when Sergio was a kid he broke his wrist and when it healed he could bend it farther than normal and that's why he can get so much lag and smashes the ball. I read about it in golf magazine like 10 years ago.
Im impressed but it doesn't really matter in the long clubs no advantage i can carry a 5 wood 240 4 iron loft is 24 deg he probbaly delofted that with 21 or 20 and went after it at 110% You can clearly see he it down on the ball but the ball still went past the cup. Put me in the same spot with a 5 wood and I could swuin at 100 mph and get the same results
@BOATRIGHTGOLF The same argument can be made about a 7-iron and a 9-iron. Its all about the club selection in his bag, why would he waste a space for a 5-wood that is nowhere near as manoeuvrable as a long iron when he can hit his 4-iron longer, shorter, higher, lower, cut fade. I'm sure if you gave him a 5-wood as well he would the exact same with about 80% power.
No advantage? Do you know ANYTHING about golf? Faster you swing= more speed and SPIN. Iron= spins more than driver. You can stop a 4 iron from 250 a lot easier then a 5 wood.
@BOATRIGHTGOLF I kinda agree with you... but... talking about a pro elite golfer like Sergio... .. maybe long irons are.. more...have more feel you know... it's like putting with a one iron instead of a putter. One iron may work but.. What would you go for... idk. By the way... I would putt with a 3 iron when I started to play cuz didn't have a normal putter.

Put me in the same spot with a 5 wood and I could swuin at 100 mph hit it 235 and roll it to the pin. But same swing 8 iron and you have a height and spin advantage.

i know he has a ton of lag on his swing and a pretty high swing speed but come on. who does he think he is bubba? its like when gary woodland hits a 237 yard 7 iron early this year
250 is a good 4 iron for me. Off the tee at its best maybe 270, but I have super high ball flight so it doesnt roll much. No 3 iron, just a 3 hybrid thats about 275 off fairway.
@TheBimtf That's what happens with 110 mph club head speed. You don't have to be a pro to hit far, it's funny how people forget that. Difference is I'm a 2 handicap and they're +5.
Sir Faldo was a great golfer. He was taught a technique that worked wonders for him.He knows what worked for him and that's ALL he knows and therefor he analyzes every swing based on his limited knowledge of what worked for him.The problem is that HIS way is not the ONLY way.If it was every golfer would have the same swing.Ask Faldo what accumulators Sergio is using in his swing or what loading or release technique he applies. Is he a hitter or swinger or both?
@TheNYgolfer every good golf "swing" has force applied across the shaft. mr kelley might have given us some amazing insight into the golf "stroke" but some of his stuff is off base.
Sir Faldo has got to be the dumbest analyzer of a golf swing I have ever heard. He tries to compare every swing to HIS own swing.I think that anyone who analyzes a golf swing needs to have a good understanding of The Golfing Machine.Winning majors does not a golf instructor/teacher/analyzer make!!Johnny Miller is another example. I'm not sure why Lanny Wadkins was replaced by Sir Faldo but I'm positive it had nothing to do with Sir Faldos analytic eye for the golf swing.Lanny was too liberal?
@TheNYgolfer Sorry but in that whole video he did not compare sergio's swing to his own.. He states his own opinion and describes the golf swing im pretty sure thats what a commentator is meant to do ?
That was the orgasm of iron shots.

AKFAN47 1 year ago 28
@AKFAN47 Its because if you watched his swing he comes down on the ball so steeply and he has extraordinary lag in his swing

@AKFAN47 One thing to take into consideration is that phil has really strong lofts on his irons.
