my hero :)

  • Windows > Ubuntu/Mac

  • plug in your laptop - 7 monitor

  • So when u turn on all that shit, thats why the neighborhood browns out,

    good job!!

  • why not just go with a large hdtv at this point? i wouldn't like all the breaks in the screen. and with always on top functionality you can have your windows spread out anyway you want btw what is the total distance horzontal?

  • could you upload your xorg.conf somewhere? i have been working on a 4-screen setup for about one week now and i cant get it to work :(

  • A tiling window manager on top of that setup would be really nice.

  • that is way cool to the MAX i have a acer 23" 6 of them would be great for gaming, can you make a video to show us the back so i could see how you put it all together

and tell us some about you system, like video card and hookups

  • Somewhere, Steve Ballmer is crying right now...

  • wooohh.. awesome setup man... what kind of monitor are those?

  • what app or program was it that let you zoom out and circle a cylinder of open pages and select the ones you wanted??????i want and NEED IT.

  • @MorbidAngelification that's compiz with the added plugins. it doesnt let you choose specific windows, just a specific side of the cube (it's actually a cube, or other prism, theres a plugin called deform that makes it round)

  • @Crypt1cmyst1c When I wrote that comment I knew nothing about Linux or Ubuntu and primarily used Windows. now i know a little bit more than next to nothing about Linux and finally found out about Compiz, but never heard of Deform. I still primarily use windows...... you know, bad habits die hard...

I found a program for Win called DeskSpace. Not as good, slow, and bogs down memory, but i guess it works for what i need. Oh and did i mention that it is proprietary lol

Thanks for the reply & Info

  • How do you fixate the top monitors on top row of monitors above the bottom row of monitors?

  • THAT IS BADASS

  • I have 3 monitors. all with 2 Nvidia card with 2 outputs each. It's a nightmare to set up. is there a change of telling me how you got it working?

  • i wish they would make monitors with removable bezels so you could butt them up against one another to make one solid screen

  • lol thats pretty awesome. When I'm working on a website I usually refer to a book when I can because flipping through windows is annoying and distracting, that looks really productive!

  • How do you mount the three monitors on the top of the bottom three?

  • what i find so interesting about this you have 6 monitors but compiz is working. having "unlimited" monitors in linux isn't really hard to do but 3d support on all of them i'm unsure about. what video cards are you using (i know you must have at least 2).

have you considered using mpx? this could make your work sooo much easier. it allows you to have multiple keyboards and mice work on different applications at the same time. its now built into xorg. i can help you out with it if you want

  • How do u do this With a pc that only has 1 VGA port

  • @rboiiz999 Simple: You can't.

  • You can always buy two HD5xxx cards, and do this...

  • I LOVED compiz when i was using ubuntu. I love linux, but i also love video games...

  • @mattisthegodofwar Then dualboot?

  • @mattisthegodofwar /user/ullematz

  • whats with that windows laptop?

  • i soooooo want to do something like that...

i just dont have the money for graphics cards and monitors...

  • HELL YES IT IS!!!!

  • not for casual computer use no.. but in a production/development environment it would be pretty useful right?

  • @ahmadclk clearly not a computer geek =P

  • no its not that, It;s just that im not stupid enough to spend $800+ just to watch something that I can watch on a normal monitor.

  • dude... i have it the same like that :D even the laptop!

  • so COOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

  • haha thats awesome!

is there a way to make it where there is part of the video is behind the boarder of the screen, that way videos arent like.. stretched?

  • please show us your xorg.conf! please!

  • haha

  • it is impractical for most , yet very very useful for some.

  • how can you get it to keep your multi-screen configuration even if you shut down? I keep getting parse error then back on only one screen after shutting down and comming back. I guess Windows still has better multi-screen support imo.

  • Any 24" with thinner bezels?

  • Eizos

  • That's awesome. Where did you get all those monitors?

  • hey do i know you? stumbled yes?

  • That's pretty trippy seeing the cube on 6 screens.

  • That's ridiculous, I would never want to watch any videos in full screen, too ugly and thick.

  • Thats what she said.

  • This is cool, but I find it to be somewhat impractical.

  • I do a lot of web programming, so it helps to have the ftp client on one window, cpanel on a second, my text editor on the third, IE, firefox, Safari on the others, also need firefox to look up tutorials or guide while programming.

  • What video cards are you using?

  • @j0wsty1ls is it really that hard to switch between windows as you need them?

  • @samanthalynn6790 I have 3 monitors, everyone says that to me. Its true for the first few days, after that.... its impractical for me to NOT use 3 or more monitors. I usually only use 2 of my 3, however in gaming i MUST have 3 monitors. 2 is unplayable, and 1 is unrealistic. :) Warning: Eyefinity may be addictive!

  • @samanthalynn6790 impractical!? haha... you probably don't do any real work on a computer. It's VERY practical for developers.

  • @samanthalynn6790 HA! You, sir, have never done and serious video editing, programming or something similar. I have 3 screens but only due to funds.

  • Wow. That most be sooooo annyoing. At least using it on regularly basis.

  • I have to know ... What mobo? CPU? RAM size and speed? video cards? Please?

  • wowzers I just made a mess in my trousers

  • I need a new keyboard because I drooled all over it watching this vid. ;)

  • Imagine how much porn you could watch...

  • @lambizzee

    O_O! *IDEA*

  • Ubuntu>windows.

  • @JoshyNapalm

you forgot the rest of it

    mac<windows vista<windows 9x series <windows xp and 7<ubuntu,backtrack<fedora, debian,<mandriva, sabayon<Arch, BSD,<gentoo i'm working from an Arch netbook

  • He's fooling you all.

Hes actually the guy from the matrix in the lighthouse with all those Tv's in it..

he just decided to try out the new flat screens thats all.

  • Very cool.

  • HOWD MAKE THE THINGS SPIN! THAT COOL

  • search for compiz, there is so much you can do with compiz

  • @knightfall23 Compiz cube and cube rotate plugins with the option for circular desktop switched on (I think)

  • Start by going to school, and learning proper diction, then get your hands on a machine that's running Ubuntu, and install Compiz....

  • Very nice :D You are /

  • Its fucking awesome but not so good to watching movies hahah... just kidding

  • its true, sucks for movies :p

  • my god... i've seen heaven !

  • I have 3 video cards, each video card is dual dvi and they go into my mobo PCI Express x16 slots. They also make quad head cards too

  • Does this mean you got 6 graphics cards.. How is this done?

  • Sweet Jesus! play any video games on that setup!! OMG.
