I was in fourth grade when this show aired and started watching it about halfway through its run. Something about Judy's accent and the fact that her voice reminded me a lot of Julie Andrews, whom most of us who were around then saw her in Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music. Then when ABC reran the episodes during the summer of 1971, I had a chance to watch the early ones. I had no idea that was Rich Little playing Stan Parker.
Its a shame the male lead (Peter Duel) went onto suicide while filming his next show (alias Smith and Jones, which I loved as a kid) and the female lead became addicted to herion (although she is still alive after that, and being married to Burt Reynolds). Rich Little was turned out to be the standout among the cast, this was his first big break.
I was just nine or ten years old when this show came on the air. I loved it then and I love it now. The theme song--the original one, heard here--is sublime, romantic and thrilling. I never thought I'd see this show or hear this song again. Thank you so much.
Amazon has put a placeholder up on their site where you can sign up to be notified by e-mail whenever a DVD release of "Love on a Rooftop" becomes available.....
Incidentally, that's Mundell Lowe himself playing lead guitar during the extended closing credits- in fact, he's right out in front of the orchestra, due to Fred J. Brown's soundtrack mixing...
This was filmed around December 1965, when Peter Duel was still appearing on "GIDGET", and Judy had just filmed her guest appearance in the "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" episode, "Is There An Extra Genie In the House?" [1/22/66]. Mundell Lowe's original theme and score was replaced by a different one in the regular series.
