a hymn written by a Roman Catholic (granted, he was born an Anglican, but he converted), being called a C of E processional hymn. Whilst it is without question a Roman Catholic hymn by origin, it's great to see some unity amongst the churches for a change! Blesséd Cardinal John Henry Newman. What a man!
@Nimo753 Thats w/ ALL Ebangelical/Pentacostal Churches! Thats ! reason out of a million why I CONERTED over to the Catholic Church! Its TRUE in Faith and twas the FIRST Christian Church!
@gfsquire Presbyterians, Methodists, Lutherans, Reformed.... almost all traditional Protestant denominations affirm faith in the catholic (one universal) faith. The CofE is a historically Protestant church. Remember Cranmer, Ridley, Hooper, & Latimer. Remember Ussher, Tillotson, Toplady, & Ryle. Remember that her majesty swore to uphold the "Protestant & Reformed" religion. Remember these things!
@timothyj1966 I was speaking of the affirmation of the 'catholic' church as found in the Apostles' Creed or the Nicene Creed. I was not speaking of the "Roman Catholic Church". It is a deviation from historical Protestant faith to deny the one universal church which binds all Christians together. I do not know any major Reformer or any major Protestant theologian that denies faith in the universal catholic church.
Speak Up folks - Anglican in my country started to sway a little bit - i finally realised that we are influenced by 1.the Pentecostal movement 2.Mormonism.
they are well trained to preach against our doctrines , structures and form of worship............young groups are notified that these two congregations only want money and members , and not your solus ....i have wrote articles on how to stand agaisnt these witches.
@rodguy Bravo! Bravo! well said! amen. unfortunately where i live there ain't no church of england, so i have to make do with baptist/presbyterian. Fortunately, the congregation is receptive to anglican hymns (as they are classically oriented).
God loves you. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for your sins, was buried and rose again so that all who believe on Him will not perish, but have everlasting life in Heaven.
John 3:15. That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
@john2000young as fr. Mario from QUÉBEC, i could write bro. your remarks is very unpolite. Read the encyclical letter wrote by my late Master of Theology +fr. Tillard, o.p. and signed by the bishop of Rome, bx. John-Paul II, Ut Unum Sint ! For your penitence: 100 Pater, 3 Ave, 1 Glory XOX
Great song. Praise to thy Holiest in thy Heighst is a good Anglican song. The Roman Catholic church also uses this hymnal as well. God is real and if you don't think so, you will be punished. But if you believe, well there will be many good yhings in store for YOU.
The exhaultation of God through hymns is something very Anglican and makes me very proud to be Anglican. Every week I go the church and hear the choir with the organs at full blast makes me choke up every time and feel a sense of peace, if that effect was something the church of England wanted to achieve then they have certainly achieved it with me. Keep them coming!
@NiklasH The title is Praise to the Holiest in the Height: Praise to the Holiest in the height, and in the depth be praise; in all his words most wonderful, most sure in all his ways! O loving wisdom of our God! When all was sin and shame, a second Adam to the fight and to the rescue came. O wisest love! that flesh and blood, which did in Adam fail, should strive afresh against the foe, should strive, and should prevail;

Episcopalians know this tune as "Newman" (by Richard Runciman Terry, 1912) - "Praise to the Holiest in the height".

The Church of England is not a protestant denomination. In our creed at mass we say that we are a Catholic church.

@harpsichordkid wrong - a lot of Protestants do not support or agree with the corruption in the Catholic church.

priereanotredame 8 months ago
@priereanotredame It is 'Praise to the Holiest in the height' sung to the tune 'Billing' by R.R. Terry. One of my favorite tunes.
