The only things i don't like about this one is I hate Chapter 3-3 except for the boss of it, not sure when to flip from 2D to 3D and I would've like voice acting for the major characters of the game
People are just comparing it to the first two, and they clearly loved the battle system and got mad when it was changed here. It is a great game but disappointing for people who didn't like the change in style. I thought this game was good but would rather turn base battles for the paper mario series.

This game struggled to find its identity and rather than draw in the platformer and rpg fans, it settles itself in an awkward medium which is ultimately dissapointing. This game had alot of potential, but they made the mistake of misleading everyone by putting the "Paper" in the title. The Mario series has many great platformers like the "Super Mario Advance" series, the problem however is this game was a sequel to a PAPER Mario game not a platformer. Super Mario Bros. did a much better job.

I liked this game better than the original paper Mario, and the genre is more of a mix between platformer and RPG than just a platformer. Also, who said if the sequel of a game is not in the same genre it is a bad game. I always hate it when people say that something about a game is bad without a good reason. All those reasons in your comment were bad in my opinion. (Except the part where you said the title was misleading)
@superunsubscriber I'm just saying give the Paper Mario fans what they want because we already have alot of platformers. Overall you'd have to agree that most of the Paper Mario fans were disapointed because the story was not as good as the original and TTYD. Also the removal of the turn based battles and action commands made the game too easy. I am open minded to change in gameplay but not absolute alteration. You should watch Wiiviewers review, I think he hit the nail on the head.
@Hans1994yout Well first of all the story I think was better, but I don't want to explain why since it will take forever to do so and second is that you can beat an enemy way faster since you don't have to go into a battle scene every time you walk into a enemy. I think it is much more fun that way because there is still a bit of the RPG element because you level up and have hit points or health points or whatever you want to call it, but an enemy doesn't take forever to beat. @Hans1994yout I couldn't fit everything on the other comment so I'll continue here. Also I didn't play TTYD that much because I only played it at my friend's house. I did watch a playthrough of it and it looked really fun. My only problem with it is that there was too much backtracking in this one part.

@TheKawaiiXatu I'd have to say that this is my least favorite Paper Mario title. It's not a bad game,but I just didn't enjoy it as much. Also,some of the enemies looked like they were drawn at the last second. Don't get me wrong,simplicity is great,but it doesn't look appealing for most of the time. There are moments in the game I absolutely loved,but I can't really see myself playing it again. It's been three years since I've played it.... = / Again,not a bad game.
This game was very beautiful and the story was brilliant but i have to say the battle system was disappointing. I really enjoyed the old battles, they were so creative and fun. Fighting in this game is quite lame. I also didn't like the pixie world or the pixie friends. They weren't as great as the old characters.
Anyway i hope the next paper mario returns to its roots!

@PaperMario15 I didn't dislike the game because it was different, I disliked it because it was a bad game. The 2D/3D manipulation was great and ingenious, but it wasn't really utilized well. I felt like the rest of the game -- the huge RPG portion -- kept getting in the way of what could have been a unique and creative platformer.
This game shows that it is time for Nintendo to start implementing voice acting in their games. After playing this game halfway through I turned it off because I felt like I was reading a book. I eventually went back and finished the game but my God there's a lot of reading.

you know, i read all the hate, all the backlash about how this sequal is too different and that there are apparently soo many problems with it, but you know what, i had fun playing this game. i go into games fresh, no comparisons to previous games, this game stands out in its own right, and its one of my favorite wii titles, those of you who can't get over the real-time rpg elements can hate, but at the end of the day, i liked it, and i wasn't the only one.

@strongo25 I was a kid then, i didn't know what to expect from those games. I mean, Paper Mario? How was I to know that I'd be playing an RPG? I only played the normal Mario series and I was never introduced to turn-based battles back then. Except FF7, which I never got into.
Oh God, the dialogue RUINED it almost. I mean, in most Mario games the plot is somewhat vague and things didn't need to make sense. Everything was simple, I it shoulda stayed that way.
I loved this game. Gonna get back to it soon, even though I've beat it 100% including Shadoo. Remember using a level up skill trick which made you jump continously on coconuts one of those square shaped ducks would shoot at you. The score you get doubles every time you jump on something without hitting the ground in between of course. A really cheap but effective way.
This game was GREAT, but it wasn't really a great PAPER MARIO. Yeah, it was still an RPG, but not the way the other 2 were. You still got EXP and leveled up, but that was it for me in the whole RPG element thing.
this game is by far the best game ive ever played. the story behind it is amazing and the game is just plain fun. there are some EXTREMELY confusing mazes tho. but other than that its amazing
how is this a port of the older paper marios? a port is when the game is remade for another console to be almost EXACTLY THE SAME, and the slight differences are usally just enhancements. this game has different gameplay, different story and different gimmicks. yet again, IGN fail.
but enough flaming IGN, this is a great game, but i have to say that i did enjoy the other paper marios more. if you enjoyed this game, i would highly suggest getting the original paper mario on the VC.

ok, now i admit that this game was SOMEWHAT ported because the unfinished infomation was pased on to fit the wii's capabilitys. but some of the game was not produced for the GC, and so this part of the game was not ported and done for the wii.
lets just say thats it is half ported and half not, OK.

I mean seriously who the hell did they get to write it, a fucking 5 year old? I wouldn't be so bothered if there was a function to not display any dialog cause thats mainly what kills it for me, that and the fact that only Mairo can go 3D and the annoying switching, they better not kill SMG2, nintendos gotta get its ass out of "new things" and make better games for the wii.

@fearme4iambry I thought this game would be mediocre as well, but I ended up loving it, more than The Thousand-Year Door and almost as much as Paper Mario. This, along with Super Mario Bros. 2, is the most underrated Mario game of all time, and thus one of the most underrated games in general. It's hated for the stupidest of reasons. If people hate it because it's a platformer, they might as well hate the Mario series in general.
i had fun playing this game, and the story developed with much more complexity, and character depth, with some moments being really sad. i couldn't go to far without looking at walkthroughs online, and the game to me 3-5 days to beat overall (i'm an average gamer, and this is as close to an rpg as i have played). highly recommend, maybe not a buy, but one hell of a rental

No it's not. It wasn't that good as a sequel to the old ones, but it's great on its own. And Luigi is a pretty big plot spoiler since he doesn't appear until about 85% of the way through the game.

-2D environments. Easy to navigate and makes backtracking less tedious.
-Going 2D to 3D. I thought that was cool.
-Real Time battles. Even better! I can't stand turn based battles. They slow things down and are downright annoying.
-Constantly flipping between characters in the pause menu. Okay, that's annoying. Like that never happened in the 64 or GC games.
-Wordy as hell. Yes much like it's past games.

I'm sorry but this guy has got to be the dullest and most boring sounding game reviewer ever. He repeats himself too much about the gripes and gets too wordy as he would put it and shows no spirit at all. His reviews nearly put me to sleep. He sounds like a guy who doesn't like his job.

Paper Mario 1 - I got it for my b-day as a kid and I loved it!
Paper Mario TTYD - I saw it on a commercial and got extremely hyped about it and I loved it a lot!
Super Paper Mario - Meh.

@TheKawaiiXatu I'd have to say that this is my least favorite Paper Mario title. It's not a bad game,but I just didn't enjoy it as much. Also,some of the enemies looked like they were drawn at the last second. Don't get me wrong,simplicity is great,but it doesn't look appealing for most of the time. There are moments in the game I absolutely loved,but I can't really see myself playing it again. It's been three years since I've played it.... = / Again,not a bad game.

This game was very beautiful and the story was brilliant but i have to say the battle system was disappointing. I really enjoyed the old battles, they were so creative and fun. Fighting in this game is quite lame. I also didn't like the pixie world or the pixie friends. They weren't as great as the old characters.
Anyway i hope the next paper mario returns to its roots!

I fell in LOVE with the gamecube game - it was amazing but I don't know if I can play this because it isn't turn based and not as RPG orientated :(

see, paper mario: thousand year door was my favorite nintendo game ever... it was witty, had clever puzzles, it varied and it was FUN. but this one... isnt a paper mario game. the point of paper mario is to be an rpg but combining it with Super mario bros is exactly what they DIDNT want to do. wasnt paper mario supposed to be DIFFERENT? by adding platforming, it isnt the same... im very disappointed. its by no means bad but its not AS good.

Gaming fanbases are so idiotic it almost makes me sick. Change is a good thing, if we just keep rehashing the same games over and over again, it gets very boring. Super Paper Mario was a wonderful game all-around.

@PaperMario15 yea but the change was to what they were doing for decades.... as in every mario game (excluding the sports ones). i dont know about you but i likes the rpg elements and the partners... and the characters who weren't polygons. idk, change is good but when you change a major part of the game then well.... its not the same game. i also feel nintendo cheaped out abit with the characters and fast pace levels... just my opinion

@PaperMario15 I didn't dislike the game because it was different, I disliked it because it was a bad game. The 2D/3D manipulation was great and ingenious, but it wasn't really utilized well. I felt like the rest of the game -- the huge RPG portion -- kept getting in the way of what could have been a unique and creative platformer.

This game shows that it is time for Nintendo to start implementing voice acting in their games. After playing this game halfway through I turned it off because I felt like I was reading a book. I eventually went back and finished the game but my God there's a lot of reading.

the game itself is really awesome, its just that most ppl get confused wen they here its paper mario and think they ruined the game, but then u also have to remember the super in the title that gives away that this game will be more based on the super mario series fighting style.

@2chainallboutrs when I look for 'paper mario' it dosent matter if they put super, or sh** paper mario. Paper mario for the last 3 games. Was a turn based battle type game. I don't mind this game itself, but they need to change the name. If they want to make a platformer, name it 'super mario whatever' but not after a rpg series that imo represents a nice rpg from my and everyone childhood.

@MrNitt I disagree. The first was amazing, but I think the Paper Mario series is one of the rare series where the sequel actually matches or even surpasses the first. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door was a masterpiece.

This game is awesome! It was one of the first wii games I've ever played and I liked it. The only thing I hate is how other people say it ruined everything or whatever just because it's DIFFERENT than the previous games.

you know, i read all the hate, all the backlash about how this sequal is too different and that there are apparently soo many problems with it, but you know what, i had fun playing this game. i go into games fresh, no comparisons to previous games, this game stands out in its own right, and its one of my favorite wii titles, those of you who can't get over the real-time rpg elements can hate, but at the end of the day, i liked it, and i wasn't the only one.

@strongo25 I was a kid then, i didn't know what to expect from those games. I mean, Paper Mario? How was I to know that I'd be playing an RPG? I only played the normal Mario series and I was never introduced to turn-based battles back then. Except FF7, which I never got into.

Oh God, the dialogue RUINED it almost. I mean, in most Mario games the plot is somewhat vague and things didn't need to make sense. Everything was simple, I it shoulda stayed that way.

I loved this game. Gonna get back to it soon, even though I've beat it 100% including Shadoo. Remember using a level up skill trick which made you jump continously on coconuts one of those square shaped ducks would shoot at you. The score you get doubles every time you jump on something without hitting the ground in between of course. A really cheap but effective way.

This game was GREAT, but it wasn't really a great PAPER MARIO. Yeah, it was still an RPG, but not the way the other 2 were. You still got EXP and leveled up, but that was it for me in the whole RPG element thing.

how is this a port of the older paper marios? a port is when the game is remade for another console to be almost EXACTLY THE SAME, and the slight differences are usally just enhancements. this game has different gameplay, different story and different gimmicks. yet again, IGN fail.
but enough flaming IGN, this is a great game, but i have to say that i did enjoy the other paper marios more. if you enjoyed this game, i would highly suggest getting the original paper mario on the VC.

@bulby1994 Hate to say it but it's a fail on your part. He said this game was originally supposed to be for Gamecube, but it was ported over to the Wii instead. He didn't say this game is a port of The Thousand Year Door.

but how can a game be a port if it was never actally released before? im sure that paper mario for GC wasn't completed before being moved to the wii. but if that was the case, why didn't they just do a twilight princess thing and release it on both consoles.
what he should have said was "super paper mario was at first developed for the gamecube, but due to the wii's iminate release, production was moved to the wii."

OK. wikipedia says that "Porting, the process of modifying software so as to make it compatible with other operating system and/or hardware architectures"
ok, now i admit that this game was SOMEWHAT ported because the unfinished infomation was pased on to fit the wii's capabilitys. but some of the game was not produced for the GC, and so this part of the game was not ported and done for the wii.
lets just say thats it is half ported and half not, OK.

and i got to say i Love This GAME i feel like the 2d to 3d thing was perfectly well thought in the game design and the pixls for fu to use too but it does suck that mario can only turn into the 3d and no one else
i think this is one of the best mario rpg series becuase of its indivuality and great design

@GuitarT7 -- fucked me out of 50$ actually thinking it was good. It fucking sucks! The dialog kills the entire bloody game! I mean seriously who the hell did they get to write it, a fucking 5 year old? I wouldn't be so bothered if there was a function to not display any dialog cause thats mainly what kills it for me, that and the fact that only Mairo can go 3D and the annoying switching, they better not kill SMG2, nintendos gotta get its ass out of "new things" and make better games for the wii.

@fearme4iambry I thought this game would be mediocre as well, but I ended up loving it, more than The Thousand-Year Door and almost as much as Paper Mario. This, along with Super Mario Bros. 2, is the most underrated Mario game of all time, and thus one of the most underrated games in general. It's hated for the stupidest of reasons. If people hate it because it's a platformer, they might as well hate the Mario series in general.

i had fun playing this game, and the story developed with much more complexity, and character depth, with some moments being really sad. i couldn't go to far without looking at walkthroughs online, and the game to me 3-5 days to beat overall (i'm an average gamer, and this is as close to an rpg as i have played). highly recommend, maybe not a buy, but one hell of a rental

No it's not. It wasn't that good as a sequel to the old ones, but it's great on its own. And Luigi is a pretty big plot spoiler since he doesn't appear until about 85% of the way through the game.
