  • Many Taiwanese people lack education. They don't know respect. Just look at how they fight in their parliement when they disagree with each other. What a shame. This video is just another example of that. And just look how they drive on the street with their scooters. Many of them drive completely carelessly, turning right in front of you without ever using the mirrors or checking the dead angle...

  • F**K the Communist Chinese

  • Comment removed

  • Fuck chink, die china

  • the protesters did not behave properly

    ...but just think about it!

how stupid must one be to pop up in a crowd of pro-taiwan activists to let the whole world know how strongly he supports china?! i wouldn't run into a crowd of KMTs with my Green Flag and scream "挖係台灣郎!" either....ich liebe mein leben

  • taiwanese are such low class people-violent, vulgar, hot temper and difficult to deal with. So if you are planning to travel to Taiwan, these ppl are the ones you need to be concerned of when comes to safety.

  • Are you kidding me? This arrogant 'envoy from China' had no business at all walking around in public.

It's a very serious situation between Taiwan and China and he was clearly wanting to make a statement (not the one he got) by being there. EVERYTHING on this man's itinerary in Taiwan was strategically planed by the CCP for effect.

As for the 'attack' by some old business man in a tie who merely shoved him and an old women, I think he's lucky he didn't get worse.

    CHIO TAIWAN!

  • do ppl really have to do that to an old man?!!!! not necessary at all !

  • to me thats how freedom of expression and democracy, made many of them people more like barbarians. Wild like a monkey that can roam wherever it wants, lost of morals and become retarded. YEP thats Democracy.

  • @blipbaii

haha . and free speech.. ;) you musnt be in mainland china.. they got no youtube.

  • Also, some education will prevent individuals from saying things along the lines of "CHINA = DICTATORSHIP/COMMUNIST=BAD" OR "TAIWAN=DEMOCRACY!!!! = GOOD". I rest my case

  • This shows the true anger of Taiwanese. If another country claimed your country as their own how would you feel? The other country being repressive dictatorship China must make it even worse.

Taiwan shouldnt have to justify its independence to China.

Greedy China want to get as much land as they think they can..Taiwan, the gem that it is, would be a superb little freebie for China.

    TAIWAN=DEMOCRACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think this video speaks for itself. The Chinese envoy Mr. Zhang acted with class and didn't retaliate or even make threats after the Taiwanese protesters jostled him around and pushed him into the ground and them jumping his car as he tried to leave. What do you think?

  • There always violence movement toward other peoples. Even though we here seeing Taiwan doing something to a Chinese envoy violently there been violent attack everywhere. Tibet protest, Myanmar protest, Thailand protest, etc. I just rather hope that there should be a discussion or just yelling. He is an old man. Hes a Chinese old man who is doing his job, do we got anything against that to beat someone? Well most peoples in the world do that anyway I got no argument about this.

  • hahahahha I can't help but laugh when that man fell! LOL reckless, unnecessary act by the protesters, but it is definitely making a statement: mind your own business China

  • china is china

    taiwan is taiwan

if they have different name ,then they are different. period.

  • all pro-independence people in taiwan are thugs

  • I don't even think people in Taiwan are patriotic. They just say that when the unification issue comes up. People are always trying to find a way out of Taiwan. The education sucks, money is always missing, and westerners are worshiped. I've been there. This video is not an accurate depiction of Taiwan. It simply makes Taiwanese people and people of Taiwanese descent look worse than the impression previously made on me. I am embarrassed.

  • let me enlighten you mainlanders,

we (taiwanese) made your china what it is today, since 1984 our taiwanese businessman have invested over 100 billion u.s.d. by way of factories and cold hard currency, if it weren't for our money, you would still be wearing mao suits and riding bicycles, as for this envoy zhang, who cares about a old communist cadre, no one in taiwan is interested in reunifying with the mainland,

    don't confuse economic cooperation with

    reunification,

  • long live taiwan as part of China. Long live China.

  • No way, Taiwan is what china is supposed to be, they should be totally independent and have free press and democracy, never should they fall to that toxic waste land oppressor china

  • to freddigler: long live taiwan forever as part of China. Long live China.

  • No its not, nor is tibet, just like Ukraine is no longer part of the soviet union, you are living in the past

  • Eukraine is independent and is actively enrolling in UN. taiwan is part of China and 170 nations acknowledge taiwan as part of China. even taiwan's boss take taiwan out of United Nation in 1970s to do business with China and recognizing taiwan is part of China and both China and USA aren't allowing taiwan to join the UN. taiwan has two choices: unify or war!

  • pleasantlysuprising,

I was disappointed that, when confronted by pro-independent people in Taiwan, the Chinese envoy did not fight back, and say "Taiwan is part of China" like they always do in the mainland China.

  • the dpp is so unprofessional, violent, and detrimental to society.

  • That person got punished for his acts. Trying to just single out the DPP is no use. KMT supporters have done similar things to pan-green people.

  • I hope some people in taiwan learn to get along better...

Long live taiwan and China as one united China.

  • That guy was attacked because he was a Chinese envoy, an official of the Chinese gov't and a Chinese communist. Would they do this to Chinese tourists in Taiwan? No. Wanna blame somebody? Think about what Chiang Kai-shak would do if he sees a Chinese communist in Taiwan.

  • taiwan looks bad diplomatically when allowing dpp members to attack another country's envoy.

  • Yes, it looks bad. I don't agree with it. Things like this do happen around the world, not just Taiwan. That guy happened to be a "Chinese envoy", and he represented PRC, Taiwan's only enemy.

  • there is only one solution for the 23 million traitors in taiwan: unify or war will destroy u all.

  • Don't be fool by the PRC. The PLA cannot take over Taiwan. If they can, they would have done it long time ago. The PLA is corrupted, and is much better at operating commerical shipping and banking business than fighting a real war. Just like Chiang Kai-shak's army didn't have the ability to take over mainland China despite he claimed that he could.

  • u r spoiled by your own political boss the USA. that is why u still can bark like now.

  • long live taiwan and China as one indivisible nation. Long live China.

  • Long live taiwan as part of China.

  • your political boss, USA, doesn't even let u join the UN. so stop bullshitting. taiwan is forever part of China.

  • Yes as is EUROPE and we will continue to dominate the world, if China does not want to play game we will drop them and go to India, better workers and just as many labourers

  • europe go to india alone? i doubt if u greedy people will leave China voluntarily to lose out on a big market like China.

  • In the video,no one attacked the Chinese guy, he fell by himself clearly.

  • I don't believe one video will give you the the entire dynamic to the society of Taiwan, especially from acts of politicians. Not everyone agrees with what Wang, Ding-Yu did and that's why we have comments about it.

There is no excuse for this violent behavior and that's the end of it. This should not draw any conclusion about how other Taiwanese will behave. That's a generalization.

The election of President Ma pretty much says everything about how "majority" of Taiwanese think about DDP.

  • Had the protesters not been there chasing him around, the Chinese envoy would not have been on the ground. His falling on the ground was directly caused by the protesters. The "tripping" explanation provided by the aggressors is really ignoring the fact (and irresponsible) and insulting other people's intelligence.

The next question is "was the attack justified?" In a civilized society, the answer is most likely to be "no".

  • the main thing is,he should not be in Taiwan .

if he is not in Taiwan, then he would not fall or trip or push or what ever, on the Taiwanese ground.lol

  • Wasn't he invited by Taiwanese government? Criminals all have their reasons/motivations for their conducts (anger, greed, lust, etc.), but the underlying motivation does not make their outward conducts justified.

With regards to the love of "Taiwanese ground/soil", please entertain me with your rationale for the tens of thousands of Taiwanese doing business in China. Should they be there in the first place?

  • haha...yes, Taiwan is the place where vilence is greatly encouraged, that is what I learned from you guys' comments. Do you know what is right or what is wrong? Do you have basic humanity? Should we attack all the Taiwanese in China because they should NOT be there? Should we drop a nuclear bomb because of this attack? This kind of comment only proves Taiwan is uncivilized society.

  • I don't agree with this harassment of the Mainland official. It doesn't help Taiwan's cause at all and it would've been better if he had been treated more hospitably. However, being Taiwanese, I do understand why this happened. Walking around in Tainan, a DPP stronghold, would probably not sit well with its residents since China has pointed around 1000+ missiles at Taiwan, threatened to retake it by force, and has constantly attempted to isolate Taiwan.

  • One important detail that's missing from most of the "reporting" on this incident is that on the same morning, on Taiwanese soil, ARATS vice-chairman Zhang basically threatened Taiwan with war for the umpteenth time by saying that "there will never be war in the Strait if there is no Taiwan independence." What he means is, "If you commit suicide, we won't murder you."

  • Rewatch it closely. He did trip. LOL. I rewatched and it looked like several people pushed him down, one of them probably an accident.

Well, no one is arresting chinese beating up Taiwanese in China for showing their flag.

  • oh..look at your logic...Do you know which guy was pushing him? Wang ding-yu! F**king hell, he is the city councilor of DPP. Does that look like the guy who had good education and been at that position should do? Look at video, everybody was watching but nobody helped. Thanks. That really let me understand better about Taiwan.

  • This is awful, don't they have police in Taiwan to break up angry racist mobs? This is obviously an hate attack based on the envoy's race. They should all be charged and arrested.

  • Taiwan's politics has in effect become a racial politics. *IF* Taiwan police decided to take an action and arrest these people, DPP will use that as "mainlander again beating Taiwanese down." and portrait it as some sort of political crack down.

  • The KMT is blaming the DPP for pushing the envoy down when he obviously tripped over a tree trunk.

  • Yes is that why at 9 sec, he is seen pushing him down and yelling Taiwan is independent? Tripping my ass.

  • Neither China nor Taiwan attended the conference in San Francisco. Thus, whatever treaty being signed in 1952 was NOT recognized by neither People's Republic of China nor Republic of China.

  • Can we get any acknowledgment of historical reality from AP? In 1949 Taiwan was not part of China, but its sovereignty belonged to Japan, as it had since 1895, and would until April of 1952 when the San Francisco Peace Treaty went into effect. That the status of Taiwan is undetermined remains the policy of the US and other Powers to this day.

Taiwan and China didn't "split" because Taiwan never belonged to China, and certainly not in 1949.

    Michael

  • how about before 1895, who did it belong to?

  • The difficulty is that *IF* the authority took action and actually trying to protect the old man, most of Taiwanese people will view that as "KMT being a guard dog of Communist China and once again attacking innocent Taiwanese."

There are a lot of local Taiwanese felt that the attack was justified simply because he is a mainland Chinese officials.

It's like lynching black is justified just because his skin is black. This is a full blown racial politics here. Welcome to Democracy!

  • All I saw from these people was FEAR. Fear. Attacking an old man will not prove any cause. Regardless whether Taiwan belongs to China or not, these people have just shown to the whole world who is on the right side of the history and who is not.

  • He was being yelled at, not being attacked...

  • no he was being pushed and assaulted and if they there was a mob like that in America, they would all get fucking arrested.

  • Why does AP continue to say this:

    - - -

Taiwan and China split in 1949

    - - -

... even though it's not true? Can you tell us, Peter Enav?

  • Republic of China and People's Republic of China split in 1949.

I agree with you that China and Taiwan split an eon ago... split by a body of water called "Taiwan Strait"

If you want to be accurate, please drop the word "Taiwan" and use the proper, formal name "Republic of China."

  • fuck these stupid taiwanese ppl !

  • Well fuck you too, who ever u fucking are. China was once a supporter (and still is) of the Khmer Rouge regime (Killing Field in Cambodia, remember asshole?); they were providing the killing machines and ideology to rid of these innocent Cambodians just because of the Communism. I have no hatred toward these mainland Chinese, however I do have hatred and vengeance against those ASSHOLE COMMUNIST LAWMAKERS in CHINA. Ass-hole-communists.

  • This is how PLA, PSB, Red guard treats innocent people specially minorities.

Now PRC leaders got small taste of what it treat it people.

Good for Taiwanese people. Overseas Chinese should kick the Chinese Communist leaders like this when they come abroad so that they will realize and treat the people with some dignity.

I wish Hu Jintao is given such a trashing when is abroad.

  • taiwanese attacking an aged diplomat.

if you taiwanese want war, china will give you war!!!

  • Get the fact straight.

the aged diplomat is not even on a diplomatic mission when he was being assaulted. He was on a personal break from an academic conference.

he was assaulted because he works for the Foreign Affair office in mainland China and, let's be honest, he is old and by himself and it's an easy target for 4-5 people gang up on him.

Taiwanese will *NEVER* pick a fight when he has a decent chance of loosing.

  • Oh yes and I suppose you will tell me that you can't find a video on youtube where you can witness numerous P.R.C Chinese attacking one Taiwanese national for unfurling the R.O.C flag. I have spent a couple of years in China and I have first hand experience of several Chinese ganging up on me rather than engage in a fair fight. Even then one of them pulled a knife on me despite the fact I was fighting with my fists. I also know numerous other people who have had the same thing happen to them.

  • off course. and they targeted you because you was what? a nz official?

  • The whole point I was making is that any accusations barbarity on the part of the Taiwanese is a complete joke and any pro P.R.C person posting on this has no right to take the moral high ground in light on what goes on in the P.R.C. The issue of me be attacked by multiple Chinese assailants one of whom had a knife was in response to Kngharv he made the statement that "Taiwanese will never pick a fight that they have a decent chance of losing.

  • the differences is that whoever your friend waving a flag, he/she is engaging a political statement. The fact is that during at the time he was being assaulted, he was *NOT* making any political statement whatsoever. Only "sin" he committed was that he is from mainland.

Your personal experience is very tragic. But use that as a sort of justification for assaulting an old man who is on a leisure tour of Tainan's historical site is unreasonable to say the least.

  • Everything is political when it comes to Taiwan. Can you guarantee that the old man wasn't on one level or another testing the waters by venturing into pan green heartland territory. If the visit had passed without incident it may well have been seized upon by CCTV/Xinhua of a yearning by the people of Tainan to be "brought back into the embrace of the Chinese Motherland". Isn't it the case that whenever the

  • there is a sporting match between athletes from the P.R.C. and Taiwan it isn't simply a sporting match. As CCTV and Xinhua simply can't resist the temptation to take a political cheap shot by slipping in the phrase "Taiwan compatriot/s" thus mixing politics and sport. Likewise whenever a person from Taiwan partakes in a religous/cultural even in the P.R.C. the state media will sniff him out and use the "common cultural links between Taiwan and China to emphasise they are we are all one China"

  • Does that make the attack right?

  • Hardly call it an attack. As there was no actual footage of the Chinese official actually being punched or kicked. For all we know he could have got distracted and tripped over or maybe he took a dive for the sake of the melodramatic. Anyway there was no skull fractures, broken nose or jaw. So I think a far more appropriate word for what happened would be "scuffle" not attack.

  • It should really be called an assault because it was matter of fact an assault of a foreign missionary

  • do i see sarcasm?

  • 尔等已经这般狗急跳墙了。。。

  • All I can say is "GOOD JOB MATES"

  • You can also compare it to the Taiwanese legislature, where fist fights and throwing chairs at each other is a common occurence.

  • Well at least the Taiwanese have a real legislature where different opinions are voiced. As opposed to the complete and utter joke that is the P.R.C's so called People's Congress where everyone does the old smile nod and clap on cue.

  • I suppose that the "democratic" Taiwan should also pride itself in producing Chen Shui Bian, previous President of Taiwan also known more recently as the infamous embezzler/money-launderer of all time.

Taiwan may operate under the facade of a democracy, but the core of its politics/government is rotten and corrupt as hell and run by a bunch of uneducated thugs who voice "different opinions" in legislature using fists and chair-throwing.

  • Like I said would you rather have over animated debate or a complete debacle that is the P.R.C's people's congress. I mean why even bother having real people sitting there as they don't get to criticise or say anything at all. Why do just have manequins with smiling faces rigged to nod and clap. In regards to thuggery which country leads the world in the number of executions?

I would much rather be punched or have a chair thrown at me than have my organs harvested for voicing dissent.

  • Just to be clear, my original point is not that China's system of governance is superior to that of Taiwan's nor do I necessarily agree with that claim anyway. In the context of this video, I am noticing that this sort of "scuffle", is not uncommon to the Taiwanese spirit. To get technical, the envoy was pushed over (0:08)(people don't fall backwards themselves) and dragged on the ground (0:13). Lose your bias and watch the clip carefully. Notice the fists hitting him on the back (0:38).

  • It's easy for anti-CCPs to divert the attention to China's authoritarianism/human rights offenses during discussions, but it's counterproductive. Democracy is great when it is functional, but given China's myriad of social/economic/demographic challenges it faces, establishing a democracy within the next decade(s) is likely out of the question without destabilizing the country and global economic system.

  • simply barbaric. How is pushing an old man down and surrounding him thrashing out at him an act of "defending your country"? it more so makes Taiwanese people look crazy and idiotic.

TheFoxNewsChannel, do u know anything at all? How do u stage this kind of thing? This stuff is being reported in Taiwan, China, and around the world, i assure u, these tai-nan crazies with their erratic screaming behavior is rather typical and distinct only to Taiwan.

  • chinese/CCP officials deserves nothing more than this.

good for the taiwanese. so brave.

you better defend your country before it is too late, like Tibetans.

wake up all the Taiwanese like the taiwanese in Tainan.I am so proud to be a Taiwanese.

  • Isn't that just 'cultural' for Taiwan? You know, like the haka in New Zealand. I think they were just greeting him - they didn't treat him to a full headlock and flying furniture. Elton John didn't understand either, when he visited Taiwan.

  • Staged ,china does shit like this all the time

  • It is amazing that we Taiwanese can defend this barbaric act. Watching this vid, I can only say I'm ashamed to be a Taiwanese, born and raised in Tainan, the city where the incident took place.
